Work Text:
Jimmy had noticed an increase of flowers around the house, from paper ones, to fake ones, to metal ones. Everywhere he looked there was some kind of fake flower..
One day, after getting home from work early, he stumbled in on Scott teaching Looney how to make paper flowers, a few sat to the side, one was behind Looney's ear, and there was one behind Scott's as well the paper for the flowers was the same soft shade of pink that Scott decided to wear.
In the background he could just barely hear Taylor swift, paper rings Scott sat mermaid, while Looney sat criss cross.
"Look dear, you fold it in half, unfold it, fold the halves in half…"
Scott's hands moved fast with practice. Skill apparent. And jimmy watch from the corner as Looney was concentrated, so focused on doing it right. "Like this papa..?"
"Yeah, just like that!! Then you make it pointy at the ends, make sure you do both ends!!"
It was slow, and soft, and quiet, and still. Neither of them had noticed jimmy. And they continued, and jimmy smiled as Looney made a few mistakes, and Scott helped her fix them. And by the end, Looney's we're a bit wonky, but both of theirs were perfect all the same. When Scott closed his eyes and hummed to the musi he decided to make himself present.
He leaned on the corner, making sure the floor boards creaked a little. "Hey you two, I can assume you're the ones making these flowers?"
Looney shot up with stars in her eyes, and tried to get up as quick as she could, while Scott only opened one eye, and his smile grew bigger.
Soon jimmy was picking up the run ing Looney, and kissing her face all over as she laughed. And he held her on his hip. "Mommy!! Papa was teaching me how to make flowers, aren't they pretty?!"
And it was Jimmy's turn to laugh as Looney grapped both his cheeks, slightly smushing them together, and looking his in the eyes, her own wide.
"Yeah they sure are sugar plum!! So pretty, I can only assume you made all them, their so pretty!!"
Scott started to pickup their mess, dropping all but one flower on the coffee table. He walked up to jimmy and moved some hair from his ear, kissed right under it, and tucked the flower he was holding back there. Jimmy turned to Looney as she state there just kicking her feet lightly.
"Hey sugar plum, why don't you go pick up your mess a bit, and help papa out?" He slowly put Looney back on the ground, and watched as she giggled and nodded, ready to go. Once he got back up Scott was still close he gently put both of his hands on Scott's cheeks, and Scott laid his hands on top.
After leaned away from a soft short kiss, they didn't go far, still in each other's space. "I missed you" and it wasn't quite so that it was a secret, no, it was quite cuz it was true, open, and everything that jimmy is. And Scott copied. "I missed you too, so much. How was work?"
Jimmy's soft smile and gentle love was all Scott will ever need. "Good, grian totally exploded that library down the road, won't admit to it tho. how was your day at work?" "Nothing out of the ordinary, and I can promise that he did."
They swayed gently to the music barely able to be heard. Jimmy's breath tickling Scott's nose. "So why have you been making these flowers? not that I'm complaining, just a little curious."
Scott breathing was steady, and his eyes slip shut. Jimmy allowed himself to lean forward just enough for their foreheads to touch. "A good friend of mine used to love flowers, but he hated how they would wilt up. So I learned how to make these." Jimmy let his own eyes slip shut. "Owen?" And Scott's breath didn't Hitch ,and he didn't panic, it was just acceptance."yeah, Owen."
Owen was Scott's business partner at the start of the thrift store, about three years ago he tragically passed away due to sickness, Scott has a tattoo on the base of his neck of a little orange. Jimmy was with him as he got it, Scott cried the entire time. And now, maybe it was a bit of grief, maybe it was an old habit, or maybe Scott wanted to teach Looney how to make them, and let Owen live on a little more.
But the number of paper flowers grew, and so did their beauty, and the small family's love for them.
