“There’s a picture.” That's all Vicky had said to us, just “there’s a picture,” and we had known, I had known, that it was over. Decades and decades of sanctuary, gone in an instant. A single snapshot of a moment that some faceless reporter shouldn’t have seen, but they did, and now they’re going to know.
I did some math, (scary, I know,) and realized that, according to the official post-THROAM ficlets, Ryan and Brendon canonically came out in approximately the late 90s. This is just me imagining what some aspects of that might look like, considering Ryan has a lifelong commitment to being insecure and unstable in the face of danger. (Aka me using it as an angst generator to fuel the hurt/comfort machine that is my brain.)
