Keith laughs, and the sound is bright and loud and makes Lance’s knees weak, a little.

“They’re very cute,” Keith says, inspecting them closely. That stupid smirk never leaves his face. “I can see you’ve poured your heart and soul into them. I appreciate it.”
“I didn’t — fuck off! There was no heart and soul involved. Only — malice and hatred!”
“The cutest manifestation of malice and hatred I’ve ever received,” Keith assures, falsely sincere. He brushes past Lance to get to his door, and Lance scrambles to put as much distance between them as possible. Keith is undeterred, leaning against his newly opened door as casual as can be.

“I never agreed to be rivals,” Keith points out.
“You have started twelve separate competitions in three days!”
Keith shrugs. “What was I supposed to do, let you think you were winning?”
“I don’t know! I just — argh! You’re so confusing!”
This, finally, manages to tick Keith off.
“I’m confusing, you walking mixed signal? You’re the one who refuses to be friends with me but holds my hand and says we’re a good team!”
“I was experiencing a brief lapse of judgement due to being exploded!” Lance screeches. “I latched onto the first pretty face I saw! That was my reptile brain and I cannot be held accountable!”
