The Issue of the Undercroft

Summary:

To put it frankly, he was pissed. Extremely pissed. This new kid should have no idea what the Undercroft was, let alone how to open it. He obviously didn’t buy their lies about just stumbling into it, there was no way they could have. This room had stayed hidden from teachers and students alike for generations. No one person could have found his family’s secrets so easily, especially that quickly. No, the only way they could have known about it was if Sebastian had shown them.

Notes:

THERE ARE MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE UNDERCROFT QUEST AND MINOR SPOILERS UP TO THE THE SCRIPTORIUM (aka "In the Shadow of the Study")

So sorry if this is OOC I haven't written in a LONG time, and kinda rushed this. :p Hope you enjoy <3
(Happy Valentines Day <3)

Work Text:

To put it frankly, he was pissed. Extremely pissed. Ominis heard the footsteps of the new fifth-year walking away from him. He stood there for a moment, even as the steps got quieter and quieter. He was trying to collect himself, or at least calm down. All he wanted was to go to the Undercroft, a place that only he and Sebastian were supposed to know about. This new kid should have no idea what the Undercolf was, let alone how to open it. He obviously didn’t buy their lies about just stumbling into it, there was no way they could have. This room had stayed hidden from teachers and students alike for generations. No one person could have found his family’s secrets so easily, especially that quickly. No, the only way they could have known about it was if Sebastian had shown them. Ominis had shared the secret with him only because he trusted him not to tell anyone else.
He waved his wand at the clockwork door, causing it to unwind and open for him to walk in. When the noise of its gears stopped, Ominis stepped into the passage and started his descent. Sebastian was his longest, closest friend. Yet, he didn’t understand why he would trust a newcomer with sensitive information like this. There must be some reason other than Sebastion just trusted them, maybe he was trying to impress them. The thought made him shutter. Sebastian had done quite… extravagant things to get people's attention. He might have wanted to make up for the newcomer squashing his ass in the class duel. But he had never gone this far before, he had never shown anyone the Undercolf. Perhaps it was something more than their respect Sebastian was searching for. They were almost sixteen after all, eventually Sebastion would become interested in someone.
Ominis made it down to the Undercroft, his shoes clicking on the steps down to the main room. That noise was most likely what alerted the person who was already down there.

“Ominis-” Sebastian called out to him, getting up from where he had been sitting. He was evidently trying to make his way toward him.

“Don’t.” His voice came out cold, and that word was all he had to say to stop Sebastian in his tracks. “Why, why would you show someone else this place!” Ominis finished his way down, stopping a few feet away from the edge of the steps. “You promised me you would never show anyone the Undercroft!” His voice echoed throughout the room. No answer came back immediately, and the silence was deafening. Sebastian started talking, then backed off again, a clear sign of guilt.

“Ominis, I didn’t think you would mind…” Sebastian said, trailing off at the end. More lies, but Ominis was used to that. Sebastian would lie out of his ass anytime he was in trouble. “I just really wanted to show them a cool spell, and I couldn’t anywhere else. I didn’t want us to get caught again. And I swear they wouldn’t tell a soul, really!”

These words did nothing to calm Ominis, in fact it added to the flame. “Who exactly got to decide that they were trustworthy!” He spat, “Because I have never trusted your judgment, especially when it isn’t your decision to make!” Ominis could feel his face getting hotter, but he really could care less right now. Ever since that new kid came around, Sebastion had only been getting into more and more trouble. Which was honestly a great feat, seeing all the trouble he gets into by himself. He could hear Sebastion shifting around, most likely trying to think of a way to get out of this. Perhaps he should have thought about that before inviting a stranger into his safe place.

“Look, Ominis, I really didn’t think you would care about this so much. I doubt they will even come back on their own, all I did was teach them confringo. You're blowing this way out of proportion mate.” Sebastian answered. This is what Ominis hated about him; the stupid, arrogant, cocky shit he pulls. Why in the world would Ominis not care about the Undercroft? Perhaps Sebastion had finally knocked a screw loose from his constraint dueling. Though, if he was to speak truthfully, most of the screws were long gone.

“You're a bloody idiot, Sebastian! Why wouldn’t I care? It’s a secret that has been in my family for generations!” Ominis shouted, “Pardon me for being a little angry about you sharing it with a total stranger!” He was beginning to get a little out of breath, he hated yelling like this. He sounded so much like this father when he spoke like this. This thought stilled his anger, and transfigured it into a new emotion. Shame. Maybe Sebastian was right, maybe he was being vile for no good reason. “All-” He started, in a much quieter voice, “All I want is an apology for this, and for you to promise that it will never happen again.”

Again, all noise cut from the room. Ominis could hear their breaths, the in and out of their lungs. His were a good deal louder than Sebastain’s. “Ok, Ominis, I’m sorry.” At least it was a start, still not exactly what he wanted. Sebastain was halfway there. “And-” Sebastian added quickly, “I promise I won't tell anyone else.” He emphasized this by slamming his fist onto his body, Ominis could guess that it was his chest. This was something he was quite fond of. No matter how much he yelled at and cursed Sebastian, he always found a way to make Ominis happier. It was quite annoying.

Ominis sighed, the tension leaving his body. Against his best wishes, he cracked a small smile. Sebastian quickly picked up on the mood change and finished his movements from earlier. He moved into Ominis’s personal space and slung an arm around him. Ominis flinched, but he flinched at any physical contact. Sebastian knew that he didn’t mean to and that he didn’t mind when Sebastian touched him. It was just a subconscious movement, a learned reaction to touch. That’s why Ominis leaned into Sebastian after a few seconds. “You know, you can be a giant dick sometimes.” Sebastian’s laugh echoed throughout the room, bouncing off the walls and back at him again.

“I try my hardest,” Sebastian answered, and Ominis could hear the smirk on his face. He really wished he could see the smirk he hears girls whisper about in the common room, or how fluffy they say his hair is. Of course, he could always ask Sebastian if he could touch his hair. Ominis could almost imagine how soft it would be, and how easy it would be to- Ah. He shakes his head, knocking weird thoughts like that away. Sebastian’s voice pulls him from his more than questionable thoughts. ”Are we good then? I didn’t mean to upset you Ominis.”

Ominis barely got the word “yes” out of his mouth before he got pulled closer and into a hug. Sebastian’s arm pinned him to his friend's body. He could feel his face warm up, somehow worse than before. Sebastian was laughing again, and Ominis could feel it reverberate in his chest. All he could do was bury his head into the other boy’s shoulder and accept his fate.
