Work Text:

This was definitely fun.

Kinoko Kingdom holding a little gala and inviting the whole server to it as if nothing would ever go wrong.

Quackity was a dangerous man, but when you’re in a room full of murderers and their murderous victims you can’t help but feel a little cowardly from time to time.

Whats worse is that whilst Karl and Sapnap walked around the room, hand in hand, chatting with the attendants as if it was their nations first night alive, Quackity watched them, sitting at a table, tapping his foot infuriatingly against the marble flooring.

He already had to deal with their corny little speeches that they announced to hundreds of world leaders who they practically nuzzled each other in front of. They had declared Kinoko Kingdom a peace zone. No fighting would take place and they would take no part in any battle.

All whilst avoiding Quackity like he had the plague.

He held the stem of a champagne glass gracefully between his fingers despite the rage he felt in his head, why invite him if they were to just ignore him? Maybe it was just so everyone else didn’t think that the friendly little nation of peace had some bad blood.

The champagne tasted like shit anyways. He wanted to go home.

Back to Las Nevadas where the champagne was good and he was in charge, where he was in control of every situation, where he didn’t have to deal with being ignored because whenever he walked into a room in Las Nevadas all eyes turned to him. Nobody cared what has happening before because Quackity had just walked in, Quackity was about to be the one to give the orders, Quackity was the important one.

But now Quackity was just a fly on the wall, that was hidden behind the large gold framed oil painting of Sapnap and Karl.

”Distracted are we?” Quackity could recognize Wilbur’s velvety voice whenever he heard it, it seemed to echo in his mind wherever he went, just like his appearance.

”I brought us some red wine, I could see you practically downing that champagne from across the room.” He said, setting a wine glass on the white silk draped table next to Quackity.

He knew if he turned around he’d see the same damn thing he always saw, the smelly dirty trench coat he’s convinced Wilbur hasn’t taken off since the day he died, the messy brown locks that he just wanted to tug and yank out of his head, eyes the color of spruce that were somehow so dead but also alive at the same time, and that little white streak that fell between those decaying iris’s that framed his face oh so perfectly.

But when he turned he saw a sight that made him think he was dreaming, Wilbur actually cleaned himself up, and he did it well.

A cream colored ruffle undershirt, with a black waistcoat adorned with swirled patterns of a ghostly deep blue on the sides, a sapphire rings sitting perfectly on one of his slender fingers, a standard pair of dress pants and dress shoes, all paired nicely with his brown curly hair still messy with that nice white streak finishing it all off.

”You look better without that fucking trench coat.” He mumbled as he took a sip of the ridiculously bitter wine, seemingly made of mushroom, like most things in Kinoko were.

”And you look gorgeous with that low ponytail.” He said, swirling his own wine glass gently between his fingers and taking a sip, “Tonight’s hosts seem to have you growing a little impatient.”

Quackity immediately disregarded the complement, instead leaping to automatically complain while scanning the crowds for Sapnap and Karl, “They’re pretending I don’t exist, per usual.” Wilbur hummed, setting his wine glass down, digging in his pocket, and taking a ruby ring out of it, slipping it on one of Quackity’s fingers.

”To cheer you up.” He explained, “It goes with your outfit better than mine.” Quackity looked at it for a second, admiring how it sparkled under the mushroom shaped chandeliers on the ceiling before turning to Wilbur and freezing up.

Sapnap and Karl were walking towards the two of them, just a few feet behind Wilbur.

”Wilbur!” Karl called out, drawing Will’s attention away from Quackity, “It’s nice to see you! You’re looking good post revi-“ “I hope you don’t mind but I’m trying to have a bit of a private conversation here Karl.” Wilbur snapped in an oddly calm tone as he picked up his wine glass and dragged Quackity away.

”Post revival!” He grumbled whilst leading Quackity, “Who thinks it’s a good idea to bring up a man’s death as a conversation starter!?” He stopped in a small area surrounded by empty tables draped in silk, Quackity had a dark expression.

”Why are you angry? I know deep down you don’t want to talk to them.” Wilbur huffed, taking another sip of the bitter wine.

”They had wedding bands on.” Quackity was able to spit out in a shaky voice after a beat of silence, “They didn’t have just engagement rings they had wedding bands too! They got married Wilbur! They got married without me!”

Wilbur paused, glancing up and stared at the hosts who stared back at them in a mixture of shock and betrayal, as if they didn’t leave out their third half.

Wilbur sighed, then smirked and looked down at Quackity, stretching his hand out to him.

”Dance with me.”

Quackity stared back up at him in shock, “Excuse me? I just found out my fiancés got married without me and now you want to dance with me!?” Wilbur rolled his eyes and shook his hand a little, signaling for the other man to take it.

”If you dance with me we can make it look like you’ve moved on, you never cared.” He explained, Quackity was a little shocked, but then downed his cup of wine quickly, then snatched Wilburs and drank his even faster.

”How come this one isn’t mushroom wine jackass?” Quackity gave a glare, albeit a friendly one up to Wilbur, who responded with a chuckle “I didn’t want the gross mushroom wine.”

Quackity grinned, roughly setting the glass back down on the table, it tipped over and spilled the little bit of red wine left on the silk, staining it as Quackity took Wilburs hand.

”Alright, ruin my life.” Wilbur gave another little laugh, “Oh if I was to ruin your life I’d take you to dinner first.” Quackity rolled his eyes as Wilbur lead him to the area up front where the majority of the people invited were dancing.

Wilbur swiftly took the lead, hand on hand on waist on shoulder, swaying him gently to piano and violin, picking up the pace as the music became more intense, giving Quackity twirls, leading him around the floor, and dipping him once the song reached its end, Quackity was fighting his urge to kiss Wilbur right there and then, until the next song played.

Significantly slower, they resumed how they were in the beginning with Wilbur gently swaying him as Quackity began to lean into him.

”You’re melting like a candle baby.” he cooed, “Baby?” “Why not call you that?” “I’d much prefer ‘my prince’.” he grinned as Wilbur rolled his eyes playfully “Ok calm down narcissus.”

The two laughed as they continued to dance, Quackity could feel eyes on the back of him but he shuttered the feeling off, instead laying his head against Wilburs chest, feeling the heart thump inside him, beating almost begrudgingly, as if all it really wanted was to stop, he oddly adored how it kept going.

This was normal for rivals right? It’s normal to recognize moments where you should step in right? Quackity seemingly kept jumping from one relationship to the next, and then to the next, and so on.

He wished he could slow dance as Wilbur fake complimented him in the Kinoko Kingdom ballroom forever.
