Work Text:
Frantically picking up her phone, Kirara squints down at the bright screen as the time reads 7:36 p.m. She took a deep sigh as she grabbed her eyeshadow palette, tapping her brush into a brown shade then blending the product into her eyelids.
“Shit, Kin-chan’s gonna be here any minute and I’m nowhere being done.” She grumbles to herself.
Despite spending an hour and a half getting ready, she still needed to apply her makeup and do her hair. She spent 40 minutes choosing an outfit and ironing said outfit. The remainder of the time consisted of her in the shower, making sure she shaved every piece of hair off of her body. She wanted to feel good tonight on her date and a large part of that enjoyment comes from her looking good.
To wrap her eye makeup, she takes a tiny brush and taps into a bright colored shimmery pink shade and places it in the inner corner of her eyes, in an attempt to make her big eyes pop even more. After doing her mascara and blush, she applies a pink lipgloss, ultimately wrapping up her makeup look.
Kirara looks up into the mirror and proceeds to her next task, her hair. She takes down the hair rollers she had placed on her hair the night before. One by one, the curls roll down, unveiling a head full of curls. She takes some hair oil and gently rubs it into her hands, taking her slender fingers and slowly defining her curls without getting her hair frizzy.
After being satisfied with the volume of her hair, Kirara takes one final look of herself in the mirror. She’s quite proud of herself. A year ago, the old Kirara would have never thought this is how she could look like. Finally, she was able to love the way she looked in the mirror. It took a lot of work and painful moments, but she’s finally happy.
Kirara quickly grabs her phone as she darts out of the bathroom. Hakari was gonna arrive to pick her up at 8:00 p.m and it was currently 7:55 p.m. As if on cue, Kirara heard her door bell ring. Having nothing on but a bra and some panties, Kirara starts to panic.
She quickly grabs her skirt and quickly pulls it up while simultaneously reaching for her blouse. After managing to put on her outfit in less than a minute, she runs to the front door to open the door for Hakari.
She took a step back while observing the very tall boy. He wore a white tee and some blue jeans with pristine white sneakers. His neck was adorned with a gold chain. She looked down to see he was holding a delicately wrapped bouquet of flowers. Kirara blushed as their eyes interlocked with each other.
“Hey, you look good.” Hakari says sheepishly, grinning a toothy smile
“Oh…uh…thank you. You look good too.” Kirara giggled. He shyly handed her the flowers. Kirara, being the fumbling mess she is, reaches over with her shaky hands to grab the flowers.
Damn, why does she always get this feeling around him? She’s known him since they were first years, but to this day Kirara gets heart palpitations in his presence. What is it about him that makes her knees start to buckle whenever she’s around him?
Is it the stupid smile he flashes her? Is it the vibrations of his warm laugh he lets out when she’s cuddling into his chest? Or is it his deep, groggy, annoyed voice that sends butterflies into her tummy whenever she FaceTimes on days he decided to sleep in.
Kirara steps aside and beckons the towering boy to come in. Despite being an item for a couple of months now, the two have never really been on an official date.
“Kin-chan, give me a couple minutes to finish getting ready and to put these flowers in a vase.”
She grabs his hand and leads him to her sofa motioning for him to sit there.
“By the way…” Kirara shyly utters, “these flowers are peonies…right? You still remembered what I said that day back in January when you took me to the New Year’s Festival? I told you I loved it when peonies bloom because they are my favorite flowers. You really remembered something so minor like that?”
Hakari let out a chuckle as he sat on the sofa. “Well, I wouldn’t call that a minor detail, you told me your favorite flowers and I made a mental note of it.”
The silence the room fell into was interrupted when Hakari began to hear quiet sniffles and whimpers. His eyes darted up only to be met with Kirara’s, who currently has tears pooling at the bottom of her eyes and a face that grew redder with passing of every second.
“C’mon Kirara, why are you crying?” He sympathetically asked her.
She buried her face into her hands and shook her head.
“Hey, you don’t want to mess up your makeup, now?” he whispered to her as he pulled her hands off her face by the wrist, bringing her face closer to his.
“No.” She whispers back with a cracking voice.
“Ok, I’ll be waiting here, go finish getting ready, ok?” He says sweetly while wiping the tears from her eyes.
She sniffles and mutters out an “OK” as she heads into the kitchen to presumably put the flowers in a vase.
This was confirmed as she walked out of the kitchen without the flowers.
“Kin-chan, I’m gonna go touch up my makeup. I’m sorry for making us run late.” She giggles, with a strikingly different demeanor compared to the one she had a couple moments ago.
“Take your time, babe. I ain’t in a rush.”
They both laughed as she began to run upstairs to the bathroom.
Kirara shakes her head. She can’t believe she really fell for that idiot.
