When Gin first sought out the current Kenpachi, it was because he was the only captain that didn’t look at him with any motive or real emotion behind his eyes.
Head Captain Yamamoto had looked at him as if he were nothing but the person to replace his predecessor. A pawn to his world that would not last long, only there to serve a singular purpose or task.
Captain Unohana had looked at him as if she knew all of his secrets and was prepared to stop the plans he had worked so hard on.
Aizen had that look that told him that the man was going to make sure his plans for Soul Society would work, and that he was going to take every advantage he could out of Gin being a captain now.
Tosen looked at him as though he were just scum under his feet. Though, perhaps ‘looked’ wasn’t the best way to put it. He couldn’t read Tosen’s eyes, for they were both blind and hidden, but he could read his facial expressions and they said everything.
Captain Kurotsuchi had looked at him as if he wanted to dissect him and find out how he was able to become a captain so young.
Captain Ukitake had looked at him with so many different emotions in his eyes that Gin almost went into a coughing fit of his own when he looked at him.
Only Kenpachi Zaraki gave him a blank stare, as if he didn’t care whether or not he was the new captain of the third. Which, in all fairness, isn't all that unexpected considering the man is a Kenpachi . Despite this, it was still completely different compared to the other captains.
This, of course, made him determined to find out why Kenpachi didn’t seem to care. Which led to him visiting the man in his barracks mere hours later, and then sparring with him.
For the next good while, his curiosity was the only thing driving him to find out just why this man had nothing behind his eyes as he looked at him. He brought candy for the pink-haired lieutenant, Yachiru, and sparred with Kenpachi hoping he would find his answer. So far he hadn’t, but Gin wasn’t about to give up.
-
Soon his visits became about more than just his curiosity. He still didn’t know why Kenpachi had had nothing behind his eyes that day, but as time went on, he felt like he needed to know that information less and less.
Instead, now he came by because he was genuinely enjoying the atmosphere of the 11th. Despite their roughness, they are quite possibly the most honest squad out there. For most, that would put them off because the squad's honesty is most often found in their bluntness, but for him, it was a great match with his personality.
It meant he could joke around with them without any of them trying to find a motive, and without him having to look in someone's eyes to know how they feel about him. He had already been told by no less than twenty of the 11th’s officers that they thought he was a ‘creepy looking bastard’ and more and more came up to him each visit. This was a stark contrast in comparison to his own squad that clearly found him creepy, and whispered about him from afar, but just wouldn’t tell him directly.
-
In the time that Gin had come to know Kenpachi, he had learned a very important lesson. Despite his eyes only ever showing a desire to fight—when they ever showed anything, the man was surprisingly observant.
Now, Kenpachi being observant during a fight made sense. There is a reason that Kenpachi is named… well… Kenpachi. However, it certainly surprised him that the man could so easily figure out that Gin is… attracted to Rangiku. What surprised him even further, though, was how the captain of the 11th had only kept his teasing of Gin to private areas.
Gin would have most certainly expected his attraction to be outed to the Seireitei, and yet, that hadn’t been what happened. Now, if that would have been what happened, Gin wouldn’t have thought it were malicious, but rather a lack of understanding the manners behind details like that.
-
Gin had ignored every attempt that Kenpachi had made to make him confess to Rangiku.
Even if Rangiku liked him back like Kenpachi claimed, he just knew that being with her would hurt her more in the long run.
Gin didn’t really think Rangiku liked him back, however, seeing as the way she looked at him has been the same for the whole time they had known each other, ever since they were kids, and he doubted that, as a child, she had ever looked at him with anything other than friendship.
-
He didn’t know how Kenpachi had seen it before him, but now he knew the man had been right about Rangiku. Gin just wished he hadn’t had to pretend he didn’t understand what Rangiku had whispered under her breath.
He wished he just didn’t have as much blood staining his hands.
-
When Aizen had ordered the death of Kaien, Gin had nearly decided to finish his plan early but he decided against it. He didn’t think his bankai was quite strong enough yet to kill Aizen.
He did hate having to watch as Aizen controlled central 46 to push for the disgrace of the Shibas.
-
Aizen’s plans had been slow going for a few decades, but now they were slowly ramping up. Gin knew that his time was now far more limited than it had once been. Between Aizen’s plans and his ever-growing anxiety, Gin found himself at the eleventh less and less.
He truly felt bad for the Shibas as they lost another great member due to Aizen. Fortunately, though, this one was still alive.
-
Gin had thought he could stomach all of Aizen’s experiments, afterall, he had seen all of them for nearly a century now, but apparently, he couldn’t. He’s glad he has learned to hide all of his emotions.
-
He couldn’t say he felt bad for central 46, but what he could say is that he wished that his hands weren’t stained so god damned red. Even though others couldn’t see it, he could.
Gin wished he could save poor little Rukia Kuchiki, but unfortunately, he could tell that Aizen was always watching.
-
When he had gone with Kenpachi to talk with Captain Kuchiki, he had expected the man to want to fight against the order of execution. It would make sense, afterall, Rukia is Captain Kuchiki’s sister. However, it seems as though the man will not fight the order. Gin had to admit, he was pissed at how unloyal Kuchiki was to his own family, family that he had chosen , not even just been born into.
He apparently was not the only one upset about that. He had to drag Kenpachi away.
Gin couldn’t keep up his smile during the subsequent fight. He knew that this was probably the last spar they would ever have together. If they were to ever fight again, it would likely be at opposite ends of the battlefields as Gin tried to keep up his charades.
-
A few hours after the discovery of ‘Aizens death’ he almost cried. He could see how Rangiku suspected him.
-
When the time to go was upon him, all Gin could do was tell Rangiku that he would miss her. The look in her eyes told him everything. He wished he could have said a goodbye to the many others he had grown close to over the years.
