my heart beats for you

Summary:

“What’s wrong love?”

Buck sighed again, looking away from Eddie as he answered.

“It’s just, I mean—I know I said I didn’t want to do anything for Valentine’s Day, but I—"

“Didn’t really mean it?” Eddie finished for him, Buck giving a short nod of his head.

“Yea I-I told you that you should take the shift so then I wouldn’t have to think about it, but then I just—I missed my valentine all day.”

—or—

Buck says he doesn't like Valentines Day; Eddie knows better.

Work Text:

Eddie let himself through the door, slipping off his works boots and placing them on the shoe rack before bending to do the same with Bucks’. The shoes rack was literally right there, and yet—Eddie loved him anyway.

After setting his duffel bag into the laundry room, Eddie made his way down the hall, stopping to peek in at Chris. His son was sleeping soundly, Eddie stepping forward to brush the curls from his face and pull the blankets up over him. Closing the door behind him, Eddie made his way to his room, noting the soft glow of the tv coming from underneath the door.

Blue was the first thing he saw, a soft and tired smile spreading over Buck’s face. Eddie moved toward the far side of the bed, sliding up behind Buck to press a kiss over his soft curls. “Hi baby.”

Buck turned to meet him, making grabby hands for him. “Missed you.” Eddie smiled and bent to press a kiss to his forehead, right over Buck’s birthmark. “Missed you too. I’ll be right back, ok?”

Buck pouted, but eventually let Eddie go, settling back into the bed with a sigh. Eddie smiled to himself as he made for the bathroom to change into some sweats before heading back out of the bedroom and into the hallway closet where he’d stashed Buck’s present.

With the present in hand, Eddie wandered back to his room, softly closing the door behind him. Quietly, Eddie placed the gift on his nightstand before joining Buck on the bed. He curled up to his boyfriend, dragging Buck toward him.

They stayed that way for a few moments, Eddie pretending to drift off, stifling a laugh when he heard Buck sigh.

Buck turned in his hold, Eddie looking him over, a faint smile spreading across his lips while Buck frowned back at him. He reached a hand up to swipe across Bucks lips, trying to brush away some of the frown.

Eddie leaned forward to kiss Bucks pout away, Buck snaking his arms around Eddie to pull him in close. Eddie let himself bask in the touch for a moment before pulling away a tinge, Buck letting out the softest whine, one that went right to Eddie’s heart.

“Just a sec sweetheart,” Eddie promised as he reached behind him for the small gift. Once he had it in hand, Eddie placed it between them, pushing it toward Buck.

“You-you got me a gift?”

“Of course I did. As much as I know you claim to hate the holiday, I still want you to know how much I love you.”

“But I already do Eds. You never let me forget.”

And while that was true, Eddie still wanted him to know, needed Buck to know how much he meant to him, even if it was just through silly gift gestures.

Tapping on the jar, Eddie pushed it toward Buck, watching as the man raised it into the low light of the tv to read the writing on the side. On the inside of the jar was Hershey’s kisses, the note on the outside reading: kisses for when I’m not around.

He watched as Bucks entire face lit up, an all too adorable smile covering his face.

“Eds it’s—god this is the sappiest thing ever.”

“And you love it,” Eddie said with a wag of his brows.

Buck reeled him in for a kiss before hugging him tightly and whispering into his ear. “Not as much as I love you.”

Eddie leaned into the hold, letting Bucks touch surround him.

“I uh, I got something for you too.”

Eddie pulled back so he could meet those blues wholly. “You, Buck, Evan, my love—who hates Valentine’s Day—got me a gift?”

“Well, I made it, but—yea.”

Eddie already loved it, just for the fact Buck had thought of him and made something himself.

Buck reached behind him into his own drawer, pulling out a piece of folded paper, Eddie’s name written in red and purple glitter across the front. He handed it out, Eddie letting his fingers collide with Bucks a moment before pulling away and opening the card.

Inside was one of Bucks ridiculous heart drawings, eyes and squiggles drawn onto it; unlike most days, Buck did not misunderstand the assignment here.

“When did you make this?” Eddie asked as he looked it over.

“The other day when Chris was making his. Did you read what it says?”

Eddie remembered coming home the other day to the dining table a mess of markers and stickers, his boys having the time of their life.

Scanning the card, Eddie picked out Buck’s messy handwriting, reading it over. He chuckled with a fond roll of his eyes, looking up to see the cheekiest smile spread across Buck’s face.

“God you’re such a dork.”

Buck didn’t deny it, Eddie reading the card over once more. Signed at the bottom was a sweet love note, one that ended with—you can have my ass any day.

It was perfect. They would have each other’s backs—or ass—any day.

Setting the card to the side, Eddie pulled Buck to him, tugging the man until he was on his lap. He let his hands wander down to Buck’s ass, using the grip to pull him impossibly closer. Buck groaned into him, all but whining. “Babe, what’re you doing?”

Eddie squeezed again before placing a filthy kiss to Bucks lips. “You said I could have your ass any day, so I’m just taking what’s mine.”

Buck didn’t have any qualms about that, the two falling into one another, taking each other apart soft and slow.

They rested together afterwards, Bucks head over his chest, Eddie rubbing a hand through his curls. Buck inched his head upwards, placing it just over the middle of Eddie’s chest.

Eddie let out a content sigh. “What’re you doing?”

Buck hummed as he nestled further into Eddie, hands wrapping around his sides.

“Just listening to my favorite sound.”

“And what’s that?”

Buck adjusted himself, pushing impossibly closer into Eddie before letting out a content sigh of his own.

“Your heartbeat—it’s my favorite sound.”

Eddie couldn’t help but to disturb his boyfriend, beckoning for a kiss, one Buck easily reciprocated before replacing his ear over Eddie’s heart.

After that, Buck didn’t hate Valentines so much anymore. He always said Eddie made him feel loved every day, especially on that day.

If Eddie’s heart played Bucks favorite song, well, he had no choice but to keep it beating.
