Chapter 1: Foul Murder!

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Speared by my closest friend
An untimely, gruesome end
Right through the heart
A kill sterile, without art

Molting, like the snake, shedding old face-skin
Partake of my blood, eat my sin
Talk gently to me and cut off my feet
The place where destiny is made, there we'll meet

Where we danced with blades, a long time ago
Something bitter, tasting of ash, a blow so low
Dealt with love, it would appear, for a shared dream
I worry that love is violence, Heavens! It does so seem

That in my own fierce love
In trying so hard to raise my siblings above
The struggles and trials of life
I brought to my land war and strife

Notes:

Look at this spunky little thing here if you haven't yet. A lot of the imagery is inspired on this visual.

"Molting, like the snake, shedding old face-skin" --> a visual jumble of different symbolisms. The molting in this case is done by the Tribunal, ushering in a new age for the Chimer by killing Nerevar. Yet the face-skin refers to Nerevar's face being cut off, as in the drawing, and, if I recall correctly, the Sermons of Vivec; I like it when meanings are a bit muddled and odd and the visuals blur together. And of course, the snake is the quintessential symbol of betrayal.
