Ryder had been gone for a few hours and the pups didn't know what to do with themselves.
See, they'd run out of food (a semi-regular occurrence considering there were six of them) and he had left to buy some more, leaving all the dogs alone in headquarters until he returned.
"How much longer do you think he'll take?" Marshall asked, miserable. Chase, who had been left in charge, chuckled and began running the calculations in his head.
"Well, he left four hours ago" the German shepherd began. "The drive to the pet store over in Adventure City is about an hour and a half, so to and from would be three hours, give or take" he reasoned. "And he usually likes to visit Liberty, so... He'll probably be back in about ten minutes"
"Oh, I don't know if I can make it that long" Zuma whined dramatically, flopping to the floor. His stomach growled from hunger, causing the other pups to share a laugh until their stomachs all growled as well. They all looked over at Rubble and Skye, who had been the loudest of the bunch.
"Sorry, guys" Skye muttered with a sheepish smile.
"Food is just so good and it's been so long since we've eaten" Rubble sighed. Rocky frowned in confusion.
"We ate last night. It's only noon" the grey dog said, confused as to what the big deal was. He was also hungry, sure, but hardly miserable. That seemed a bit dramatic.
"I just hope Ryder gets back soon" Marshall complained as he rolled around on the ground to try and ignore the hunger pains.
Just then, they heard Ryder's ATV pull up outside.
They all raced outside, but Marshall slipped on the way, crashing into the other pups and making them form into a chaotic puppy pile. Ryder chuckled at the display.
"You pups really missed me, huh?"
"It was torture!" Skye exclaimed. They all looked at the human's vehicle as he got out of it and saw three jumbo-sized bags of kibble in the back. Even better, though, was the box that Ryder slowly revealed from behind his back.
Pup treats.
Immediately, the dogs all got in a line and sat obediently. Ryder smiled and began to go down the line, giving each pup a treat. The faint growling still emanating from their stomachs went away as they scarfed down the snacks.
"Alright, now" Ryder clapped his hands together. "Rocky, help me get this kibble inside so you can all eat properly"
"Yes, Ryder!"
"Good pup"
