“These are clementines.” The boy points up at the oranges hanging from the branches above them.
Dream looks up. “I thought they were oranges.”
“Well…” The boy stands up, he walks until he is standing right in front of Dream. He reaches up and grabs a fruit before sitting back down. “Technically, they are. They are a type of orange, a mix of sweet oranges and mandarin oranges. They’re smaller than regular oranges, smoother skin too.”
The boy holds the clementine out to Dream. He lets the boy drop it into his hand.

George leaned back into the couch to admire Clay’s tanned skin, warm and colorful under the dim, theater spotlight. He ran his hand over the skin, smooth yet strong under the touch while the blond’s mouth was on his collarbone.
Clay smirked and pulled away, his eyes daring and smug. “Like what you see?”
“Fuck off,” George breathed, trying to catch his breath. He tipped his chin upwards. “I hate you.”
Clay leaned down to kiss George’s chest. Kissed down, down further, mouth hot on his pale skin. “I hate you too, baby.”

Dream had a bench right inside the doorway of his third-floor apartment. This, in turn, was another place he had learned how to love him best: by the tips of his fingers and down the inner lining of his arm, where he would touch him, hold him, hug him goodbye, trace the way in and out of his heart, where he would look defeat in the face, shatter everything they’d grown before squishing it back together.
And ever so eagerly, he would learn his name there. George.

Dream had been fifteen when he got his first girlfriend.
He remembers that her hair was long and pretty and red, and that her eyes had sparkled, and that she had just a few more freckles than him. He remembers thinking she was the prettiest girl in the world.
He remembers that the first time he told his dad about her, he'd been lectured for saying he loved her. He'd been told love was something conditional, something you had to earn and certainly not something to give out to the girl you sat next to in chemistry class. He remembers feeling guilty for wanting to say he still did.
Dream was seventeen when he fell for George.

George rubs circles around Dream’s hand with his thumb. “What are you thinking about, love?”
“I’m just thinking about how lucky I am to have you, and how all of this started.”
“So, how did all of this start then?
Dream ponders on the same question.
