"Mike!" Lucas practically screamed at Mike. Mike pulled his headphones off and stared at Lucas. "What?" He mumbled. "Did you want to hang out with us after school? We're gonna play D&D." Lucas said. Mike looked at them and shook his head. "I have...My mom needs me at home sorry" He said before putting his headphones back on and walking to his class.
He sat down and slumped over. He hadn't gotten any sleep the night before; haunted by vecna, the upside down, demobats, all of it. Everytime he closed his eyes, all he could think about was the upside down. Snapping him out of his thoughts, Will sat in his seat next to Mike. Mike waved at him softly, making Will smile.
"Why aren't you hanging out after school?" Will asked. "I can't. My mom needs me to watch Holly" Mike lied. "You're a horrible liar" Will mumbled. "I'm not lying" Mike got defensive. "Why aren't you going to D&D?" Will pushed. "I just don't want to. Is that a good enough answer?" Mike said, upset, before grabbing a piece of paper and doodling on it.
Will stared at Mike most of the class period, worried about his bestfriend. They had always told each other everything and now it felt like Mike was hiding everything from Will. When the bell rang, Mike got up , excited to leave for the day, when Will pulled his arm. Mike looked at him. "Are you okay?" Will asked softly. "Yeah. I'm fine" Mike said, pulling his arm back and walking away.
