Valentine’s Day was not celebrated widely in Twisted Wonderland, but it was in the Queendom of Roses.
“That’s that Valentines Festival, yeah?”
“Valentina, but yes.” Riddle nodded.
“What’s the difference?” Leona looked at the boy with a tired expression as Riddle contemplated his next move.
“The Valentina Festival is in respect to Lady Valentina. Valentines are made and given to others in honor of her.” Riddle explained.
“And who the hell is Valentina?”
Riddle laughed a bit, “Valentina was a young lady that visited the Queendom when the Queen of Hearts was not yet in control. She was from the Kingdom of Heroes, in training to become a priestess to Juno- or Hera if you follow the Isle’s tales. She was exceptionally kind and loving, and she gave trinkets and gifts to those she met on her travels.
“When in the Queendom she met the three Princesses and the Prince, by whom I mean the Queen of Hearts, the Prince of Diamonds, the Princess of Clubs, and the Princess of Spades. She gave them all gifts, in the form of handkerchiefs with their respective symbols embroidered on them.
“The Queen of hearts and her became close friends; actually, she might have been the Queen of Hearts first friend, according to some: but regardless, the Queen of Hearts’s father who was in charge at the time, did not like the girl, likely because she took his children's attention from him, so he waited for her to break a rule, and then off went her head.”
“He executed his daughter's friend?”
“The former King of Cards, as he was called, stepped over the line of strictness into tyranny, he was obsessive in the lives of every soul in his kingdom, even if they followed the laws, the King of Cards was always sending people to be beheaded for things they didn’t do or things that weren’t against the law.” Riddle hummed, “Anyways, when the Queen was crowned, after her fathers death, she decreed the National holiday on February fourteenth in honor of her friend since she never had a chance to grieve whilst her father lived. Every year we all decorate the towns with pink and blue roses, Lady Valentina’s favorite, and we give what the Queen named ‘Valentines’ to those we value: Little trinkets and gifts, much the same as the gifts Valentina gave out. It serves us all as a reminder that those we care for are forever with us even when they are gone, whether that be for a brief time or indefinitely.”
Riddle took a breath and made a move before continuing, “The festival itself, is a large trading festival essentially, and at the end of it, our Royal family delivers a speech. It’s also the time of year that people announce relationships or engagements and such, so the festival is very important to families and couples.
“Every year, Heartslabyul’s gardens are redecorated to have pink and blue roses, and we hold a party for it.” Riddle smiled, “You’re welcome to come if you’d like, though I don’t expect you to, the holiday is not very important outside the Queendom as far as I understand.”
Leona hummed, “I see. Checkmate.”
“What?!”
Leona laughed, “You left your knight unguarded.”
Riddle frowned, “Damn…”

“Is Valentine's day a thing here?” Yume asked as they nibbled on their cold soba at lunch.
“Valentines? Yeah it’s a huge festival in the Queendom, but not much anywhere else, why?”
Yume smiled, “Just wondering.”
“That sounds suspicious.” Ace looked at Yuu with a raised eyebrow.
“Have I ever done something that was deserving of your suspicions?” Yume frowned.
“Last week Jade showed up and told you that he had some poison mushrooms that you might like.” Ace gave them a look.
Deuce looked up, alarmed at the concept, “What?!”
Yume laughed, “I wanted to see how they looked for a set prop, I wasn’t doing anything with them. Jade is really nice when you give him a chance, y’know.”
“You’re also friends with Malleus and Leona, Yume, who are terrifying. So you don’t really have a normal taste in friends.” Ace sighed, “Seriously, you drive me crazy sometimes.”
Yume hummed with a smile, playing with Grim’s bow absentmindedly, “They’re nice to me.”

“There’s a present for ya, Housewarden.” Ace hummed as he set a gift bag next to Riddle at the table Riddle was sitting at.
Riddle blinked, “Oh?”
“A valentine, it looks, you got someone special?”
“No, Ace, and you know that Valentines aren’t inherently romantic.”
Ace hummed, “Yeah yeah, what’s in it though?”
Riddle grabbed the bag after a few moments of finding it and then took some tissue paper out, he took out a card in braille, running his hand over it:
‘I hope my favorite Queenie didn’t forget about his favorite feline friend (not the Lion, wink). Happy Valentine’s Queenie!
Oh! By the by, Mam and Adalsteinn also have some valentines from them in the bag!’
Riddle hummed, “It’s from Che’nya and his family.”
“Che’nya’s the floaty head guy, right?” Ace asked.
“Yes.” Riddle held a laugh, before reaching into the bag, pulling out one item.
“Are those cards with braille?”
Riddle ran his hand over the box, “Seems so, I’ll assume that’s from Adalsteinn, he missed not being able to play cards last time I visited…”
Riddle then pulled out another item and found a small ring, he ran his hand over it and found it had a design, “Ace what does this look like?”
“Uhhh, like a Cat and a croquet stick on one of those house seals.”
Riddle frowned and slowly put the ring on, “It’s a Pinka house ring then… strange… why would they give me that…”
“Probably something symbolic and mushy.”
Riddle shook his head and took out the last item, finding it to be a keychain, he figured out by the shape it was a card, “What is this design?”
“A queen of hearts card, haha, they know you well.”
“That’s from Che’nya then…” Riddle smiled gently.
“Y’know I didn’t take you for a Valentine's person, Housewarden.”
Riddle frowned, “What do you mean?”
“I dunno, the festival is kinda ‘go with the flow’ and is less strict, I guess.”
Riddle hummed, “That’s because it’s a holiday based on a time where Rules caused harm. I admit I wasn’t a large fan of the story behind it growing up, but I always did enjoy going to see the festival decorations with my Papa and exchanging gifts with my parents and the Pinka family.”
“Huh, well, Happy Valentines, Housewarden.”
“You as well, Ace.”

Trey set the chocolates he made on Riddle’s desk in a small container, “Happy Valentines, Riddle.”
Riddle smiled and stopped typing on his laptop, “Thank you, Trey.”
Trey hummed, “It’s not anything new, I always make the same batches of chocolate for my siblings every year, I just started making another batch when you enrolled.”
Riddle hummed, “And I appreciate it.”
Riddle pulled a small box out of his desk after checking that the label was right, “Happy Valentines, Trey.”
Trey took the box and opened it, “Is this…?”
“Yep.” Riddle smiled and went back to typing.
“Riddle!”
Riddle started laughing, “It’s only the buy receipt since it takes a while for things to get to Sage Island.”
“I can’t believe you ordered that icing tip set I was talking about- I was going to save up, Riddle.”
“Well now you can spend that money on something else. Happy Valentines, Trey.” Riddle smiled and Trey sighed before smiling back.
“Thank you, Riddle.” Trey gave him a quick hug.
“Of course.” Riddle nodded as he leaned into the hug.

“Are the Roses the right color?”
“Yep Yep!” Kanina smiled as he finished coloring the last rose a deep blue, ears up in an alert position.
Riddle smiled and nodded, “What about the table set up? And the food?”
“All handled, Riddle!” Sindri smiled and Jokull hummed in agreement from next to his brother.
“Good.” Riddle nodded, “If you all go into the lounge there should be some gifts with your names on them, now that we’re done with prep for tomorrow I believe you all can relax, go ahead and open them, then you can do whatever you wish in your freetime.”
“Aye aye, Riddle!” Jokull and Sindri said in unison and rushed off to get to their presents.
“Thank you Riddle, and happy Valentines.” Kanina smiled softly and brushed his hand over Riddle’s shoulder before leaving.
“Valentines really is a big thing then!” Yume’s voice walked up, Riddle could hear the yawn in their voice.
“Yume.”
“Riddle-Senpai! Happy Valentines, here.” Yume held out a gift and Riddle held his hands out, feeling something soft being dropped into his hands, “It’s a scarf, I heard it gets cold in the Queendom, and it’s February so it’s still cold, thought it might be nice to have.”
Riddle smiled, the scarf was soft.
“It’s red by the way.”
“Thank you, Yume.”
Yume nodded, “Anything for a friend, I used to give out these candy to all my friends when Valentines came around, so I was happy I had a chance to give out Valentines this year.”
Riddle smiled, “If you wish to come, we have a Valentines party tomorrow at four.”
Yume grinned, “I’ll make sure to stop by.”
Riddle nodded, “Happy Valentines.”
“Happy Valentines.”

Riddle laughed as Júli crawled across his arm and then curled up on his chest. He raised a hand and pet the cat, “Sorry I can’t bring you to the party, Júli, I wish I I could but it’s formal.”
A simple purr came as an answer from his familiar, who rubbed her head against his palm. Riddle pet her more with a small hum.
“Happy Valentines, Júli.” Riddle smiled and closed his eyes.
The cat mewled in response before standing and crawling it’s way up to be right next to his neck, falling asleep next to its owner, it’s fluffy tail laid across his shoulder.
Cater took a picture when he found the Housewarden asleep, curled up with his cat. He left his present on Riddle’s desk- Júli was sure to show him it when they woke up.
He posted the picture on his private account after her left the room and smiled when comments from friends came in:

“Stay still.”
“Yes, Vil.” Riddle didn’t move as Vil ran his hands through Riddle’s hair and put some product in it.
“You look pretty cute, Riddle, not gonna lie.” Kanina smiled from where he was watching Vil dye Riddle’s hair.
“Thank you, though it’s fairly ironic that I’m sitting still for hours for cosmetics I can’t see.” Riddle cracked a small smile.
Vil hummed, “Valentines is a part of your culture, no? It’s not actually unusual for people to put in effort like this for such festivals.”
“Yes, The Valentina Festival is very important to Cardians and Miran’s alike, it’s not uncommon for things such as this.” Riddle confirmed.
Vil mumbled a spell, “Wonderful, it’s finished.”
“Cute.” Kanina smiled and leaned on his cruches, “We should get you some hair clips and pin back one side.”
Riddle hummed, “We can do that later.”
Riddle stood from the chair in Vil’s room, Vil had him turn around once so he could look him over.
“You know, white hair does suit you, as does red just fine, but this is a whole different kind of charm.”
To match the color scheme, Riddle had asked Kanina to dye his hair so it would match his pink and white outfit; now his hair after being styled, started at white at the roots, before fading into a soft pink.
Riddle tucked his hair behind his ear and put his shades on, Vil made a face, “Nono, that doesn’t work, give me those.”
Riddle frowned, “I’d rather keep them.”
“Just take them off.”
Vil dug threw a small box and pulled out some white rimmed shades with a pink tint and put them on Riddle.
“Aw!” Kanina grinned, “Housewarden’s extra pink now, it makes your eyes look softer.”
Riddle shifted awkwardly, “Thank you both.”
“It’s good you came to me.” Vil walked off to the side, “Come to me when you want your hair back to normal.”
Riddle nodded, “Right, Kanina are you coming back with me?”
“Yep!”

Riddle twisted the Pinka house ring on his finger, humming as the party guests began to arrive.
Riddle was wearing a dramatic outfit, one different to his housewarden uniform.
He had a pink and white color scheme: a complicated outfit consisting of a white shirt and pants, and a pink half skirt falling from his waist, the lower sleeve of part of his shirt had been removed and hemmed into a half sleeve to reveal the Cardian heart marking on Riddle’s inner wrist. His eye markings had been covered by a light pink eye shadow, and His eyeliner and eyelashes were white, done with Cater’s assistance.
For the rest of the dorm, they had more simple outfits, essentially a school uniform in either black and deep blue or pink and white.
“You look like Cotten Candy.” Riddle laughed hearing Leona’s comment.
“I hope you followed dress code and are wearing blue and black, since you sound as if you dislike the other option.” Riddle smiled.
“Yeah, the pup wouldn’t let me go otherwise.”
“It’s the rules of the event, Housewarden.” Jack huffed gently.
“Yeah yeah.”
Ruggie snickered from the side.
Leona was wearing black slacks, a turtleneck, and an expensive deep blue coat, His hair was done back into a messy bun. One would assume that it was Jack who forced him to look nice- though it was definitely someone like Yume or Vil who had picked the outfit, since Jack didn’t have much in mind for formal outfits.
Ruggie wore black pants and a blue shirt also likely chosen by someone else, he had a blue clip in his hair a little below and in front of his left ear.
Jack wore blue and black as well, an inverted version of Ruggie’s outfit with blue pants and a black button up. He had a blue pin on his collar.
Riddle welcomed them in happily, “Ruggie, there should be some food off to the side if you’d like, it’s a selection of foods different people from our dorm make with their families during the festival. Jack, I believe Vil is coming if you want to talk with him, if not though, I know Ace and Deuce are around her somewhere, waiting for Yume and the rest of your group to arrive.”
Ruggie and Jack thanked him and excused themselves.
“Vil dye your hair?”
“He did yes.” Riddle smiled.
“Didn’t realized dress code included that.”
“It doesn’t, no need to worry about that.” Riddle smiled.
“Riddle!” Jamil called out, Kalim next to him.
Kalim gave Riddle a hug after he walked over, “Happy Valentines!” Kalim pulled away, then turned to Leona, he waited a moment.
“Kid.” Leona nodded at him.
“Leona! I didn’t realize you were coming!” Kalim grinned.
Kalim smiled, the boy was wearing a white suit with pink accents, he looked back at Riddle, “Your hair looks so cool, how’d you get it like that?”
“Vil did it for me, Kanina assisted too.” Riddle smiled.
Kalim nodded, “Jamil what do you think? I think it would be cool to dye my hair like that- oh! I should talk to Lilia and Cater about it! We could all have ours dyed similarly and have it like that for a show!”
Jamil sighed gently, “Don’t expect me to help you with that.”
Kalim smiled, “I won’t! Maybe Lilia can teach me, he dyes part of his hair, I think.”
Riddle hummed, “Regardless, welcome to the party, both of you, go ahead and enjoy yourselves.”
Kalim smiled at Riddle again, “Thanks, Riddle! Leona you wanna come with?”
Leona sighed, “Sure, why not.”
Kalim cheered quietly.
Jamil hung back for a moment, “Go ahead, I might catch up.”
“Kay!”
Jamil looked at Riddle, “Here.”
Riddle raised an eyebrow and held his hand out, Jamil placed a small box in it.
“What’s this?”
Riddle opened the box and took the item out, it was on a chain it seemed.
Jamil was wearing a black suit with blue accents, his hair jewelry was also blue, “I wrapped it with wire, then put it on a silver chain.”
Riddle blinked and felt the item.
“Is this…?”
“Yes.”
Riddle smiled softly, “Jamil…”
“Don’t.”
“Happy Valentines Day, Jamil, enjoy the party.”
“…You too.” Jamil walked away and Riddle put the necklace back in the box and tucked it away in his pocket with a small smile on his face.
Riddle welcomed a few other faces before he heard an energetic voice, “Riddle Rosehearts!”
“Ortho Shroud.” Riddle smiled at the robot’s voice, “Is Idia with you.”
“I was told I might be able to see your cat…” Idia mumbled.
Riddle frowned and then sighed, “Júli is in my room, as the party is a formal event, but I can bring you to visit her after I’ve finished greeting guests if you’d like.”
“I… I guess that’s fine…” Idia sighed and mumbled some jargon that Riddle didn’t understand, though he did understand the gist of it, he’s Che’nya’s friend after all, he’s used to strange words.
Ortho had pink flame hair, a white body, and pink details, next to him, Idia was wearing a blue suit with black details, his hair pinned back and braided.
“I’m glad you’ve both decided to attend, Happy Valentines.”
“Happy Valentines, Riddle Rosehearts!” Ortho smiled.
Idia was dragged off by his brother.
The next to arrive was Diasomnia, Riddle gave a smile to Lilia and Malleus, both of which were wearing Blue and black colored traditional clothes for their country, of which Sebek enthusiastically described, then Riddle gave his thanks for them coming and also greeted Silver and Sebek, Sebek seemed proud to describe his black and blue outfit as one reminiscent of Malleus’s outfit (though altered to be more befitting of a guard as he said), and Silver apparently had an outfit made of an enchanted material, according to a comment that Lilia made, saying he couldn’t choose between pink and white or black and blue, so in the light the outfit’s color shifted between the two color combinations. Riddle didn’t mind as long as he didn’t hear it turned black and pink or white and blue.
“Happy Valentines, Rosehearts.” Malleus smiled at him, “As a gift I’d like to give you this charm, if you accept.”
Riddle smiled, he should have expected that Malleus would look into the proper way to give gifts in the islands, “What is it?”
“It’s made with materials believed to bring good luck and strength within our country respectively, Briar Iron and Connemara marble, the design is that of the wheel of a spinning wheel.” Malleus explained.
“He had it specially commissioned when he got your invitation, and was perfectly elated.” Lilia added and Malleus coughed awkwardly, “Then of course he researched hours on how to give a valentine to someone.”
Riddle smiled as Malleus gave Lilia an embarrassed look, “I’m glad you went through so much effort, Housewarden Draconia.” He gave a small bow of his head, “Thank you, I’ll gladly accept your gift.”
He held out his hand and Malleus gave him the small pouch containing the charm.
“Happy Valentines, all of you, please enjoy yourselves.”
“You as well, Rosehearts!” Lilia smiled.
“Thank you, Riddle” Silver gave a gentle smile before walking away with the rest of the group.
“Goldfishie!”
Floyd moved and hugged Riddle, his white suit and pink shirt a near copy of his dorm uniform in different colors, he laughed as he pulled away and looked Riddle up and down, “Goldfishie’s pink instead of red now!”
Riddle brushed off himself when he was let go, “Floyd, are Jade and Azul with you?”
“They are but they let me give you gifts while they went to the main area!” Floyd hummed happily.
“Is that so?”
Floyd hummed, “Mhm!!” He put a box in Riddle’s hand, “You said you wanted to learn about the sea, so Azul got in contact with Sirenfish and got you an Atlantis Authorization License.”
Riddle had given out his presents for the most part earlier in the week, Azul had been taken off guard by the heartfelt gifts that Riddle had given to them.
“An… Atlantis Authorization License… You mean-“
“A Royal issued pass into the coral sea? Yep!” Floyd smiled, “Goldfishie can come visit and learn firsthand whenever he wants if he has that!”
Riddle stood shocked, “This is too much.”
“That’s why it’s from the three of us, Goldfishie, so take it! Happy Valentines!” He walked away with a wave, and Riddle stuttered to call out a happy Valentine’s Day in response.
One of the last to arrive had been, unsurprisingly in a fashionably late fashion, Pomefiore, Epel in a blue and black suit and Vil and Rook in white and pink.
“I was right to put you in those shades.” Vil smiled and Riddle laughed gently.
“So I’ve been told, thank you again for the assistance with my hair.”
“Well, of course.” Vil hummed.
“Roi de roses you have truly made an air of brilliance here!” Rook smiled as he looked around the garden from where they stood.
“Thank you, Rook.” Riddle gave a gentle smile, “Feel free to go take a closer look at things, if you wish.”
“Oui!”
Epel spoke up now, “Happy Valentines, Housewarden Rosehearts.”
Riddle smiled, “Happy Valentines to you as well Epel, I believe the rest of your group save for Yume should be around here somewhere.”
Epel perked up and looked at Vil who sighed and waved him off.
“Later then!”
Epel rushed off and Vil laughed softly, both of his companions having left him as soon as they arrived.
Riddle hummed, “Oh, Vil, please tell me your opinion on Silver’s outfit if you see him, the brief description on it has left me rather confused.”
“Hm? Let me see…”
Vil looked around and saw Silver falling asleep a bit while speaking with Ruggie.
“Oh my…” Vil’s eyes lit up and he smiled, “When he shifts it changes color schemes, that’s gorgeous, And most colors shifting fabrics have a bit of a strange look to them but this is a perfect blend when it changes… oh that’s fascinating, I’ll have to ask what fabric they made that with.”
“Then it’s good, I presume?” Riddle asked.
“Definitely, I’ll have to look closer at it but it also looks like the thread work is expert as well.” Vil smiled, admiring the ensemble, “I thank you for pointing it out.”
Riddle hummed, “I was curious, why don’t you go ahead and speak with him, It seems we’re just waiting on Yume and Grim.”
“I think I will.” He excused himself and Riddle hummed as he waited for the last of the guests.
“We’re late, huh?” Yume asked as they ran up, “Sorry, I couldn’t get Grim to stop eating everything in our fridge.”
Riddle shook his head, “I can understand that, he eats everything when you both visit.”
Yume laughed gently, “Yea.”
Riddle walked with Yume further into the party area, “I have to accompany Idia to visit Júli, but please, enjoy yourself.”
Yume smiled and nodded, “Alright, See you later then, Riddle!” They gave Riddle a quick hug, “Oh- I’ll get Idia to walk over to you so you don’t have to find him.”
Riddle nodded, “Thank you.”
“Sure thing!”

“Júli!” Riddle opened the door to his room and a bell chimed as a kitten of five months ran over to the door and nudged Riddle’s leg, “There you are.” He moved to the side and crouch, petting the kitten, “Here you are, Idia, the kitten you wished to see.”
Idia sat on the floor next to Riddle and reached a hand out to the kitten, somewhat nervously.
The kitten looked at him and crawled into Idia’s lap, curling up and sitting on his legs.
Idia made a noise and then started petting her with a smile, “Animals don’t usually like me because of my hair…”
Riddle hummed gently “She’s a service animal, so she’s been training to pick up on signals of negative emotions. She probably saw you were nervous and wanted to comfort you.”
Riddle heard his familiar purr and he smiled, “And because... yeah, she likes you.”
Idia smiled and continued petting her, “I didn’t think an SSR like you would need a service animal… no offense…”
Riddle made a face, “You have met me, no?”
Idia looked at him with a surprised face.
“I was the first person at this school to overblot, and I went blind, if you think I don’t have issues then I’m surprised.”
“I- I’m sorry I didn’t mean-“
Riddle sighed loudly, “Relax, At least I know you’re not treating me any differently.”
Idia awkwardly laughed to fill the silence, “Right…”
Riddle stood, “If you want to stay with Júli you’re welcome to, just don’t poke around my room or take her out to the party or it’s off with your head.”
“Eep!”
Riddle smiled as he left his room.

Yume smiled at the freshmen’s reactions to the little stuffed animals.
Each had a different animal holding a little heart, Deuce a bear, Ace a dog, Jack a wolf, Sebek a crocodile, and Epel a tabby cat.
“They already gave me mine! It was of me but when I become a great sorcerer!” Yume laughed gently, they had made a grey and white big cat with blue in its ears and a pitchfork tail, they thought Grim would like it.
“You made these?”
Yume nodded and yawned as a sleep attack began, their mood soured a bit at the concept of them falling asleep as their friends got their gifts so they tried to shake off their sleepiness.
“That’s… so cool…”
Yume smiled, “I’m glad you like them.”
“Definitely!”
“Of course we do!”
“Anybody who didn’t would be a fool!”
Yume laughed gently and yawned again, “Well…” their eyes drooped, “Happy Valentine's Day.”

“I’d say that was a success.” Trey hummed as he sat next to Riddle in the lounge having just finished cleaning up with all the other students assigned to it.
Riddle was snuggled up with Júli, “It was…” he smiled softly, “I’ve never gotten so many gifts during a Valentine’s Day before, you know…”
“You gave more than I’ve ever seen too.” Trey leaned back into the couch.
“Yes, well…” Riddle’s ears flushed, “I suppose I’ve made more friends this year…”
Trey smiled, “I’m glad, thought you’d be glued to my side forever.”
“Hey!”
Trey laughed, “Kidding!”
“Is Trey-Trey picking on Riri?” Cater’s voice was happy in tone.
“I would never.” Trey grinned.
“You have to do the curfew checks for the entire week.” Riddle huffed.
“What?!”
Riddle laughed, “Kidding! Unless you want to keep picking on me.”
Trey glared playfully, “Alright, I’m done.”
“Good.”
“Oh, we should take a pic for Valentine’s, c’mon, smile!” Cater moved to sit next to Trey and leaned into him, holding out his phone and taking a picture of himself with an awkwardly smiling Trey, and a still grinning Riddle with a small tan and brown kitten in his lap.
“Aw, this is totally gonna be the first in the collection of pics I’m gonna post in my private and public.” Cater started typing on his phone as he went to post a collection of pictures from throughout the day.
Riddle smiled as Cater described the pictures to him so that he knew what would be posted.
