Work Text:
Only the light of the moon, and more faintly that of the stars in the sky, illuminated the night landscape for the young disciples of the Mount Hua Sect.
Baek Cheon stood in front of these children with his back straight and his shoulders back, unwilling to let them feel his own fear. Despite this, he found himself reeling in the same uncertainty that everyone else went through.
In front of him was a strange creature from which he tried to defend the disciples, a Dokkaebi, he called himself. The creature clasped its hands behind its back with a big smirk on its face, announcing to those present with the mannerisms of a presenter in plays: "Mount Hua Sect Incarnations, now that you have gone through the first stage, you can choose your sponsor. Choose wisely."
Words like "incarnation", "sponsor", "statistics screen" and now "constellation", did not make any kind of sense to Baek Cheon. In this place where he had to adapt or die, he fumbled through the interface of his stats screen, finding a list that couldn't be called as such. In reality, there was only one option available to him.
Baek Cheon's mind was filled with conflicting thoughts. The whole situation so far had been ridiculous, didn't it seem like some kind of bad dream? On the other hand, he had never felt more awake than at this moment, nor could he afford to falter when he was now the eldest among the remaining members of the Mount Hua Sect. If the elders were not present, then was Baek Cheon their Leader of the Sect now?
A strange translucent rectangle floated up with an even stranger message in front of his eyes:
[Constellation 'Plum Blossom Sword Saint' warns others to stay away from his incarnation.]
In the midst of this fiasco, Baek Cheon feels a little relieved to find something familiar. Plum Blossom Sword Saint, the legendary ancestor of their Sect, as well as his only option for a sponsor. No, actually isn't this sabotage? To warn others away from him, could this be an attempt to protect him from those with ill intent or part of his own ploy?
[Constellation 'Great Altruistic Sword' stare at 'Plum Blossom Sword Saint'.]
[Constellation 'Plum Blossom Sword Saint' is pouting.]
However, for some reason, Baek Cheon couldn't detect traces of bad intentions, as if he were dealing with a naive child. Maybe it was just himself trying to convince himself that the existence of evil in this scenario it was balanced in turn by the presence of goodness.
[Do you want to become the incarnation of the constellation 'Plum Blossom Sword Saint'?]
[Yes.]
[Constellation 'Plum Blossom Sword Saint' has sponsored 500 coins.]
[Constellation 'Great Altruistic Sword' looks at you with pity.]
'Was this the correct decision?'
That was a question that would be asked during the rest of the scenarios. Sure, his constellation never left him like some others did with their own incarnations. His skills weren't poor either, nor was his funding limited. It's just... The personality.
The indirect messages harassed him non-stop as he lay sprawled on the dirt floor, bleeding profusely from his multiple wounds.
[Constellation 'Plum Blossom Sword Saint' urges you to get up quickly!]
"... I can't move," Baek Cheon muttered, trying to at least raise his hand because his legs might be broken.
[Constellation 'Plum Blossom Sword Saint' is annoyed by your poor martial skills.]
"Didn't I face a fable level constellation?"
[Constellation 'Plum Blossom Sword Saint' is ashamed of you.]
"Shut up! Just shut up! If you have a problem, then come down here yourself and solve it!"
[Constellation 'Plum Blossom Sword Saint' complains about today's youth.]
"I need to be stronger."
The words were spoken to the sky, looking at a bright star in the distant sky.
[Constellation 'Plum Blossom Sword Saint' says that you are not prepared to inherit its history.]
Baek Cheon didn't know much about constellations and their fables, but he could still guess a few things about his constellation. It was, after all, one of the few things they were prepared to know even if their elders never foresaw the use of their knowledge in this way. If it is the fable myth level that constitutes the Plum Blossom Sword Saint, then it should be related to the Heavenly Demon.
Now that they had traversed over twenty stages in the <Star Stream>, he still didn't have the qualifications to inherit their history? A feeling of helplessness washed over him. What's the point of having a powerful constellation backing him up if he can't use his powers properly?
[Constellation 'Plum Blossom Sword Saint' asks you to observe carefully.]
At that moment, a wave of force was ejected through his battered body, sending all his enemies flying until they crashed against the nearest buildings. Sparks of probability flooded around him like sparklers.
His legs bent, easily adjusting the angles of his limbs. Baek Cheon felt his own arm swinging the sword in a position he knew very well, one of the most basic stances of his Sect's swordsmanship. He swung his sword once, and the world in front of him split in half, taking with it the representative bodies of the constellations, incarnations, and even demon kings.
Could he call this the same technique as his Sect? Despite being the most basic level, he felt the difference between heaven and earth. When his sponsor cluttered his vision with messages full of criticism of his stance or level of strength, did he expect this level of dominance? Despite the pain that invaded his muscles, Baek Cheon couldn't help but admire him.
This is the level that the Plum Blossom Sword Saint' expected him to reach, he was the one he had specifically chosen to inherit his history, to inherit his will.
It seemed that Baek Cheon must raise his standards beyond the sun, moon, and stars, to catch up with this damned constellation.
[Trust me.]
Said the Plum Blossom Sword Saint to his incarnation, and Baek Cheon trusted him.
[You bastard, did you think you would get away with bullying the Mount Hua disciples in front of me!?]
That thug's mouth ran freely with Baek Cheon's body. Despite himself, Baek Cheon was only relieved to see him act as freely as ever.
Red petals materialized from the tip of his sword, like an illusion. Since the world came to an end, many techniques evolved with strange attributes that carried their own brand of beauty, yet none could compare with the destructive beauty of the small red and white flowers that this constellation handled.
[Look carefully, Dongryong. This is what you need to achieve before inheriting my story.]
