A Change in the Weather

Summary:

Emma can't remember why she came to sit in the garden, but she feels better now.

Notes:

Written for both Day 2 Februrary Ficlet Challenge prompts: Caught in the rain *and* Forgotten what we were fighting about.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Emma sat on a bench in the garden, picking apart some clover.  She had decided she needed to carefully pull apart each leaf exactly at the white chevron line near the end. She couldn’t remember what put this idea in her head, but now she wanted to do this to each clover near her bench.

As she was reaching down for another handful of clover, she saw Mr. Knightley walking up from the house.

“Emma, I think it’s going to rain.  I’m sorry about what I said earlier, but I think you should come in.”

Emma realized that she had been angry when she had sat down earlier, but she couldn’t remember why.

“Let’s not worry about that,” she said, deciding against asking what he meant, “but it’s just a few clouds, I don’t think it’s going to rain.”

“The clouds were just on the horizon a few minutes ago, and now it’s completely cloudy. I really do think we should get inside.  Your father will worry.”

Emma stood up at that. “Of course, we should go.”

Just then, the skies opened up, and even though they sprinted to the house, they were still both completely soaked when they finally made it inside.

“You should go change,” Mr. Knightley suggested.

Emma nodded and hurried upstairs, hearing her father scolding Mr. Knightley just before she closed her door.

Notes:

I had a busy day and almost didn't get around to doing this one. I hope you all enjoyed a bit of spontaneous fluff!
