Work Text:

Eyes. Pretty, blue eyes. In the morning, at moments, Evangeline almost thought she saw them in different shades but of course, being delirious with sleep did not help. Her eyes fluttered shut. The slow rising chest she rested her hand on, thrummed with a heartbeat right there, playing beneath her fingertips. Pure bliss.

When Evangeline’s eyes adjusted again, bright blue eyes shuttered open at her. She smiled, and with slow movement rose her fingers to Jacks’ face. The sharp edges on his mouth softened into something of a smirk. Her fingers lazily traced his cheek, his nose, his lips. For no reason, truly. Evangeline had no reason for doing so but because she wanted to. His arm slung around her waist tightened, pressing her against his chest. Evangeline startled for a moment, pausing. His eyes closed again, and she saw dimples beside his smile. A real smile.

Continue on, Little Fox.

Sunlight snuck in, shades of citrus yellows and oranges winked at the intertwined pair. Evangeline squinted, resting her chin on Jacks’ shoulder. She raised a hand towards a golden strand of hair, and mumbled, “Morning.”

His eyes opened again. And gone was the bright blue, now she saw shades of azure and mischief twinkling. Evangeline drew back to move but his arm left no space for her to make a movement. She settled back against his chest.

Not yet?

He shook his head, a shy smile flashed across his face for a moment.

Not yet.

Evangeline tucked her head in the crook of his neck, closing her eyes. She was not quite ready to meet the day either, not when this was she had now. Her eyes were moments from closing when noises outside arose, soft but not unheard. Bird chirping. The little feathered creatures tweeted and fluffed their wings hidden within the shadowed branches out. Evangeline could see a little past that, her eyes falling on the mountain crest with over half the sun spilling out from the edges and crevices.

The arm that Jacks had slung around her waist loosened, his breaths released in soft sighs. He’d fallen back asleep. Evangeline carefully slipped from his grasp, tip-toeing across on the cold floor. She reached for the doorknob, so close but not close enough. Behind her, Jacks stirred. A low mumble of a word froze her movement. “ Evangeline.. ”

Without realizing, she’d begun to laugh. Her hand cupped her mouth, stifling the amusement as she looked over her shoulder. Still asleep, no stirs. The cold waft of air that whistled past her as she opened the door prompted goosebumps.

Before Evangeline left, she reached for a garment off the ground. A simple white button-up, nothing much but warm enough for her. She slipped it on with a shiver as she looked around every corner of the room for her cloak. It was a good market day today, a nice time to head out for a walk perhaps.

But an even better morning, her thoughts lulled. She shoved them aside, continuing to search.

“Aha,” Evangeline grinned, finding the soft fur cloak tucked beneath a dress of her’s. She rose up, nearly dropping the garment when a stern face glared up at her. Jacks sat up, a frown creased his mouth. “And what is it you think you’re doing?”

“I would think it's rather clear,” she hummed, turning for a moment to pick up the dress. “I’ll be heading to the market.”

From behind her, she heard soft laughter. Evangeline felt her cheeks warm. She spun back around, the dress tucked to her chest. Jacks tilted his head, in almost a mockery of her prior comment. He stood closer, only a few paces of space between them. His brows drew together. Something of a quizzical expression flashed across his face and the warmth left Evangeline, cooling her blood.

I don’t think so.

Evangeline stepped back, raising her head. “Well, what a good thing for you that I’ll go alone.”

Jacks nodded for a moment, his gaze trained on her face but Evangeline felt his hands move towards her own hands. He rose her knuckles to his lips, and brushed a soft kiss on every single one. But his eyes remained on hers, a challenge etched into those wicked irises of his.

Evangeline’s breath caught in her throat as he turned over hand, tracing her pulse with one hand while the other drew towards her hip. He pulled her closer and closer, and closer. Evangeline’s every word seemed to fizzle on her tongue. She should’ve been out the door ages ago but there was no urge to leave now, not as much.

His hands left hers for a brief moment, and rose to the collar of the shirt she’d slipped on. He tugged on it, causing their nose to nearly touch. He murmured, “You weren’t planning to leave in this, were you?”

It is rather comfortable.  Evangeline blushed, gnawing on her bottom lip. His eyes fell there, lingered. The heat in her cheeks flushed, spreading flames across every inch of her lips. He neared, until one swift movement forward would convince her to never leave again.

His mouth brushed hers, in such a ghostly manner, Evangeline almost thought she’d blink and it was the lasting effects of a dream that she hadn’t quite woken up from. However, that was far from true. It was real, and oh so tempting to indulge in.

Stay.

He paused for a moment, leaning in forward towards her cheek. At her ear, his lips spoke one soft little word, while his hands worked their way into her hair. “Please.”

And it only continued so forth, words murmured as his lips traveled down against her neck. She certainly felt them but couldn’t quite hear. Not when every thought seemed overwhelmingly flushed. For the moment, she was absolutely content to never visit the market again. He drew back, a cold rush of air brushed past her skin, eliciting a shiver.

His fingers thoughtfully were playing with the collar of the shirt she wore, brushing against her collarbone, or the sleeve of her nightgown. Evangeline glanced up, the burst of sunlight twinkling into the room and by then, the morning dew was clearing.

She met his gaze, and softly grinned. “I suppose the market can wait for later.”

Much later . He nodded, cupping her face. It was safe to assume that no vendors spotted sight of Evangeline at the market that day. It was a rather good morning, and day.
