✧・゚: *✧・゚:*

Everyone stops what they're doing when a loud "aha!" rings throughout the place, even Kyungsoo stops his frantic search. It comes from the corner where Baekhyun is standing, he looks delighted as he stares down at his hand. No one sees Kyungsoo so much as feels the wind gushing past them as he quickly dashes to Baekhyun's corner.

Notes:

it's supposed to be a really short drabble, and altho it's still kinda short, it gets a bit longer than intended.

this story is based on a post i saw about how their grandparents met at a bar and their granmother threw her number to their grandad and his three friends and the grandad was the one who caught the paper, and i thought it was really cute so i decided to use it as a prompt. i think it gets a bit clunky at the end but hope yall like it.

Work Text:

Chanyeol and Kyungsoo's story began at a club, where Kyungsoo, with his friends, spent every Saturday night to loosen up and trash talk about their boss as a sort of of game where they'd try to one-up one another by coming up with different ways to insult their boss— behind his back of course. Baekhyun was his annoying self, and Jongdae was much the same because they were already drunk and once in a while he would randomly belt out a song and whether Baekhyun knew the lyrics or not, he'd immediately join in until Jongdae decided it was enough and he'd pour more drinks for them both. Kyungsoo couldn't count how many times they've yelled "bottoms up!".

Baekhyun leaned closer to Kyungsoo to whisper incoherently in his ears, "Those guys over there've been checking ya out."

Kyungsoo discreetly spared a quick glance towards where Baekhyun indicated to see that four men were sitting around a table alternating between looking at Kyungsoo and talking among themselves. Kyungsoo quickly turned his attention back to Baekhyun who was draping himself on Kyungsoo's shoulder, Jongdae had already passed out with a straw in his mouth and an empty glass in his hand.

Kyungsoo sighed as he pushed Baekhyun off and attempted to wake the sleeping dinosaur. He's glad no one had resorted to speaking in tongues tonight. Fortunately Jongdae woke at the third attempt and Baekhyun was conscious enough to put one foot before the other.

Kyungsoo closed their open tab, and was about to walked his friends out when those four guys from before awkwardly approached them.

For four big men who looked like they had lived a better part of their lives sweating in a gym, they looked really nervous as they all asked for Kyungsoo's number. Baekhyun gave a sloppy whistle that didn't sound anything like a whistle at all, before he dragged Jongdae out the door, shouting back at Kyungsoo that they'd wait for him in the car, if they could even find it.

Kyungsoo was struck dumb. It'd been a while since anyone ask for his number, and certainly never by four men in the same night, at the same place, at the same time. He was a bit overwhelmed and he had half a mind to decline their advances but he had a drink too many than he usually did and he was a bit drunk, and his had been overworking him for a week, and throwing caution in the wind seemed like a really good idea to him.

Baekhyun had always told him to be a bit adventurous, hadn't he?

Looking at the awkward men in front of him who shifted once in a while, Kyungsoo asked to borrow a pen and a paper from the bartender. Thanking the man, Kyungsoo wrote down his number on the paper, folded it, gave the pen back to the bartender and threw the piece of paper towards the four men patiently waiting for him as he quickly made his way out.

Kyungsoo is nervous, of course he is, it's his wedding day. But he's more furious than anything. Everything is a mess. First they made a mistake on the invitation card by printing his name as Dough instead of Do, nothing they can do about thag, and second he spilled the wine Baekhyun had poured for him "for your nerves!" on his suit jacket and they have to find a substitute in a rush, and now his ring is missing. Godfuckingdamnit. Today's his big day. He's going to finally marry the love of his life and everything's going to shit.

He's already a nervous wreck as it is, now here he is, along with all the guests, in the middle of turning the place up side down insearch of that goddamned tiny golden ring; which cost them a fucking forturne for Christ's sake! He's covered in sweat, panicked, furious and a whole other lot of emotions and the warm weather that has been a blessing a few minutes prior is now nothing but a hindrance as he feels his makeup starting to break down with him sweating all over.

He has already stood on the altar, facing his soon to be husband, Park Chanyeol, his stupid, dumbass, soon to be husband Park Chanyeol, before all of the people that they invited to witness their union. But, when they were about to slip the ring in they found out that his ring was long gone. He had glared at Baekhyun, his clumsy best friend, who he trusted to take care of the ring.

His cheeks are tinted red, both from embarrassment and from the warm weather. He's made a fool of himself, of his husband, of the marriage officiant for fuck's sake, in front of eighty six people. Chanyeol doesn't look much better either, but when he sees Kyungsoo on the verge of breaking down, he takes his hand to keep him calm. Kyungsoo, however, threw his hand away as he gets on his hands and knees to look around for the ring. Chanyeol sighs and Kyungsoo wants to scream.

Kyungsoo also wants to kill someone and if that someone can be his best friend who tries his best to avoid Kyungsoo, all the better. Instead of finding Baekhyun to tell him exactly what is on his mind right now, Kyungsoo decides to look around for the ring, all the while picturing the best place to hide a body.

While he's busy sticking his head under one of the benches, his husband crouches beside him and takes Kyungsoo's hand in his. "Kyungie, calm down. Why don't we finish this wedding without the ring? We can go and buy another one later."

Kyungsoo glares at him, he throws his hand away, again, "We're not going to waste money for another ring. I want that ring now and I will have it."

Chanyeol tries to further convince him but Kyungsoo stands up and walks away. Chanyeol, once again, wonders how they somehow fell in love and get here, getting married, well, they would be if it isn't for Kyungsoo halting the ceremony in the middle of it to look for a ring they could easily buy again if they put some money together. They're a polar opposite, he knows that. Especially when it comes to money. Chanyeol spends money like it grows on trees and Kyungsoo treats money like it's something to worship and put on a pedestal lest someone comes and shred them to pieces. Kyungsoo hates unnecessary spending and Chanyeol loves making unnecessary purchases (especially for Kyungsoo).

Everyone stops what they're doing when a loud "aha!" rings throughout the place, even Kyungsoo stops his frantic search. It comes from the corner where Baekhyun is standing, he looks delighted as he stares down at his hand. No one sees Kyungsoo so much as feels the wind gushing past them as Kyungsoo quickly runs to Baekhyun's corner.

As soon as Kyungsoo stands before him, gripping his arm, Baekhyun's smile slips away. He tries to give Kyungsoo a placating smile but looking at Kyungsoo's murderous eyes his muscles refuse to move.

"Where did you find it?" Kyungsoo spits out. Baekhyun swears he sees his eyes turn black, and blue and black fire dancing around him!

Baekhyun swallows, "It's. I. It was in my pocket."

Kyungsoo takes a deep breath as his whole face turns red, Baekhyun has half a mind to get on his knees and hug Kyungsoo's and beg for forgiveness. Kyungsoo's hand moves from Baekhyun's arm to his shoulder as he lightly pat it. "Thanks," Kyungsoo says with a smile that does nothing to calm Baekhyun's racing heart, "Thanks for nothing." Baekhyun winced in pain, his shoulder is throbbing.

"Kyungie!" Chanyeol comes running, afraid that Kyungsoo might break his best friend's bone, "Let's continue the ceremony, come on. Let's get married."

Kyungsoo huffs before he walks back to where the officiant was standing, politely not commenting on the mess and gives back Chanyeol the ring— they stands face to face once again. However, it seems that the train wreck hasn't ended with the discovery of the lost ring. When Chanyeol tries to slip the ring in on the finger, it won't go past the first knuckle. The ring doesn't fit! After another commotion of trying to force the ring in, Kyungsoo shouting in pain and Chanyeol profusely apologising, Chanyeol ends up slipping it in on the pinky finger.

Kyungsoo and Chanyeol's wedding day becomes a sort of an inside-joke among the familes from both side. The story ends up being passed down from one generation to another, as a tradition of sorts.

And Kyungsoo would proudly tells his grandchildren, "It was your grandfather who caught the paper I threw to those four men back in that club!"

Chanyeol would laugh and he'd kiss his forehead. And the children would laugh with them.
