The sun had just barely started to lift above the horizon, which left most of Kyoshi and Rangi's camp in shadow. Her skin prickled beneath her shift; fists on her hips she glared at the platypus bear. With it stood on its hind legs, they were almost of a height, with it being slightly taller. "I won't have you waking up Rangi. Go. Away."
A sort of low growling hiss left the platypus bear's bill, and she responded, by punching it in the stomach. The platypus bear dropped to all fours, turned and lumbered off into the forest. With a shake of the head, she spun on her heel then ducked back into the tent. Rangi lay sleeping in their two-person lion bearskin bedroll, which had been a gift from the Earth King. She crawled back into the bedroll, instinctively, Rangi rolled over to snuggle against her.
"Mm, Kyoshi?" Rangi yawned. "I thought I heard something."
"It was nothing, Rangi, just go back to sleep."
"Okay."
Kyoshi pressed a kiss against Rangi's hair then closed her eyes. They'd be leaving for Omashu tomorrow, so she could bless Lady Xui Li's bear sanctuary. It was nice to get away from Avatar duties, if only for a while.
