The dialogue on the TV slowly faded back into focus, the sounds morphing back into perceivable words as George came to consciousness. He also heard his name mentioned by a voice he wasn't quite awake enough to determine who it belonged to.
"George- wait, is he still asleep?" It was Karl. Dream, whose shoulder George's head was still resting on, hummed in response. The noise rumbled through the former's chest and sent satisfying shivers down his spine.
"Yeah, he'll sleep through everything," Dream chuckled fondly, George having to fight the urge to go back to sleep as the former's hands began to gently comb through his hair. "He's so cute."
"You're fucking whipped," Sapnap teased from across the couch, his tone good-natured. George heard Dream's characteristic scoff, hoping the smile that was starting to tug at the corners of his lips wasn't blowing his cover.
"Why wouldn't I be? Have you met George?" Dream replied rhetorically, his voice sickeningly sweet and warm.
"Get married already," Karl chimed in with a chuckle, Dream chucking softly shortly after.
"That's the plan," He murmured softly, lovingly continuing to mess with George's hair. George did his best to remain still without becoming stiff; There was no way he was going back to sleep now.
"I bought a ring two weeks after he moved in," Dream continued, exhaling as he let his hand rest on George's right shoulder. "I've just been waiting for a time where we can both spend a whole day together."
"You'd propose to George without me there?" Sapnap gasped, Dream immediately shushing and quietly scolding him for his volume.
"I didn't say you weren't invited, dumbass," Dream chuckled, his hand resumed sifting through George's hair. "You're my best friend; of course I want you there."
"What are you waiting for?" Karl asked, the question both genuine and rhetorical. George felt Dream shrug.
"I don't know, it just hasn't felt... right yet," Dream replied. "I want it to be absolutely perfect."
"He deserves the best," Dream concluded, loud enough for George to hear easily but quiet enough to sound like a doting murmur to everyone else.
"Ew, gross," Karl and Sapnap chided jokingly, stifling loud chuckles semi-unsuccessfully as Dream shushed and scolded them again. George fought down another smile when Dream told them they were both lucky that George was a heavy sleeper.
"You guys are gonna be the cutest old couple," Karl commented, Sapnap humming an agreement. George felt Dream nod, along with feeling himself slowly being pulled closer and closer to sleep.
"I can't wait," Dream murmured, placing a silent kiss to the top of George's head. George let his body relax again, Dream pulling him closer with the arm that rested on his shoulder.
George drifted back to sleep with a small smile on his face, unsure of how he would hide his knowledge of the conversation that had taken place. He settled on it being a cute surprise wedding-toast story before letting sleep take hold.
