[Valentine's Day 2023] Flowers in Your Hair

Summary:

Antonin, Harry and little Teddy spend a calm afternoon making flower crowns in a park.

Pure fluff written for the HP Shipuary 2023.

Notes:

Hello! So... I wanted to write an Antonin/Harry but I've been really tired lately and I was struggling to write anything. This is short but, I think it's fluffy.
• I do not own Harry Potter.
• English is not my native tongue.
•This story takes place in my War Children story (that I have yet to start posting). You don't need to know anything about it.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Harry sighed, a smile tugging at his lips as he held a fussy Teddy in his arms. The twins were out of town due to a business meeting with potential sponsors. They wanted to open another joke shop – in Canada this time. They offered Harry to come with them (with little Teddy of course) but Harry declined; Fred and George would only be gone for the day and would be back tomorrow. They were quite so co-dependent that they couldn't spend a day apart (at least, that's what Harry liked to think). Besides, today was February 14th and Antonin promised to be there. Sure, he could have just taken an international portkey but, meh.

Grabbing his bag where he put all of Teddy's necessities, he let out a giggle when the toddler offered him a gummy smile. His hair changed from blue to black and his eyes turned purple. A faint blush coloured Harry's cheeks. Teddy looked like a perfect mix of both he and Antonin. Teddy had been doing that more and more recently.

When he deemed himself and Teddy ready, he walked toward the door and opened it, just in time to welcome a newcomer.

“Hello, am I early?”

Harry's blush grew more vibrant at the sound of a velvety voice and he swallowed when he caught sight of Antonin. The older man was leaning against the door frame, wearing a black shirt with the first buttons open. It was simple but somehow, Antonin looked incredibly hot in this. Then again, Harry thought as he shook his head in response, Antonin always looked hot.

“Good. You look great tonight – although you're always pretty, darling.”

The younger male giggled behind his free hand before handing little Teddy to his partner. Antonin took him with a somewhat befuddled smile.

“You know I'm bad with magical means of transport.”

“Right.”

Harry could tell that Antonin was smothering his amusement and he resisted the urge to pout. The Russian then wrapped an arm around Harry's waist, Teddy secured between them.

“Don't worry, sweetheart. I'll catch you if you fall.”

Merlin, was why Antonin so good at this? He always managed to turn Harry into a flustered mess.

Harry recognized at once the place where Antonin had taken them. It was a nice park in a reclused part of Ireland. It was also there that they had their first official date (because according to the twins and Graham, Anton and him had been dating for years when it only became official a year ago).

Antonin grabbed his hand and led him toward a garden bench. The arch that circle it was filled with Clematis and Wisteria.

Harry smiled but instead of sitting on the bench when Antonin released his hand, he sat on the green grass. His partner raised a brow but settled down beside him, little Teddy in his lap.

“I made a reservation to La Cuisine du Chat Noir,” Antonin started with a light tone.

Harry knew him better than that though. He could tell his partner was nervous. He couldn't see why though; Antonin knew him well. He knew that Harry preferred a small convivial restaurant rather than a chic and expensive-looking one. La Cuisine du Chat Noir fitted perfectly.

“Really? This is great!”

Still, seeing the usually confident Antonin Dolohov so soft and nervous was a bit of a treat (even if Harry would never admit it).

The young man glanced around and once he was sure that no one was looking, opened his bag. He had stashed the few things they would need in there.

He didn't necessarily need Floratape stem wrap, scissors, wires or even adhesive since he was a wizard but still, there were some things he liked to do without magic.

Besides him, in Antonin's lap, Teddy was entertaining himself with a butterfly fluttering close to him.

“Hm, what are you doing?” Antonin asked him during a lull in the conversation.

Harry hummed contently as he continued to wire each flower steam. He already trimmed them earlier that day so that everything would be ready.

“I'm making flower crowns.”

It was nice. Harry enjoyed making flower crowns. The weather was really nice today so that was a plus.

By the slight furrow of the other man's brow, Harry could tell the man had no idea what he was talking about.

“Oh, you mean...”

He had seen Harry wear flower crowns before but he had never seen how one made those.

“May I... Hum... May I help?”

Harry giggled. Antonin had never sounded so uncertain in his life, not even when he decided to offer his help with their Dark Lord problem.

“Sure. Here. I'll guide you through it,” he replied as he handed Antonin the crown he had been making.

He could start again from scratch. He had a feeling Antonin would grow a little frustrated if he had to start from the very beginning. While his lover was a very patient man, it was also true that he wasn't very good with manual work.

They spent their afternoon making flower crowns (or in Antonin's case learning to make flower crowns), Harry chuckling softly at the look of utter concentration on the Russian's face.

When he was done, Harry smiled softly and shrank down the size of the crown before fitting it onto Teddy's fluffy head. The toddler looked up, giggling and babbling and Harry grinned when the baby held his arms extending towards him.

“Aw ~ Teddy! You're so adorable!” he squealed, grabbing the boy and holding him against his chest.

When he glanced at Antonin, the man was smiling at them, a soft look in his purple eyes.

Harry felt his cheeks heat up, especially when a lady a few feet away, told her boyfriend that they were “such a cute family”.

They did look like a family.

Correction: they were a family. They were just missing the twins – but those two would come back tomorrow, grinning like demons after having terrorized their new associates/sponsors.

Something was dropped on his head and he blinked, looking up. Antonin was crouching down in front of him, smirking.

Harry extended his left arm to touch his head and bit back a smile. When he grabbed the crown to examine it, he let out a chuckle.

“Is it... Is it bad?”

It wasn't. It was very colourful, just like Harry liked it.

“No, no, no! It's pretty good. Really pretty, I like it. Thank you, Anton.”

Harry put it back on his head and enjoyed the expression of relief that briefly appeared on the face of the Unspeakable.

“Here,” he said, delicately grabbing a second flower crown that he had just finished a few minutes earlier.

He knelt in front of Antonin and put the crown on the top of his head, snickering when the too-big crown toppled over a bit. With a gentle caress, he resized it and sat back with a satisfied grin.

“There, you look nice,” he said, giggling.

Antonin gave him a fond smile and leaned forward to kiss his cheek.

Then Harry almost shrieked because Teddy was trying to eat an ant.

“Teddy, no!”

Antonin burst into laughter. Whelp, it looked like little Teddy had found something new to entertain him.

Notes:

I do not know if Antonin being Russian (or having Russian roots) is Canon or not but he is in most of my works anyway.
Happy... uh... Valentine's Day?
