Chapter Text

4 Years… In those four years, a lot has changed in Faraway, and it was for the worse for the friend group. Telling Basil, he was a nervous wreck would be an understatement, with his constantly looking over his shoulder as if he’s expecting a wraith or hunter to cut his clock short. Always mumbling someone or something is always by the end of his eye-sight, but he can feel it, waiting for the right moment to take him from Earth and drag him to Hell itself. Telling Henry was depressed would be an understatement; falling into a deep state of depression and only stepping out of his room for the occasional meal or bathroom visit. The only reason he barely improved from his depressed state was an argument with his brother, a box cutter, and his parents intervening, and now he has scars to bear because of it. Now he’s barely determined to find reason with the love of his life being gone. Saying Kel was shocked would be understandable; despite chugging rivers full of Orange Joe, he couldn’t wrap his head around what had happened, yet he was the first to get through it. Did it hurt that someone he saw as a big sister took her own life? It did immensely, but not as much as Hero or Sunny. So when he could, he accompanied his big brother to her grave and left a bouquet for her. For Aubrey, it broke her. Not because her sworn blood-sister has taken her own life but what it did to her husband, Sunny. Despite the crude paper ‘officially’ making Sunny and Aubrey husband and wife, it was signed by her as she was the Recorder making it ‘official,’ but despite everyone teasing them in the friend group, she held onto it as if it was the map to the holy lands. As for Sunny, there’s nothing known about him. The reason? He has locked himself, playing a Henry but without the boxcutter, and replaced it with a case of bedridden despite not having a fever, any life in his eyes before the incident was wiped, and it stayed that way for four years.

In those four years, everyone went their way. Basil became a nervous wreck, and whenever his paranoia wasn’t controlling him, he took a part-time job at Fix-It to attend to the plants. Hero tossed himself to any possible task, whether related to classes or playing loud music on his music player, a busy head is a better thing to have than to let those thoughts take over once again. Most of his scars have healed, but it’s blatant how long they are if you lean toward him. Kel went to sports to keep his head clear, and despite the occasional wound, he was still upbeat. He regularly went to talk with Mari and knocked on Sunny’s door with someone by his side. As his wife, it was clear Aubrey wouldn’t budge and always knocked and sat on the front doorstep, if not the front door, if either of his parents were there. Sunny’s parents thought it was cute when they were ‘married,’ but with their daughter's death and Sunny locking himself as if he was a prisoner, they did all they could to support him, so letting his ‘wife’ enter was a must, to increase the chances to leave. Later, she joined a gang and soon became their leader in those years. With the last one joking about her ring, he was never seen again as the members sympathized and were slightly scared of her even though no one knew the significance of it.

Only Kel and Aubrey took turns knocking and waiting by the door, hoping for a miracle or whatever to happen to see Sunny again. Their relationship was awful since they still butted heads has gotten much worse, but the simple thing of keeping them from ripping each other to pieces was Sunny’s well-being. All they could do was acknowledge it and try and fail to make small talk. Thankfully, that’s all to change. On an unexpecting morning during summer break, Kel was once at it, knocking on the door. The slow dread of releasing this is the same as carrying coal to Newcastle; his resolved waver, but the only two things keeping him knocking are his belief that this isn’t going to waste and the size of Aubrey’s bat. “SUNNY! ARE YOU STILL IN THERE? EVERYONE MISSES YOU. PLEASE COME OUT!” Kel didn’t care if he was making a fool of himself; he wanted to see his friend safe and sound. He wanted to be sure he didn’t run away. Letting out a sigh, he was about to call it quits before hearing very faint footsteps on the other side; leaning on the door was his biggest mistake of the day since it opened, and he fell onto the floor. Looking up, he could’ve cried tears of joy at seeing his friend, alive and …well? He was pale and thin, almost like a vampire in disguise, but this was Sunny, right? Picking himself up and giving a bone-crushing hug towards him, he practically dragged Sunny away from his home, after putting shoes on.

The walk to the park was pleasant, with the set of swings showing off faint rust, with the slides full of cheer and delight, and in the midst of that, a blonde teen was surrounded by other teens, picking on him with their scooters grouped up elsewhere. “Oh joy… this again. Come on, Sunny; we have to save Basil.” Sunny tilted his head in confusion. Didn’t he have a flower crown and light green hair? He didn’t have time to think before a blonde-haired teen noticed the two, pointing at them and announcing their presence towards the group. “Well, well, well; if it isn’t Kelsery.” “But it’s just Kel…” Kel protested, but the blonde either didn’t care or pretend not to listen. “Have you come to save him for us or join his fate?!” It was obvious he was being overly dramatic to the point that the guy in the red shirt slapped his back, exposing the blonde as noirette with the golden hair as a wig. After a small back and forth, the ‘blonde’ pointed his finger at the pair, waiting for a brawl. And that would’ve happened if it wasn’t for the leader to join in. She came walking in with the bat, one side full of nails, while the other had stickers that had been eroded thanks to time or blood. Her hair was mostly black, with the ends of her hair having bits of bright pink. Her outfit exposed her midriff and a jean skirt barely above her knees. She was serious when Kel interrupted Hooligan's business, yet he wasn’t the center of attention; it was the person that’s barely smaller than her to be standing next to him. With a basic stare at him, the recognition was almost instant for Aubrey, and the group realized it. “You know him, Aub’s? I don’t remember him from any other gangs in the neighborhood.” Their eyes were full of questions as Aubrey slowly walked towards the pair, moving, if not shoving, Kel out of the way, which he barely had the time to recover.

And then there was Sunny and Aubrey. Star Crossed lovers in her eyes. She immediately dropped her bat to the side and wrapped her arms around him. This was Sunny, her Sunny, and she was happy he was back in her life. It wasn’t as bone-crushing as Kel’s hug a few minutes prior, but the pressure was there enough to make Sunny gasp for air. She eventually let go as he collapsed on the dirt, gasping for fresh air. It was at that point her second-in-command Kim announced what everyone in the group was thinking but didn’t have the guts to say out loud. “Boss, who the hell is he?” It was rare for Aubrey to show emotion other than a bloodthirsty hound, and usually, she would shoot a dirty look at her, but this one was full of pride and life in her eyes. “Friends. This is my husband, Sunny.” Everyone but Kel and the now recovered Basil had their jaw dropped; even the stoic Charlene was confused about this newfound revelation. “You can’t be serious… he looks too weak to be your lover.” Vance was the first one to ask in disbelief, and that was the biggest mistake today as, not a moment later, Aubrey charged at him with the bat on the nail side, barely touching his cheek. “Talk shit about my fiance, and I have no trouble removing you.” Not needing anything to keep them in line, they heard how they had wedded five years ago with an unknown priest (Hero) and a Recorder to make it official. With this newfound news, the gang split up to enjoy the rest of their day since Aubrey wanted to spend as much time as possible with him.

Yet all he gave her was a look of disbelief. He was married to her? When did this happen? And why can’t he remember any of this? He has heard of Vegas Shotgun weddings but wasn't intoxicated as far as he knew, so why can’t he recall any of this? Omori was doing a damn good job suppressing most of his memories around ****, yet this one was too hard to hide. So he just half-assed a scenario with him and Aubrey to be wedded only for some unknown force to take her away. Not as extreme as Basil, but just enough to make ‘him’ get her back. Back to the real world and being pampered by a gang leader, Sunny just looked in disbelief, thinking. ‘What have I gotten myself into…?’ At the very least, two people are very happy.

Chapter Text

10 minutes. All it took was ten minutes and twenty-four seconds for his once comfortable bed prison to be shattered by an athletically tan and talented friend who’s hopelessly addicted to an unholy combination of orange juice and coffee. Following that was a mix of being called a pinkette or a noirette with a weapon at her hip that also doubles as his wife? Don’t get Sunny wrong, he’s more than happy to be someone that finds him important and, to an extent, attractive enough to put a ring on it, but why can’t he remember something so important? It was frustrating how little he could remember before the… the… the reason he locked himself in his bedroom, but all he could do was nod along and hope that his ‘wife’ doesn’t catch notice; something told him that the bat wasn’t just for show. As he was dragged around the street as someone won him in a fair, Aubrey had no intention of letting Sunny leave her sight. The first place of interest was at Jino’s since she could already hear the grumbling of both of their stomachs, and what better way than to re-introduce one of the first places they had visited.

As the happy couple enters, the owner gives a knowing nod to the delinquent boss. “What can I do for you, Aubrey? And who’s this fine gentleman accompanying you this time? Planning to put him in the ranks of your silly friend group?” The Pizza Man didn’t see the duo as a risk despite the leader holding onto a weapon of mass destruction by her side. Aubrey gleefully announced her company as her husband, which turned some heads to how a delinquent can get a lover or feel either pity or jealousy at the semi-mute individual. It didn’t stop Sunny’s face from turning into a shade of red close to a tomato as he soon sat down, and Aubrey pulled out a rewards card from her jacket. The Pizza Man gave a firm nod as of knowing how serious she was since she had only done this on a rare occasion; giving a low whisper towards the part-timer, he nodded in unison and started to perform something big for the happy couple. If the workers were machines, they were in a state of overcharge where they have pushed themselves to the limits, and no less than fifteen minutes later, a ginormous pizza was ‘slammed’ at the couple's table. It was stacked with everything the store had to offer, with one half being cheese, a quarter being filled with Aubrey's favorite toppings, meat lovers supreme, and the rest with Sunny’s favorite topping, juicy pineapple with flakes of ham surrounding it.

The couple didn’t miss a beat as they soon started to take slice after slice having their fill, but something else started to fill them, and it wasn’t the extremely greasy (but tasty) pizza; it was dread. Looking at the remaining pizza, they were already halfway done, yet if either were to take another slice, they would be in a food coma, and Aubrey didn’t want to let go of Sunny, not just yet. That was until Kel came in with a basketball that had seen at least two years of action on his arm and gave a small wave to the couple. “How are you fine folks doing? Didn’t know you were that serious about reintroducing Sunny to one of your best gifts.” Yet on further inspection, it was obvious they were full. So Kel did the second smartest thing today, he sat down on an empty chair and prepared to eat any remaining slices left without hesitation with his ball under his chair. It bothered Aubrey just a bit since this was meant for her and Sunny, but with how frail and thin he looked before seeing him after four years, it was a miracle his stomach could contain so much food; besides, seeing food go to waste made her blood boil, so she was slightly thankful for his intervention.
After a filling meal, the trio planned to leave and had to go elsewhere, but Kel brought something with Aubrey. “So when are you planning on returning Basil’s photo album? You know it’s his, and taking away our memories isn’t make anyone happy.” That caused Aubrey to stop in her tracks before pointing at him with her free hand. It was obvious that she was livid at his statement.

“You have no damn idea of what he did to those photos. He was trying to ‘erase’ **** from them. The time we went on the beach, the days we were at our secret hideout spot, and the time we spent in Sun-Bun’s home to celebrate Christmas. Any time where **** was in the picture, he scribbled over it WITH BLACK MARKER. I REFUSE TO LET A MONSTER RUIN OUR MEMORIES OF ***I!” Sunny didn’t feel well. Maybe it was the pizza catching up to him, but he knew what Aubrey was yelling was causing it. Even when he was within reaching distance of her, the last bit of the sentences caused his stomach to churn, and the best sensation to feel after eating a grand meal, vertigo. The combination of the two was too much for Sunny, and while Kel and Aubrey were arguing, he stumbled onto the newest alleyway and threw up his most recent meal. It saddens him that such delicious food has gone to waste, but bottling it up was never good. After a bit of stumbling out of the alleyway, he looked to see both Kel and Aubrey starting to raise their fists; it bothered him that he could only watch; he was not strong or brave like his friends. Did he even deserve them..?

Shaking his head, he walked, no marched in-between before they got violent. He may think he doesn’t deserve them, but seeing them fight hurts him more than his dreams, at least those are in his mind. Right before either of them took the first swing, Sunny placed himself at the center, pushing them apart as much as possible. Kel was the first to back down. He wasn’t looking for a fight despite bringing up the topic. He just wanted everything to go back to the way it was. It would never happen, but the idea of everyone being happy motivated him. Aubrey cooled down not as fast, but seeing her ‘husband’ in distress saddened her. She’s right to do this, even if her old friend group won’t understand. Who would ruin the moments when the worst they had to deal is a spider crawling on the kitchen table or forgetting to bring an umbrella when it started raining, at least Aubury didn’t complain when Sunny shared his umbrella with her. “S-sorry, Sunny.” “Sorry, Sunshine, I’ll try not to do this again.” He looked at Aubrey and decided to push his luck, he wanted her to give it back, and Aubrey noticed it, yet she didn’t budge. “Sorry Sunny, but he ruined those memories when she was alive. If he ruined another photo… I don’t know what I would do. Besides, removing the marker was harder than it looked. I’ll return it to him when he feels just as guilty for ruining it.” Taking a deep breath, she gave a faint smile. “So what now, Sunshine? Where do you want to go?” Sunny pondered for a bit, but that didn’t take long until a girl in a blue hoodie beckoned for Aubrey to come over.

After a faint whispering match she looked at her husband and frowned. “Sorry Sun Hun, Hooligans business. Kel, take care of him for me, but can you come here just a second, Kel?” Once finishing that statement, she passed her nail bat to Kim, who was still in disbelief that someone so scrawny could take their leader's heart. Kel shuffled forward, ensuring Sunny couldn’t listen to them since traffic started picking up. “If I see a hair gone or a bruise on my man, your ball is going through a woodchipper, hear me Rodriguez. And don’t get me started if he cries, I’ll make sure your life is a living hell if harm comes his way, keep him happy and, most of all, safe, and I’ll give Basil his photobook back if he promises not to ruin any more pictures. Got it?” Kel gave a small nod, not needing his precious ball destroyed or seeing his best friend wounded, and the upside of one of Basil’s belongings returned also sweetened the deal. “Fine fine, but don’t blame me if he gets worried for you.” “Oh, don’t worry Kel, it’s just a meeting.” Kel hated when Aubrey kept whatever she was doing vague, but as long as no one in their old friend group was harmed, he could only be a bystander. With a final farewell, both girls ran away as a bolt of lightning, leaving Kel and Sunny alone. Seeing as there was nothing left to do, they wonder around town. Helping give motivation and support to anyone around. Sunny smiled as Kel said such nice things towards someone with artistic talent. Sunny smiled as, with Kel’s help, he was slowly breaking out of his shell. Now, Sunny wished he had come out sooner of his room.

Chapter 3: Chapter 3

Summary:

Fights and Knives. Not the best thing to experience.

Chapter Text

Giving a small hum, Sunny, with an accompanied party of Kel and Basil, quickly followed suit, mumbling nonsense, according to Kel. Both were able to escort Basil toward his home, where his caretaker and aunt live. The coziness of the many rooms hit Sunny like a bag of bricks, yet he still couldn’t understand why. After a small meal with Polly, the caretaker, he walked in on Basil in his room. With ragged breath and those baby blue eyes turning bloodshot red, he looked at Sunny and couldn’t help but see something shine in his pocket. “S-Sunny… Thank you for coming out, and thank you for coming back to me. But why? Why leave now? These last few years have been painful… but that doesn’t matter. We can make new memories as we promised on that faithful day. Come here… please?” Despite the simple request, it didn’t help that SOMETHING flashed right in front of him; with that, he was headset on booking it elsewhere, yet Basil saw it differently. “Where are you going? Please don’t leave me! You promised Sunny we’ll be together just like before, just before ****...” Before Basil could finish, it was too much for Sunny to handle, so he ripped the door off its hinges (metaphorically). With his disappearance, he didn’t dare look back at Basil as something similar to Sunny’s demons was preparing to swallow Basil whole, yet no one else was aware of them.

Sunny soon ran into Kel, putting on his beaten sneakers and basketball by the door. “Oh, sorry for forgetting about you, Sunny. Let’s get going before it turns dark, yes?” Without needing another reason, the pair bid Polly and Basil farewell, Sunny hoped he was okay, but it was obvious he wasn’t in the right state of mind. As the duo left the house, it was obvious what Kel met getting home quicker. With a gang of faceless goons circling Aubrey, the boys couldn’t help but wonder if this is what Kim mentioned of Hooligang activity, guess whatever peacekeeping objective they had in mind has failed, and now Faraway is a ‘warzone’ of many wooden and metallic weapons on the streets. With the goons circling the leader of the Hooligang, it should’ve been it, yet no one dared to move. As Aubrey taunted and disposed of anyone getting closer to her or her bat, yelling insults or profanities, it seemed this would be a one-sided fight despite the advantage of the massive number. But she didn’t expect either of them to be outside at this time, well maybe Kel but Sunny? Not so much. With her focus divided, the goons followed where she was looking and smiled at their opportunity, with the duo being surrounded. Aubrey fought back, but it was for naught; with their impending doom, Kel flung his ball one last time before it, and he was tossed to the curb; time seemed to stop as Sunny stood alone against people bigger than him and slowly approached him. As the moon slowly started to rise, he remembered something. Not from the past but what he pocketed in the morning. A steak knife. Pulling it out, he didn’t waste his time, slashing at the closest person, which caused everyone else to scatter since it was sharp enough to pierce the skin.

With the supposed war over, Kel scolded Sunny for bringing something so dangerous outside before swiping it away. Kel was thankful for it, but encouraging him to get something more dangerous was a no-go; he didn’t want Sunny to become a gang member. And that would’ve been it if it wasn’t for one person they forgot in a frenzy, and it would’ve stayed that way if she didn’t make her presence well known. “KELLLLL!” This would’ve been the point Kel where Kel focused on his own needs and wants since a nail bat would mess up his beauty at the very least and his life at most; he didn’t need a reminder of the person who was in charge of her current gang. But it didn’t matter. As the noirette was dashing at the pair, she would almost swing at him if it wasn’t for Sunny stepping in the way. With Kel using Sunny as a meatshield, he didn’t waste time explaining why they were here in a rushed tone. “WejustleftBasil’shouse, wedidn’tmeantojoinyetSunnywantedtohelp.Itrieddragginghimawaybutitwastolateand herewearewithSunnypullingaknifeoutofhispocket.” Sunny agreed with the jumbled he had spoken, but it didn’t stop Aubrey from flicking Kel away and checking on Sunny’s body, hoping she didn’t see any wounds on him. Besides the beads of sweat, rapid breath, and beating heart, everything was right as rain.
Aubrey lowered herself to give another hug to him before holding his hand. “Sorry, Sunny… and Kel. I didn’t mean for this to happen.” Giving a loud sigh, she looked at both of them; with Kel unable to fight, she relented as she gave her end of the deal. “Follow, both of you. I’m keeping my end of the deal, but you better make sure flower boy doesn’t ruin another photo, right?”

Unaware of the situation, Sunny tilted his head in confusion before Kel perked up and followed her instructions. After what seemed a short walk, the trio was outside a rundown house; in contrast with all of the surrounding homes, this was the ugly duckling of the bunch, and there wasn’t a good reason for it. “Wait here; I’ll go get it. Some of the photos are still being cleared of the marker. Blame Basil for ruining it.” With a small grumble, she entered the home, with the faint smell of cheap booze reaching both of their noses. Sunny could've sworn he lost his lunch and dinner now if it wasn’t for the sensation of vertigo a few hours ago. All he could be slowly back away from the ever-increasing and nauseous stench. With a dramatic return, she handed the book labeled ‘Basil’s Memories’ to Kel. Opening the book, it contained some polaroids missing from its accompanying text. Aubrey didn’t hide her disdain, as she believed Basil was the one to ruin it. With nothing better to do, Kel placed the book under his arm and bid farewell to the couple. “Don’t keep him to yourself, Aubrey; I plan on walking with him again as soon as possible.” With his fear gone, he dashed home before Aubrey had the chance to fight with him, but she focused on someone more important, the love of her life.

“Can we go to your place, like last time?” It was a simple request, yet Sunny couldn’t say no to her. It wasn’t out of love but fear. He had no reason to since she showed nothing but love and compassion, but he fully understood what he was missing. The sweet and innocent Aubrey he once dreamed up with many platonic scenarios in his dreams was no more. In her place was both a cutthroat and badass leader with just flakes of her past, just enough for anyone growing up with her would notice the sudden change in attitude. Giving a faint nod, the couple slowly made their way to Sunny’s home, and the nostalgia of it hit Aubrey. She was reminiscing about the simpler times when the worst thing on everyone’s mind was finals, random insects, or when Kel hid Mr.Eggplant from her. Either way, it didn’t change what had happened. Now the house full of life was no more, and in its place, a husk of its former self. A sniff came from her before more tears followed; with her bat falling to the ground, all Sunny could only give was a small tug at her sleeve and a hug. He knows he doesn’t remember everything before his self-imprisonment, but he knew doing nothing would worsen things in the long run. Aubrey let that hardened delinquent persona fall, and out came the girl Sunny had a crush on all those years ago; he slowly remembered who she once was and furthered his hug. At the very least, he now remembered to cherish those around him, and those fears he once had were being lifted as if Humphery decided to play around in the ocean than the teens back.

It was a quiet night; it was a peaceful night at Faraway. Yet Sunny still couldn’t sleep. Maybe it was the fact that it was getting quite hot, perhaps it was the fact he couldn’t remove his covers, maybe it was the fact that his wife was sleeping next to him with the bat lying by the side of the bed. Either way, the truth couldn’t be ignored anymore; he was sweating bullets but didn’t want to disrupt his wife. So he waited. He waited for her to leave to do anything, whether to get a midnight snack, use the bathroom, or anything else so he could remove the covers and change into something more comfortable. And with a small scuffle with his clothes, wearing a plain white t-shirt with a pair of comfortable shorts to go along with it, he slept easily. Aubrey soon joined him in dreamland with a kiss on the cheek that turned Sunny red. Even if both dreamed of different things, the couple was more than happy to barely cuddle before sleeping throughout the night. Maybe everything was going to be well? Perhaps this would be a nightmare they finally wake up from. If only she knew the truth of that day.

Chapter Text

As Dreamer’s slumber awakened Omori, he could only worry about what was to come. With the Dreamer leaving his house and embracing the outside, such as touching grass, he knew this ‘run’ through Headspace would be different, all thanks to the delinquent he tied the knot with. He wanted simplicity because there was no harm in walking through a place you know, like the back of your hand, red or not. Now he hopes to have full control, or some third party has punched the Dreamer’s clock. Either way, with a long breath, he gave one last pat to Mewo (the only thing that made him truly happy) before opening the door. He expected to change, and change he got. Now he was the smallest of the group, with Hero barely being taller than Kel. And Aubrey’s outfit and demeanor have done a complete 180. No longer did she have a simple shirt with shorts to match; she was wearing the same get-up from the real world, with the only change being that Mr. Eggplant was slightly ragged, her clothes color was a bit brighter, and she held her bat that looked more intimidating than his simple kitchen knife. Yet that didn’t change her expression towards him. When she saw him, she ditched the card game she was winning and cuddled at the colorless avatar. He was flustered for one of the rare times, yet he kept it to himself, giving a slight push before beckoning everyone to follow him on the ‘search’ for Basil again; today was off to the Sweetheart’s Castle. He wished the Dreamer heard of earplugs since he can’t stand that selfish and obnoxious b****.

“Where to Omori? Let’s meet with Mari if we don’t know where else to explore.” Hero stated the obvious, yet he still followed what he said; as he said, when it comes to simplicity, there’s no fear of what’s to come. Taking a pit stop and having one of Dream Mari’s world-famous cookies, the gang explored every location until they had to venture through the forest; Aubrey showed complete disdain for Basil, yet when pushed on, she gave no further interactions of why’s the case. After going through the ‘Mysterious’ Forest and slaying the centipede-like creature for the utmost billionth, they soon entered the Sprout Mole Village. With everyone’s reaction being relatively the same, with Aubrey just giving a faint shrug and constantly bumping her head with the ceiling along with Kel, everything was going normal. Everything was normally going until they entered the castle. With Sweetheart’s premiere of her show, Aubrey is still jumping with joy with the idea of watching it live after the party mugged a few Lost Moles of their own front-seat tickets. In their defense, they attacked first, so victors went for the spoils.

Either way, with tickets in hand and once the party had gotten their proper setting, the show ran just like Omori remembered, with Snally being a casualty of faulty electrical wiring; for a castle, it has shoddy electrical systems, he admits, or maybe the Dreamer didn’t like Snally in general, oh well. As the party was ready to leave, the same Sprout Mole was looking with great intent with the party. “Pardon me, but can you assist this lowly Mole with something?” The party perked their heads at his request before agreeing to hear what it said. “Thank you, but can one of you follow me and be a contestant in the show? With what’s his face being turned to toasty ash, it’s no fun for the audience to see two moles being chosen from, so why not add a surprise challenger?” As the mole rambled on, Omori was already getting ready for it to pick Hero and go along with it, and soon enough, everything else would go into motion. And he was right on the money if it wasn’t for the moles snooping. “Hero, was it? I would’ve asked for you to join the show, but… with the young lady outside constantly asking and giving you affection, I’m afraid you won’t be able to qualify. As much as I value my life, true love isn’t meant to be separated.” This made Omori flinch in response. With Hero not being picked, who else will draw the short straw? Aubrey won’t do it since her attitude will constantly clash with Sweetheart, and he doesn’t want to know the result. Looking at Kel, he would take all the abuse she dished out on his poor soul and still act like there was no wrong. So obvious he was the replacement, right? Sadly this run made him not only the shortest of the bunch but also got the short straw. “You there, the fine young man with shorts barely above the knees, pale skin, and the possibility of something metallic in your pocket. Would you honor this lonely mole and participate in the contest?” Omori vigorously shook his head against the idea. On the other hand, Aubrey was fighting in her head to either let go of Omori, just for this one bit, to live out her fantasy or not. Reluctantly everyone handed Sunny over to the guards accompanying the lonely mole and carried him to somewhere secluded.

What happened next was the most embarrassing run he has gone through, and that’s up there with drinking liquidated bread for some stranger's approval, but that was a story for another day. With his old clothes gone and replaced with a dapper suit, a walking cane, and a red rose in his chest for some reason, he slowly walked and was escorted onto the stage; it was obvious that he was red in the face, not with shyness but with being completely embarrassed. Hero and Kel were cheering for him while Aubrey regretted letting him go but didn’t mind what she saw as a faint drool mark left from her mouth. Shaking his head as his face was full of jam, Sweetheart made her announcement loud and clear, much to the annoyance of Omori. With the first Sprout Mole eliminated and sent to a fate possibly worse than Blackspace, all he had to do was wait for her to reject him, and the whole plot could go along. He has yet to learn his lesson as Sweetheart circled him as if he was prey while she was the hunter. “Well, what’s your name, sweetie?”

Omori said nothing while shaking off the faint blush on his face. Taking a glimpse towards his party, Aubrey popped a vein while the brothers' cheering stopped while the rest of the audience cheered on for this stranger that already had their princess interest. “Not much for a talker, are you~? That’s fine; I love it when my subjects are great listeners.” She cooed as much as it was possible without pouncing on him. “Well. How would you feel if I was your… lover~?” Omori didn’t need to say anything as in the next five seconds; a chair barely missed Sweetheart’s head; looking back at the audience, there was a fuming Aubrey with Hero and Kel being scared of her to toss them as well, any more accurate, and it could’ve hit her. “KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF OMORI; YOU B****.” Despite the censoring, Omori could clearly tell what she had said. Sweetheart didn’t take kindly towards the thrown item at her, moving her dress just a bit.

“HOW DARE YOU ATTACK SWEETHEART IN HER OWN CASTLE, NO LESS. YOU MEDALING BRATS ARE GOING TO BARE WITNESS OUR WEDDING THEN YOUR EXECUTION. Isn’t that right, dearest Omori~?” It only took a second before he shook his head and slowly walked over towards his party, stepping on a potted plant and then hugging Aubrey by her sides. As much as he wasn’t fond of the new version of the Dreamer’s friend, anything would be better than sitting in a room with Sweetheart, even if it was for seconds. Sweetheart didn’t take to this so kindly as she dramatically posed at the party of four. “OHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOH! I SEE HOW IT IS. NOT ONLY DO YOU PLAN TO MAKE A FOOL OUT OF ME, BUT YOU PLAN TO STEAL THE LOVE OF MY LIFE OHOHOHOHOHOH!” Being the genius she is, Aubrey was getting another chair ready to toss at the self-centered Princess. “YOU MET HIM ONLY A FEW MINUTES AGO; BESIDES, HE’S ALREADY MARRIED.” Putting on a shiny ring with a beautiful monochrome gemstone that holds it together. “TO ME! SO BACK OFF, YOU *****” Omori now had to worry about what his creator was listening to; no teenager should hear these foul words at such a young age. With the profanities out of the way and another missed chair tossed at her, Sweetheart summoned her loyal guards, quickly surrounding and overpowering the team. With the result, they were sent to the same pathway as before. In the darkest parts of the castle. The dungeon. With his suit slightly beaten and wrinkled, he was the first to wake up, followed by Hero, Kel, and Aubrey. Thankfully the guards have yet to place a proper lock on the door. Now all Omori wished was for this to be over and pick up earplugs on the way.

Chapter 5: End of the Second Dream

Summary:

Dresses, Teasing, and Pickles. All nice, but not at once.

Notes:

Gonna be honest; I can't do fight scenes well. Sorry.

Chapter Text

One blink, two blinks, and it was official; Omori started hating this cycle. It was one thing to get rid of his simple outfit; it was another thing to be forced to wear a stylish suit, but even with how spacious the suit is, the unbelievable amount of teasing from his ‘sister,’ from Hero, and from Kel no less! He hated every moment, yet he remained with a pouty face, hoping to pick up his old clothes on the way back to commit some regicide. On the other hand, Aubrey was ecstatic beyond belief that it was hard to change her mood, so that was an issue in and out of combat since she held onto Omori with a near-death grip, planning on doing so unspeakable things once she had the chance to do so. After being pulled out of a pickle and eating some pickles thanks to Mari, the party went along their merry way, with Kel keeping a choir awake enough not to fall asleep mid-performance. With the quick thinking of Hero and Sunny’s help, they could make quick disguises to fool any unsuspecting mole of their true identity. Yet it wasn’t enough to fool some high-armored and ranking moles, yet it was useless since the party overwhelmed them with the power of friendship and the many stabbings from Omori.

Hero was tasked with carefully picking the unnecessary guests out of a crowd of ‘sharply’ dressed moles before the group was immediately sent toward the dungeon, thanks to Sweetheart’s dress code. Aubrey ‘smashed’ a glass statue of Captain Space Ex-Boyfriend as it was replaced with another Sweetheart statue mirroring the first pose. Omori helped bake two cakes, with the first chef so incompetent that it died thanks to its mistakes, while the following chef just ‘shrugged’ its plant stem before congratulating him. With all the tasks done, the party and many other moles explored the gardens of the castle, and it would’ve been a good time if not for the lasers, followed by Aubrey smashing it into a fine marble paste. After intimidating one of the royal guards, bribing another with tofu, and deceiving the remaining two, Omori faintly whispered the answer, which the statue gave an obnoxious laugh before slowly sliding away, which led back to the starting place of this awful trip. Omori was about to get ready for the fight, yet it bothered him that his original outfit was nowhere to be found, either discarded or, more likely, thorn to shreds by Sweetheart or her minions; thankfully, no one in his party questioned the Breadphones he was wearing. Yet it was awfully quiet.
Looking at the people following him, all he saw was Aubrey. There was no banter between her and Kel, and Hero wasn’t there to limit the supposed banter. It didn’t take long for Aubrey to comment on it. “Don’t worry, deary; they are just stuck doing more tasks. So it’s just you and me~.” The delinquent persona dropped, showing the one he was used to before the Dreamer left his home. He gave a faint nod before trying to open the trapdoor, yet there Aubrey stood, admiring what was around them. Some gifts, scraps of food, rusted weaponry, and the one that made her eyes shine like jewelry—a simple wedding dress.

Aubrey looked around before noticing the only two entrances and decided to do something devious. “Omori,” she rang; he did not like where this was going. “Can you be a dear and step outside for a moment?” He shook his head before walking in between the dress and her. “Come on. You are already sharply dressed for a wedding, so… why not I am as well? Besides, you're making me feel lonely unless…” She stopped briefly before her cheeks flared up a deep shade of red. “I didn’t take you as someone who would watch…~” Omori really had to wonder and worry about what was going on in his head besides the many adventures in Headspace because this was out of character for him. Sighing in defeat, he gave one last look at her as she placed her bat against the wall and undid her hair. What followed suit was unknown to him since he stays away from that information. Tapping his foot in annoyance, he wondered where the brothers were since there really shouldn’t be another place of interest. Yet, he couldn’t care since this dream would soon be over more quickly, and he hoped everything would restart again. It didn’t take long for his focus to be shifted elsewhere as he was pulled from his thoughts, and there stood his ‘wife.’ Wearing a simple but beautiful wedding dress with the themes of white and pink, his jaw dropped briefly before he fixed himself. He isn’t going to stoop that low; he will remain as strong as possible until the moving day. He was trying to convince himself that, yet he was failing that miserably before he slowly walked forward, pocketing his knife and hugging Aubrey. As much as he hated these new emotions, he was a part of the Dreamer, so he gave in to temptation, besides if no one is there, then there’s no shame in having their five minutes of heaven. So off they went somewhere more appropriate for their attire. To the ballroom for the happy couple they went.

Kel was sweating buckets as the head of the choir informed him of another band to perform. He has been working double time to ensure this group worked just as well, if not even more, and he was at his limit. Looking over at the crowd of Sprout Moles, he was also starting to get sleepy since the music was tailored for dancing or sleeping the night away, yet he persisted and finally got the job done. After all of that, he returned to where Mari was, where she gave a faint giggle. “Oh, Kel, you must be so tired; here some spare Jelly that my adorable little brother didn’t eat.” He wordlessly took some and scarfed it down just as fast. Since there wasn’t much to do, he stayed put before Hero came by and collapsed on the picnic blanket. All he could produce was a groan and a slow shuffle as he rested his head on Mari’s lap; he would’ve heard her shock if he wasn’t drained of JUICE while working alongside more chefs. Some Moles thought of eating Omori’s hard work, and Hero was ordered to replace it before someone noticed its disappearance. This wouldn’t be a problem if Hero were working with his party or someone who could understand orders. But these Sprout Moles he was working with had neither, so all that went to waste since mass panic was written over their heads. Exhausted and drained of the will to leave the embrace of his girlfriend, all he could do was take a nap while Mari peppered him with kisses, and Kel looked in disgust as he soon returned the favor once he woke up.
“So… Where are Omori and Aubrey? As much as I trust Aubrey to protect him from danger, I worry she might… You know what I’m referring to, right Hero?” While Kel was left in the dark, Hero gave a faint nod before sitting up and snacking on a jam sandwich. “So this is where you will ask us to search for Aubrey and Omori?” “That’s right, Kel. Now go get my brother so I can tease him more!” Despite her cheerful tone, he could hear something behind it, yet he dashed ahead to scout for the two. “No brother of mine will get the best of me, hmph.” “Come on, Mari; they started dating a few ***** ago. Or are you telling me that you're jealous of him?” Giving a pouty look, Mari looked away to try to hide her slight embarrassment. “Alright, I’ll go look for him but ease on the teasing, okay, Mari?” She didn’t have a chance to respond as he kissed her on the cheek before running off to catch up with Kel. She sighed; the color from her face and outfit were flushed, replacing the simple school uniform she once wore with a white dress below her knees. “If only it were that simple, Henry, if only it were.”

OMORIIIIIIIIIIIII, AUBREYYYY. WHERE ARE YOUUUUUU?” Kel was looking around the castle, searching for the happy couple, yet to no avail. Even with Hero’s help, the search was hopeless as there was no one in sight, no mole either, yet on their way back towards Mari, they could only see moles and three figures by the center of the dancefloor. Aubrey and Omori fought off Sweetheart while she constantly boasted of her status. As it was too late to resolve it peacefully, Kel took the initiative to slam his trusty ball into her back, causing her to lose her balance while Hero rushed over to the pair and healed any wounds. “OHOHOHOHOHOH. ASSASSINS, I SEE. NO MATTER, I’LL LOCK ALL OF YOU AWAY AND HAVE OMORI ALL FOR MYSELF! OHOHOHOHOH!” As her laughter increased, much to Omori’s annoyance, and the speed of the mace also increased, Aubrey couldn’t help but escalate the fight even more. “OVER MY DEAD BODY, YOU ****! YOU’RE NEVER TAKING MY SUNSHINE AWAY!” As the fighting escalated on and on, and not even her most loyal guards stepped in to support her or act as meat shields, eventually, the party made her take a knee. “THIS ISN’T RIGHT, EVERYONE LOVES SWEETHEART. YOU are SUPPOSED TO DO AS I COMMAND, NOT DISOBEY YOUR QUEEN, OBEY YOU FOOLS.” As Omori walked over to do the finishing blow, he looked around. He saw the brothers laying on the floor, collapsed as any energy that was once with them was gone, while Aubrey’s wedding dress was ruined as there were new holes in it thanks to the mace ripping bits of it off. Now it looked more like a skirt, but it still didn’t change who she was; dress or not, this was Aubrey, and he couldn’t help but smile as she was stunning. Looking at himself with a shattered mirror nearby, his suit was in dire need of repair since there were as many holes, if not more. Yet it didn’t change what had happened. Taking the knife, he gripped it and plunged it toward her. Sweetheart, unable to do anything, accepted her fate. Yet the plunge never came. With the ceiling collapsing and a familiar spaceship making a quick stop, all Omori could only walk backward as the rest of the dream played out with Space Boyfriend marrying Sweetheart on the spot. And so it was declared as any remaining Sprout Mole that didn’t pass out or pass away thanks to the rubble or fight cheered as their ruler found love once more. And everything went as clockwork with the ‘couple’ leaving the spaceship, and seeing as there was no harm and since his time was almost up, why not indulge himself just a bit more? As the music again picked up (with the help of Tofu), Aubrey and Omori danced until the dreamer woke up. Maybe this wasn’t so bad after all, he thought before waking up in White Space and plunging the knife into his chest to start the next day.

Sunny woke up and gave a slight stretch; seeing as the bat with nails was by the bed, he assumed his wife was there. Hearing and smelling something sizzling downstairs confirms it. After tip-toeing his way down and ignoring any spiders that may pick up residence, he didn’t hesitate to hug her. Aubrey yelped in response before placing her spatula down and returning the favor. Today was a good day; they could feel it. “Good morning, Sunshine~. Did you sleep well?”

Chapter Text

Waking up was always a chore for Aubrey. Even before being married to her childhood crush, the bed she slept in at home was, at the best of times, covered in water or smelled like some poor animal passed away from it and, at worst, covered with shards of glass from the bottles her father tossed or fungus started growing on the mattress itself. So it was one thing that her darling Sunny and the rest of the friend group came into her life and made the burden of an abusive father and a now absent mother. From sharing meals, learning very quickly how to patch up minor cuts and hide bruises, the countless times they shared a nice and warm bed to cuddle in, the many treats Mari and Hero have made for everyone, the polaroids Basil’s camera has captured. All this was paradise, and the thought of it being broken would’ve broken her, let alone anyone in the friend group.

Yet on the day of the recital, everything changed as Basil and Sunny were staring at Mari. The loving big sister anyone could’ve ever asked for. The person that teased her and Sunny’s not-so-secret relationship for months on end. The one who made them officially married. She was hanging with no life between those once lively eyes. As Basil mumbled many words, a mile per millisecond, some would say, with the only thing being understandable, was “everything is going to be okay.” Sunny mirrored Mari’s eyes as any life that was once seen was nowhere, as if his pupils were gone, as if the surrounding blackness of his eye absorbed it. Even if he was alive, his look mirrored the one in front of everyone. Kel couldn’t handle the sight and promptly passed out of shock and would’ve hit the grass hard if it wasn’t for Henry. Yet he looked sick as tears quickly started to follow his eyes. After the police were involved with an accompanying paramedic declaring the obvious, the waterworks did their job, and everyone shared a group cry, with Henry and Sunny crying the most. After that horrible day, everything went from bad to worse. Sunny started to come less and less to school, Henry shut himself off, Basil was much more shifty than usual, and Kel was just trying to smile through the pain, but how he felt was apparent. All Aubrey could do was endure, and she did so with her once cheerful smile replaced with a blank scowl. All she could do was hope and pray as things hopefully get better; they never did.

This was all in the past, a horrible past with so many good memories attached to it. Shaking her head, she lifted herself off the plain but very comfortable bed; she tiptoed her way off the bed to see if anything was available to cook, not just for her but for her beloved Sunny. And what’s a partner if they can’t cook for their special someone at all? Opening the fridge, she sighed as steak was the only thing remotely available to cook. Fishing around her jean skirt, she smiled with glee as there was enough to buy a carton of eggs, some fresh bread, and maybe some bacon to go with it. Yet she hesitated before leaving home. She didn’t have the keys to enter back, and if she tried to enter without it, it wouldn’t take long for the law to knock the door down. So she scavenged all she could, searching every bit of the house to see where any spare key was stored.

At last, she checked the vacant rooms, ignoring the closet as storing anything inside besides old clothes would be pointless. Once entering the next room, she recoils at what she sees. A picnic basket with a blanket inside of it as well. Shoving her tears aside and after seeing what’s inside every drawer without taking anything valuable, she finally has an extra set of keys. Looking at the clock mounted on the wall, she smiled. Eight in the morning, her love usually wakes at nine and a quarter, so she fist pumps and wastes no time to leave. But not before she tiptoes back into the room and gives a small peck at Sunny’s cheek; both turn bright red as Aubrey heads to the store while Sunny and his vessel give a small smile to it.

Othermart was usually a rowdy place as soon the residents of Faraway Town came here to work, buy, browse, or do anything else that came to mind. For Aubrey, she wasn’t here to cause chaos. That could wait as her lover was possibly waiting for her to return; she knew how clingy he could be, so she couldn’t skip a beat as she dashed towards the isles where the eggs and bits of bacon were stored. Grabbing what she needs while avoiding those judgmental gazes for anyone she has met in Mass. After seeing Miss Candice get slightly annoyed as more of her candy had gone ‘missing,’ she immediately left towards the cashier to avoid being caught in the crossfire of what her members had been doing behind her back. Even if it were to fix their craze, she would rather deal with almost anyone than Miss Candice’s wrath and tone. Packing the eggs at the bottom with the bacon bits in the center and the warm bread above all else, she waved at her cashier, who just shrugged before doing the same for someone else. Aubrey didn’t want to waste any time since it was only a matter of time before both products spoiled, the summer wind was nice and cool, but all it took was an intense exposure to the sun or the bag being knocked out of her hand for all of this to be for naught. Looking at the street where the big ‘gang’ was fought, there was no evidence of it ever happening except for a few wooden swords already run over by morning traffic. Sighing at the sight, she rushed back to Sunny’s home to prepare a filling meal for the both of them. It didn’t take long for her to return, yet it didn’t mean it was peaceful as someone she knew and respected was by the doorstep. Wearing her familiar blue hoodie and dusty red glasses there, Kim sat.

“Boss, I may not know the whole story between you and knife kid, but this is too much, don’t you think? You said he left you for four years, yet here you are sucking up to him as if you had a lover’s quarrel the night before.” This agitated Aubrey as her eyebrow was raised in anger, if not annoyance; Kim continued despite being very weary of her best friend's condition. “I’m not here to ask you to break up; I don’t want to end up in a ditch like the last one, but please, consider who he is now. Someone doesn’t stay the same for nearly half of a decade; if they have, it’s never for the best. And if this all happens to be true love and I’m way over my head, then I’ll give you and whatever his nam-”

“His name is Sunny.” Aubrey interrupted her with a vein sticking out of her forehead. Kim gulped at how even she wasn’t free from her leader’s wrath, but she didn’t blame her; she did something for the sake of love in elementary; it was embarrassing, and she won’t hear the end of it from Vance unless he’s full of taffy. “Sunny and you a late wedding gift, courtesy of demon operating the candy station.” With a sigh, Kim sat up and patted Aubrey’s back, and left to find her brother while Aubrey fished for the spare keys to open the door. With a slight creak, Aubrey entered and rushed to make breakfast; almost anyone could get behind.

Once Sunny woke up from his dream world, all he could do was roll around in bed with bashfulness written all over his face. Why did he imagine him and Aubrey properly wedded? Why did they storm the castle? And why did he feel hollow inside despite all its happy and adorable nature? Shacking that feeling of dread from his head, he focused his attention on something much better. The sound of eggs and bacon sizzling, the scent of perfectly toasted bread in the air, his wife nowhere to be seen. This got him to connect the dots, slowly leading him down the stairs. He didn’t even notice any arachnids on the way down as he saw what he believed was heaven. At Aubrey’s side, some plastic bags and cracked eggshells in the garbage can, a roll of bread cut through the middle and cut in half for both of them. And at the oven, two frying pans; one for the eggs that have turned a beautiful sunny side up and some strips and bits of bacon. Aubrey paid full attention to the eggs and bacon, not noticing that someone was nearby.

Seeing it as an opportunity to thank her for yesterday and mimicking what Omori had done, he did his best trying to alert her, doing his best to get the jump on her, and to his surprise, it was with great success. Seeing his chance right in front of him, Sunny threw caution to the window and wrapped his arms around Aubrey; adding on that stunt, he gave a slight hum to show he was happy for this moment. In retaliation, Aubrey yelped out in surprise and almost spilled some of the eggs before realizing who it was. A small smile approached her face as she cooed at her lover. “Hold on, Sunny, breakfast is almost ready. Can you help me set down some plates, will you?” Following the request, he did so what he was told to. Placing the plates by the kitchen counter, he also had the foresight to prepare the chairs, with both being pulled out by the dining room. Soon enough, the food was ready; placing eggs and bacon inside the bread and giving it a small press to ensure none of it ever dropped, Aubrey smiled in delight, a warm meal that didn’t come from a can or bag of junk food—carefully placing both sandwiches on the plates and carrying it towards the table which Sunny has prepared. Setting down their meals and Aubrey giving a quick hug in return, both ate silently. It was a filly, somewhat unhealthy, but most importantly, warm and filled with love and whatever powders the bakers had put in to keep the business booming. After all that and cleaning the plates, the day was off to a great start, and Aubrey would’ve kept Sunny to herself, but something, or better yet, someone, was coming their way. With a faint knock on the door, they both knew who it was.

Chapter Text

Kel always had a simple life; he didn’t have to worry much compared to everyone else. Since his mind was always filled with sports, its equipment related to it, teasing, if not joking around, burgers, and most importantly, those he considers family and friends. And that stayed that way when he, alongside his big brother and parents, entered the neighborhood in Faraway. And it stayed that way, even after meeting Mari, even after being introduced to Sunny, even after making friends with Aubrey, Basil, and those in his school. And it would’ve stayed something among the lines of a kid from a small time town competing with massive leagues around the country, yet on the day of the recital, it ground everything to a halt. After everyone grieved in their way, Kel was in a pickle; he hated both the situation and the food. He saw many paths opening and closing, yet he chose the safest one possible; he wore a smile to keep spirits high even if he wanted to vent; he couldn’t, at least not in front of those he loved. Yet Hero locked himself away, then Sunny, then Aubrey joined, then led a gang, and Basil looks like he needs anything to make sure his nerves don’t fall over and die. Wearing this mask was challenging, yet he couldn’t complain about the results.

Taking a deep breath, he waved toward his family during breakfast before eating some toast on his way out. But only after he received a list to wrap around his basketball twice; was he on his way to meet his friend, and he was excited. Giving a quick peak towards his childhood friend’s house, he couldn’t help but smile; seeing Aubrey and Sunny hug something out warmed his heart. Yet as charming as it was, being a peeping tom wasn’t on his ‘to-do’ list. Bracing himself for the best and worst, setting his ball to the side, he rapidly knocked on the door, making damn sure that at least Aubrey heard it. He winced as he could already hear Aubrey charging at the door, so he embraced for whatever was to come.

“What is it?!” Aubrey silently yelled at Kel without realizing it was him, she had reasonable suspicion for who it was, but it’s never a good thing to jump the gun; a crowbar is. “Shit, sorry.” Taking a deep breath, Aubrey looked up at him more relaxedly. “So, whatcha need?” Kel said nothing, just pointed at the background where Sunny was; he gave a small wave towards Kel while Aubrey just slowly closed the door, and she would’ve gotten away with it if Kel’s ball wasn’t in the way. “No way, you had him all day yesterday. It’s my turn to have him.” “And because of you and your gang warfare from the nearby neighborhood, we didn’t spend enough time together because of that.” It was getting close to becoming another argument before both of them not noticing a slight tug at both of their hands; it was Sunny holding onto them. Giving a little nudge, all three walk around together once Sunny puts on a pair of shoes and another set of clothes since walking around town in his PJs is frowned upon; eventually, both give in and follow Sunny to wherever he pleases.

From odd jobs with the pizzeria to tutoring a child while his wife and a great friend stood over and watched just like a tiny peanut gallery, only correcting him once, being introduced to Cris, which Aubrey gripped on the side of the door hinges in response. She asks for three clams which would be easy if the town was located next to the sea, and last time Kel and Aubrey checked, the nearest beach was an hour's drive away, so this would be tough. Saying farewell to her, the trio sat at one of the benches at the park where only children were currently, no other Hooligans, no Basil, just children playing around, cult members, and the homeless at the sides of it. Yet Aubrey was more melancholy than before, which didn’t escape Sunny’s eyes. He looked over and pulled on her sleeve, hoping for a response, and he got one. “Sorry, sorry, it’s just that I didn’t go to meet ***i again. Can I-no we go together? You to Kel, it’s been a while since we talked with her, so why not do it together?” There was the sensation again for Sunny, yet he held on; he put all he could muster to FOCUS, and that sensation washed away; it didn’t take long before Aubrey grabbed his hand and started walking towards the church; he didn’t hear the whole conversation, but he didn’t mind, he was still in awe at how someone so badass was his lover so he went along.

Mass was quiet. The preacher said his holy words while everyone in the pews listened with varying interests. The doors to the church were open to everyone, sinners, non-believers, devoted, and so on. It was halfway into the church when three teens entered. The members of the church whispered amongst themselves when they saw two teens in shorts and another in a skirt; they said rude things about the girl with pink hair holding onto her nail bat; they were worried about what the kid having her hand and what was going to happen, and they were confused about why the last one was following along the pair. Yet, no one moved; everyone just watched and whispered until the preacher continued, letting the three enter the graveyard.

The graveyard was quiet. The trio and a stranger holding onto a rake were the only things alive while everyone else was fast asleep, never to be awoken again. The trio slowly walked over, making damn sure they didn’t step on top of anyone. And soon enough, Aubrey, Kel, and Sunny saw it. With a white orchid placed in front of a tombstone, there lay Mari. The monument said, "OUR DEAREST MARI; THE SUN SHINED BRIGHTER WHEN SHE WAS HERE." The trio took their chance and talked to her; Aubrey went first, saying her peace, followed by Kel, saying how everyone was managing even if Hero was struck the hardest, then it was Sunny’s turn. Yet Sunny said nothing; all he did was just stared at her older sister's tombstone. She wasn’t in college; she was sleeping not in a comfortable bed but in a place where every man, woman, and child will one day be. He couldn’t help himself, but he shed a few tears. From sadness and his mind is clouded with mystery. How could he forget about this? Why can’t he remember his sister’s passing? What happened in those last few years..?

It didn’t take long before he felt something across his sides. There was Aubrey, holding onto him with dear life. There was Kel, mirroring Aubrey but not knowing his true strength. And for a split second, he could feel someone else on his back. Still, the pressure between his wife and friend was too much, so to cut some of this tension, he took a page from the almighty Maverik and dramatically gasped for air which Kel let go almost immediately, Aubrey not so much, but he didn’t mind it, he loved her hugs. Soon enough, the bells rang, signifying to everyone that Mass had ended; a few members of Mass came in and walked toward a grave to pay their respects, ignoring anyone else. As it was already an hour past noon, the trio left soon after, with Aubrey carrying her bat and Kel with his ball. It wasn’t till long before Aubrey noticed something hanging from Kel’s pocket.

“Hey, Kel?” Aubrey spoke first. “Yes?” “What’s that hanging from your pocket? Seems like a long list. Did your mom give you that?” It didn’t take long before fear was put into Kel’s heart, and Aubrey gave a victorious smirk at him; Kel looked around to see what time it was, wincing as if he had an hour to spare. “Guess you’ll have him for an hour, don’t do anything stupid now!” He said it in a teasing matter after getting a head start; even if the bond between them was getting better, he still didn’t like the look of the bat one bit, and he knew how much she could do in one swing, especially when she wants you ‘gone.’ As Kel retreated to do his massive list of chores, Aubrey was left fuming with how beat red she was while Sunny only had his ears glow red. Shacking the huge blush from her face, she smiled a bit; she had one hour to do anything with Sunny without that blockhead around and interrupting any moment. Yet something else hit her just as hard. “Bun-Bun…” was all she said before latching onto Sunny’s hand and dragging him back towards her home.

Aubrey made a slight hum towards herself while she rushed home, hoping she was fast enough to feed her rabbit just as quickly. She loved Sunny to a fault, but Bun-Bun needed just as much, if not more, attention since her meal was stored in a drawer. “Sorry Sun-Bun, but Bun-Bun needs her food just as much as you need, my love.” It didn’t dawn on her of the nickname, but she still went about it while Sunny was re-introduced to a new shade of red across her face. Once the pair reached her decrepit home, Aubrey fished for her keys and unlocked the door; Sunny wasn’t looking forward to the scent, but at least he wasn’t as complete as before. “Come on, Sunny, would you like to meet her too? She’s just adorable, but nothing will beat you.” Seeing as there was no harm besides the stench coming from inside, he followed her, wincing as if what was inside was the cause or a big reason for the stench he could’ve smelled outside. Bottles, crushed cans, cigarette butts, and anything that would fit in a commercial of substance abuse were on full display, it made Sunny sick, and Aubrey just showed a face of disgust with a woman facing a T.V. turned on, but only white static was shown. Aubrey didn’t waste much time as she pulled him away from the ‘living’ room.

Following her, they soon made it to the bottom of a ladder with faint scribbles written on it, it had faded thanks to time, but the words ‘Aubrey’s Room’ were readable with an arrow pointing upwards. Sunny flinched a bit since what he saw was miles upwards when in reality, it was a few yards upwards, CALMING DOWN then FOCUSING on what he saw what was really in front of him. Taking a deep breath, he put one hand forward, then another, making his accent into his wife’s room; soon enough, she entered. Once he could look around, he felt a small pang hit his heart. This room was the best thing to admire in this whole house, an unmade bed, a poster of Captain Spaceboy, a picture frame of Aubrey and the girl in the blue hoodie and what he was greeted to first when entering, a beady eye rabbit with fur white as snow. Aubrey didn’t wait to get her meal as she closed the hatch behind her and opened the cage to let Bun-Bun jump around in relative peace and, most of all, eat her late breakfast/early dinner. Aubrey cooed as Bun-Bun sniffed her food before chowing down. Sunny couldn’t help but kneel down and gently press and give small pats all over Bun-Bun, her reaction was neutral until she finished her meal, and she gave a death stare worthy of rivaling the Grim Reaper. Hoping mad, she went over to Sunny and gave a piece of her mind by jumping towards his head and resting on top of him, not planning to leave any time soon. Aubrey snickered lightly until she laughed loudly while Sunny tilted his head in confusion, making sure not to make himself or Bun-Bun fall. It was an eventful afternoon alright

Chapter Text

Sunny started to wonder about many things about his life. What happened, why did it happen, and the biggest of them all, when Bun-Bun will leave the top of his head? It was one thing to be flustered at his wife’s pet rabbit to be on top of him and her bellowing a lively laugh which he didn’t mind; she needed it. But that was the only silver lining of this situation; any attempt he made to get rid of her, all he was met with was her wrath as she hoped around his scalp, making very sure he didn’t get a firm grip on her. It didn’t help that his wife just kept on laughing in his dismay, but eventually, she stopped and pulled out a small treat to entrance Bun-Bun. Taking the bait, she hopped off Sunny’s head and jumped into Aubrey’s warm embrace, nibbling away at whatever she gave her. Once enough time was passed, Aubrey let go of Bun-Bun, and she just hopped all over the room at her pace. Thankfully she never returned to Sunny’s head, or else he would’ve lost it. Being content with her energy being used up, she calmly hopped on Sunny’s head once more before jumping off, beating whatever reaction he had for her, and returned to her pen, where she curled up and napped. It was apparent how Sunny felt with a faint aura or red washing over his body, yet he didn’t act on it. Aubrey still laughed as she leaned over, wrapped her arms around him, and gave a small peck towards Sunny’s cheek, which made him glow red for a completely different reason.

“Hey, Sunny?” Sunny looked up at her, still in awe at her beauty, and gave a slight hum in response. “Can we go back to your house again tonight unless you want to cuddle right now? If it wasn’t for ‘someone’ to interrupt us, that is…” It was apparent who she was referring to, yet Sunny shook his head; he wanted to explore more of Faraway before returning home. Quietly mumbling the word “Explore” to her, she smiled as she opened up the hatch, giving another kiss to Bun-Bun, and lowered herself back down. Sunny winced as the smell reached above, yet he skimmed over something just as important. Polaroids. The ones that looked missing from Basil’s Memory book, yet it was still faded with some black substances written all over it. He tried to pick one up, yet Aubrey was tired of waiting, peaking her head up and giving a sad look. “These are Mari's pictures, Sunny. The marker hasn’t faded yet, so please don’t touch it, at least not now please.” Recoiling from her response, he leaned forward to read whatever was written on it, yet he saw nothing as the marker was covering whatever was written. Joining his wife as quickly as possible without making a hole through the floor, he followed her footsteps, avoiding eye contact with whoever was still staring at the TV.

Once exiting the decrepit house, they were greeted by the sight of a group that Aubrey was all too familiar with, a second friend group she saw them as—the Hooligans. Sunny tilted his head in confusion before a lightbulb popped up above Aubrey’s head; clearing her throat, she smiled as she was getting ready to introduce the gang since, to Sunny, they seemed like a group of misfits willing to do anything to help themselves. “Sunny, I would like to introduce you to my gang, the Hooligans, to be precise.” She was beaming with energy that he didn’t see moments ago but didn’t mind. As long as she was happy, he was just as delighted. Get ready to introduce the smallest of the group; Angel stood up before her leader could say a word. “Sup kid, names Angel. And this is my master, the Maverick.” The guy with an obvious wig on his head, a sloppy dress shirt, and small earplugs around his neck greeted Sunny loudly. “I may not see what our boss see’s in you… but I sware if you were to become MY student, I’LL…” He didn’t dare finish that statement as those once blue eyes in Aubrey flashed bright red, the grip on her bat increased, and worst of all, she was using a stance that meant she was going to use the nails on her bat. “On second thought, maybe you need to learn to improve yourself, kid… hehe…” It didn’t take long for him to wither back in fear. The gang knew why it happened but didn’t dare to support him; you don’t mess with the boss's love life and live to tell the tale.

As the tension was in the air, one of the other members gave a slight cough, stepping up to take the center of attention. “Hey there, Sunny, right? Names Vance and my sister and I share a love for candy, especially Taffy, have any of that by any chance?” Shaking his head in response, Vance sighed before snacking on candy from his shirt pocket before continuing. “Sorry for what I said last day; I didn’t mean to offend and didn’t know you caught our boss's heart. Here’s hoping I can make it up in any way; either way, that’s enough about me. Say hi to my little sis, Kim.” Without warning, he pushed her in front of him. She grumbled a bit before clearing her throat, trying to think what else to say even though what she had stated earlier today. “Sup Sunny, name’s Kim. Aubrey’s right-hand lady, if you would, for the Hooligans and its activities. Just like my brother has stated, we have a love for sweets, especially taffy. I don’t know what else to say other than, don’t you dare break her heart, or I’ll break your spine.” And just like that, the once fading tensions raised again with that vague threat, yet Kim wasn’t bothered by her boss's glare, at least on the outside. Soon enough, the last and tallest member said her name and nothing else about it, and that’s when Angel jumped in again. “Oh, don’t mind her; she’s shy, like you, Sunny. Don’t let her looks scare you; she wouldn’t dare to hurt you.” With a faint nod, she nodded and hummed in response. Soon enough, the gang huddled around Aubrey, asking what’s the plan for today.

It didn’t take long for an idea to come up as most people’s stomachs started to rumble, making everyone react sheepishly. “Guess we’re having lunch now, but I like to think of something else instead of pizza. Is that okay with everyone?” With everyone coming to an agreement, they all started brainstorming ideas of where or what to eat. The concept of pizza was still in the back of everyone’s mind, yet just because you love to eat a particular food; there’s always a risk of starting to lose that spark for the things or food you once loved. Thankfully everyone still loved the sweet flavor of cheese, so hamburgers were the thing everyone agreed with. Angel, Mikhael, and Vance were practically salivating at how these burgers would taste while Kim brought up the obvious. “Faraway doesn’t have that kind of diner, and besides, we don’t have a grill to even start, so burgers were off the table.” With this realization, morale dropped to an all-time lore before another lightbulb came up, but not from anyone in the gang, but from Sunny himself. Pulling on Aubrey’s hand, she focused on him. “What is it Sun-Bun? Have another idea of what to eat?” While everyone besides Sunny recoiled at how soft-spoken she was talking to him, all he did was point at his house and motion a skillet in his free hand, almost as if he was planning to smack someone with it like in a cartoon. It took Aubrey to catch onto his idea before coming to another roadblock. “But we don’t have the money for anything; let’s just think of something else.” And that’s when Sunny pulled his ace in the hole—the money from all the odd jobs from yesterday and today. At the very least, this would feed the gang and almost anyone else joining. “You sure? I’m happy your thinking for us, but we can look for other solutions.” Standing his ground, he nodded along furiously, taking her hand and walking towards the market. The quiet kid’s actions take everyone aback. They all followed along, if not for the promise of food, then for their curiosity about what he had in store for everyone.

Kel was having anything but a good time since he was up against one of the few things he didn’t enjoy, his patience or lack thereof, to begin with, him. There was a massive line between him and the bakery, and he knew well enough that skipping or trying to would be met with the wrath of those currently in line and security. Taking a deep breath, he looked around, tapped his foot on the floor, and waited. And he waited. And he waited some more, for goodness sake. Yet he was tired of it. He was so tired that he didn’t realize a band of teens entering the store. He didn’t know the bubble gum hair color or a malnourished teen was among their ranks. All he cared about was getting the bread his mother tasked him to get so he could take back Sunny so they could hang out again, maybe play Pet Rocks again or talk to Basil again; that also sounds just as nice. Finally, after the mindnumbing experience of five minutes had passed, he could pick up his order from the Baker’s Family. Giving a small wave towards them before leaving, he only notices seven people going at once with patties, buns, condiments, and drinks. He shrugged again, knowing it was Aubrey’s crew, yet he didn’t remember Sunny being involved… It didn’t take long before Kel jumped the gun and rushed towards the group, this must be a kidnapping in public, but no one will stop them. Time for Kel to be the hero this time!

“So… who knows how to cook a patty?” Kim said out loud for her fellow gang members; the MAVERICK raised his hand but was quickly shot down. “You can’t cook crap for Mikhael. Besides, isn’t your whole family shtick cooking bread?” “I won’t be joining that business, not one bit. I, the MAVERICK, know what’s right for me and ME ALONE!” It didn’t take long for everyone to start looking around the kitchen for anything to help prepare this meal. Thankfully a COOKBOOK was behind the covers, covered in dust, and the colors faded away. Wiping the dust and looking through the pages, the gang gasped as they finally found what they were looking for. Angel took the book and stationed it nearby the stove, ensuring it was close enough to read but not too close to burn up. Charlene took up the mantle to cook the patties as her arm lengths were long enough to reduce the risk of burns. Kim and Vance prepared the patties, making sure all were as even as possible to make sure everyone got an even number. The Maverick did all he could without getting in the way, which was saying much.

All Sunny and Aubrey did was prepare the plates for the food to come soon and resist the urge to cuddle on the couch. Aubrey wanted to salvage any bit of her tough badass persona, but ever since Sunny came back, that came shattering down; if it were anyone else, she would’ve been livid. Sunny was the sole exception because he saw her at her highest and lowest when Mari was once with them; now, she rests in heaven, and the group has been split. All she can hope is that Mari will understand despite what she has done. Sitting by the couch, she pulled Sunny in for a hug, and he returned it; she couldn’t care what others thought if they saw them. They were friends, family, partners, and lovers; nothing would separate them. Nothing will ever cause a wedge between their love, right?

Notes:

Honestly, I'm happy I'm improving. Or at least I think I am. Kudos, comments, and all that would be appreciated. Best of fortunes, strangers. Oh, and I returned to IDV (If you don't know what it is, keep your innocence). In my first game back, I got called a slur in a different language. Feels good to be back at the manor. :D

Chapter Text

The smell of meat was in the air as much as there was love for childhood friends. As Charlene paid great attention to the patties, she flipped them with an expression that she had been doing this for a long time, as if she was born to be a burger flipper in one of those fancy dinners or at a restaurant that definitely has nothing shady going on. Angel and his master were facing Kim and her brother on a board game they found lying around one of the shelves, sure some pieces were missing, but that’s when imagination, a rule book, and the playing cards dictated what was to come, whether it be heaven or hell for either side. Sunny and Aubrey were neck deep into each other’s embrace, cuddling as much as possible without raising the story's age rating to something the writer can’t do. Overall, it was a peaceful afternoon with the food soon to be cooked and any condiments such as leftover lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, and anything else Sunny’s working fridge had left.

And it would’ve been that way if it wasn’t for a knock on the door; sighing, everyone besides Charlene said, “Not it/me.” Leaving Sunny to be the one to open the door. He was almost dragged back into the warm embrace of his wife but still went on. Kim, seeing this slightly, felt slightly bad about how she first made contact with him; maybe he was the right one. Minute after minute, something felt off to the gang; Aubrey knows it doesn’t take that long for anyone, mainly Sunny, since he doesn’t do well with talking to strangers. After another minute of her husband's absence, she grumbled a bit before getting up to see what was taking him so long. Only to be horrified as no one was in sight, and the door was left wide open for anyone to take her sunshine away. It led to the realization that she had dreaded all these years; he’s been kidnapped!

Letting out a warcry loud enough for everyone in the home to notice her distress, she rallied her members. At the same time, the burgers were safely placed in a safe container, away from any bugs intervening or for the elements to ruin their quality. “Alright, gang, listen up because I’m going to say this once. Find Sunny as soon as possible, and if you find his kidnapper, give him the Hooligan special and bring them here for me. The prize for doing both!” She slams down another coupon from Jino’s and something half off at the supermarket. Without any more motivation, the gang splits to search for Sunny and their prize. All Aubrey did was go back upstairs to brandish her bat, peeling off some of the stickers since it was already fading, and she got a new idea with the box of nails and a rusty hammer nearby.

Sunny was a bit confused, but his shoes were on, so it wasn’t bad being taken from his home. He wanted to free himself, but the grip on his kidnapper was far tighter than he had ever imagined. Looking at him, he hummed in response at the sight of orange shorts and shirt combo with a paper trail being easily seen by his pockets. Kel had really outdone himself, but since he was barely strong enough to combat this sportsman, he just looked around to find his way back; it also helped that he had his keys, so at best, he could walk back home and pretend that this was a bad joke, at worst he has to drastic measures and Kel’s shin’s look just easy enough to reach. Once the runner had finally let go of Sunny, followed by a small ‘Ooff,’ he looked around everywhere and shuddered at where he was at. With a basket filled with a blue picnic blanket inside it, a pier with cool water, a flower pot with an egret orchid occupying it, and a tiny island with a tree on top. He knew the significance of it; it was where he proposed to her. Since this was such a private place, no one would be the wiser of what embarrassing thing he did, he was grateful he could remember a memory of Aubrey, but he still had to wonder why he couldn’t remember the rest. Before slowly walking away from the basketball player, he heard the rustling of some shrubs and bushes and out popped a familiar blonde gardener.

Vance sighed in annoyance at his task, but the boss’s rule was absolute; ignoring it or going against it was a death wish. But it wasn’t the reason for his search. The prize she waved around everyone’s face like a freshly cooked steak in front of a den of hungry lions salivated his mind. If the pizza wasn’t on his mind, he knew what the Candy Demon’s worker would love to have, and she wouldn’t mind tossing a nice pile of taffy his way for a big pizza, the size barely smaller than a single table at Jino’s. He scanned the market and let out a grunt as no one of interest was seen beside a blonde violin player, a red-headed dancer, and a boom-box playing a cheerful song that suddenly got somber, but what was helpful was that they attracted quite a crowd. No one Kim’s height was in there. So she deduced that whoever took away Sunny was elsewhere; no one heard a car, so they must’ve left on foot.

Kim grumbled as much as an annoyance as nothing could be seen in the neighboring neighborhoods. The only thing of interest was a party of six people wearing extravagant costumes, with the smallest being carried by the tallest, someone who definitely dyed his hair white was chatting to a blonde woman with a gleaming coin in her hand, leaving a redhead constantly pushing herself onto a noirette. At the same time, his face was as red as the lady's hair. Overall, they would’ve fit if they were in a convention of sorts or maybe Halloween; they would’ve killed it or at least taken the top spots. Either way, it didn’t take long for the shortest one to notice her. “Hey, lady!” she yelled with excitement in her voice. “Are you looking for someone, or are you shocked at our style~?” Grumbling a bit, the guy carrying her put her down slowly, which she didn’t take kindly as she smacked his back lightly; the remaining four giggled as they were back to their antics again. Shaking her head, Kim approached the six to talk to them. “S-sorry for staring, but can I ask you a question?” The silver-haired person stepped up, and Kim assumed he must be the leader of the bunch. “Sure, Miss; what do you need to know?” “Have you seen a teen, barely taller than me, dragged around anywhere? He has black hair, a black vest, and beige-colored shorts.” He gave a small hum in response before shaking his head, he turned his head towards his companions, and they pondered a bit before the noirette spoke. “ I believe I saw him with someone else; they ran fast. I couldn't tell where they went, but I think I saw them heading up the road, hope it helps.” The redhead attached to the noirette spoke up, hinting at a small but teasing smile. “Why would you like to know? Is he special to you~?” Kim grumbled at this before responding. “No, but to my boss, he is, and she can’t wait to get her hands on his abductor. Thank you, and sorry for taking your time.” And with that, Kim ran the other way, up the street. The party of six shrugged their shoulders before the smallest one quickly climbed back to the tallest back, smiling in contentment. “Where to Alo?” The silver-haired person said. The person shrugged before some members' stomachs rumbled, checking their pockets. They all agreed to get something to eat before going elsewhere.

Angel and his master had no luck since where they had gone was a wasteland or what can be considered one, as there was a mountain of machinery and tools for such. They believed Sunny and whoever his abductor was must’ve been here since no ordinary child would go here without good evidence, yet after talking and failing to appeal to any of the workers, they left to go back to the park to unwind a bit. And they would've returned empty-handed if they didn't see a meek blonde teen enter their hideout. Whatever his name is, it was vital since he knew about it. But an idea created up his head; as much as he looked at his work across his lawn, he knew he was strong despite his stature. Working with that many flowers, shovels, and other gardening equipment, he knew he was just too much of a nervous wreck to be considered a threat. But what if he's holding back? What if he didn't want to harm his old friend… Stopping Angel from charging straight first of what can be seen as a suicide mission, the almighty MAVERICK nudged his head toward his boss's lover's house. If she hasn't left, she can quickly rally the members back, maybe he and Angel can share the prize, but that's when Sunny is back in his boss's hands. Looking around to see if anyone was of interest, all they could see was some girl painting, some homeless people in the background, a few people chanting the benefits of recycling while wearing bins over their heads, and a man in a white suit sitting nearby a blonde lady who is also sharply dressed. Both of them are holding sewing equipment, and right next to them are what seem like dolls of each other. The figure of a small girl with blonde hair, wearing a white dress, a carefree smile, and button for eyes, next to the man and a boy with a green cap and a simple outfit with the same smile as the female's doll. As much as he wanted to talk for any information, he felt he wouldn't get their attention no matter how hard he tried. Grabbing Angel's hand, the duo left to inform the boss of their findings, hoping they were spot on.

Aubrey was tapping her foot with as much annoyance as she could produce without shattering the walls or the floor of her husband's house. Charlene was there patting her back, hoping to calm her down, and while there was some success, she couldn't seem to make her put her bat down, which now had nailed all over the edge with the remains of the faded stickers barely noticeable since nails are much easier to notice. And before she scowled some more, someone was at the door, giving it a hardy knock to get their attention. Aubrey went up to the door without the bat in hand; she felt Sunny wasn't the one knocking, but if he was, all she could do was wince as his lover had now 'improved' her weapon of choice.

Opening the door, she sighed as if it was the brother of her right-hand girl, Vance. "Sorry boss, nothing on from me. But I can confirm that he isn't nearby the shopping plaza, no sight in Gino's, the market, Fix-it, or anywhere else." He held his head in shame, expecting to be punished for his lack of performance. "Sorry, boss, please take it easy on me." With a sigh, Aubrey lifted her hand and barely tapped the back of his head with how little force she put into this 'punishment.' "Your good, Vance; any information is still useful. Let's just hope everyone else has found something or someone of interest." As soon as Vance sat down, his stomach grumbled more; looking at the pair, he got up and prepared his burger. Yes, the patty was no longer hot but still filled with whatever condiments he added. After a few more minutes and the trio started playing a game of One, another knock came from the front door, this time with more force; Aubrey left her bat and went to the door to reveal her best of friends, Kim. Before she could say anything, her stomach rumbled just as much, so without saying much, she prepared her burger, washing her hands first before evening starting to touch any of the food. With a glass of apple juice to go with the burger, she told all she could after her meal. "Sorry, Aubrey, I couldn't find your man. But what was odd was that six people dressed up as if tomorrow was Halloween. It might be a rival gang in the future… Either way, I'm getting sidetracked; they told me that whoever took Sunny they weren't in the neighborhood, so unless whoever took him ran at the speed of light, he isn't inside any house. Once again, sorry for not assisting much." With her head held out in shame, Aubrey mimicked what she did to her brother, barely tapping her head with her hand. Now there were four members back at home base; Charlene excused herself to get some fresh air before opening up to see Angel and THE MAVERICK in the flesh, just a few moments away from knocking on the door; stepping aside for the duo, they didn't say much before slowly walking over to eat their burger. Once done, Angel stepped aside before his master fulfilled everyone with the juicy details. “None of the construction workers saw him or anyone interested, my fair lady.” Taking a knee as if he was to propose, he continued to ramble on with pointless details until the last bit. “I saw the blonde gardener walk into our turf; I think he might know more than he let off.” Aubrey let that sink in before heading to the door with the bat in hand. It was obvious how she felt as she was seething with rage, and her gang followed her as closely as possible. “If Basil thinks he can take my husband away from me, I’m going to make sure that he’s going to feel every flower he ever has planted; he’s going under!” And just like that, the leader of the Hooligan was on a warpath with her members by her side.

Gonna be honest, this was supposed to be posted way earlier, but I got invited to a nice and fancy manor. The books over there are a bit unnerving, but it's all fiction, right? If you get any references, you get a cookie.

Chapter Text

At a young age, Basil had no ill will toward anyone; he loved everyone at best, and at his worst, he tolerated some specific folks, whether it was around town or wherever he lived while under the care of his father and mother. But there was one thing he hated and was afraid of. He never wanted to be alone, but his timidness was the only thing to reach out to anyone; even the bullies at school were at least some company, better than nothing. So to his shock, a girl with slightly rugged clothes picked him up; as if she was a gift from the heavens, she helped him reach out. And not just her; soon enough, he met many people and friends. It was paradise, a real reason to smile instead of masking it. And with this newfound energy, he focussed on botany with his grandmother; he smiled like never before, almost as if those sunny days were upon him and his new friend group; for once, nothing was there to worry about; for once, he could be happy.

Then the recital came, then the days leading up to him. Sunny looked just as dead as he once did those years ago; those lonely years were dreadful, and Basil wanted to do anything to help. But even with his friendship, the best and only thing he could see was the faint markings on his fingertips; if Sunny’s hands had been delicate before, then it was easy to see that he had shed blood before. Those violin lessons were challenging, Basil knows this, but it was a sensitive topic, so all he could do was mildly tease him with the plastic ring by his hand. Since Mari and Hero could use the hideout as a make-shift to stage a wedding, it was hard not to see the happy couple so photogenic; keeping a separate album for them was easy. Many moments of them smiling, blushing, and cuddling; with this much cuteness bundled together, all Basil could do was find a way to weaponize it, and then nothing will bother him for a long time… As the sun went down, Basil gave one last hug and the most recent copies of the happy couple playing on the playground in a small bag; all Sunny could do in response was turn as red as the setting sun; how fitting. Either way, with a fond farewell, he waves back, hoping to see the performance live tonight. It would be a big day; he could just feel it. Checking his pockets once returning home, he sighed as his keys were in the bag, so, dashing to the Suzuki house, he knocked on the door, hoping to get his keys back. At least he was right with one thing; it would be a big day tonight…

Waking up, Basil felt sick. He was supposed to be happy. But all he felt was sick. Looking around, he picked up his gardening sheers; they were stainless steel blades with extra thick grips for both hands. With these blades alone, he had taken the lives of many wilting flowers out of their misery and the occasional parasite when he had the hindsight to do so. Placing the blades in front of him, he could only shutter before putting them away. “Now’s not the right time…grandma wouldn’t want that…” Looking around him, besides everything having some form of life around him, he seems to lack it. Looking into his bedroom, he finally saw what was keeping him down, his own demon slowly surrounding him. At first, it was just a black abyss, but soon it grew a single eye, then a simple pair of teeth, and soon it became sharper than anything Basil had seen before. He knows it’s getting closer and closer, but all he can do is endure. But at the very least, he can smile, knowing Sunny finally exited his house. Trying to shove the fear away and coming with his pair of gardening sheers he looked forward to today. With the fresh smell of tofu in the air, he can only hope to hang out with Sunny, just like those good old days.

“So, what are you planning to do today? You seem a lot happier than… yesterday.” His caretaker spoke out, Polly was a bit worried about his mood change, but all she could do was be by his side, supporting any healthy lifestyle choices. Shaking his head, he explained his goals, talking to Sunny and doing their best to make up all that lost time. “Aww, that’s so sweet of you. You better come home before five in the afternoon. I plan to make something special for you and your grandmother; I know you’ll love it.” “Alright, Miss Polly, I’ll be back by sundown.” Polly could only smile at his enthusiasm before patting his head, letting him go as she went to attend to the elder in her room; she grimaced at the fact that it didn’t take a medical student to realize that her days were numbered and even then she looked like she’ll quill over in a few days if not hours.

Shaking her fears away, she was still determined to do her job; that’s why she was paid in the first place. Basil was much more cheerful than the last few days since there was no sight of his tormentors; he could finally meet up with Sunny. At least that was his hope since he didn’t know if Aubrey would even be by his side; that idea didn’t even cross his mind until he was getting closer and closer to the doorstep; he wanted to knock on the door, but that good feeling soon went away once he saw someone leave from it, that familiar bubblegum colored hair was recognizable immediately, making a quiet yelp he dived straight into the bushes, hoping she didn’t see him. Peeking from the bushes, he noticed that she was smiling, but not as one of those you know when you have your picture taken, but one where you were hiding something; she was manic and in deep thought. The idea made him shudder at what she could’ve done to Sunny, but since she wasn’t covered in a fine red liquid, all he could do was hope that he was okay, if not alive. As soon as Aubrey left, he took his chances at the door, sighing as it was locked. Of course, it would be. Looking around, he wished he had taken that book from Kel all about lockpicking all those years ago. Looking around, he still smiled. As long as Sunny was happy, he could admire from a distance, hoping that one day this dark secret could die with each other. And soon enough, he took off to reflect on what else to do.

After a short walk to the park and a shorter one to the particular spot, he sat nearby the water with his shoes barely touching the water; nearly four years ago, something big happened here. There was food, laughter, and some music, but most of all, there were smiles. He remembered taking the photo of both soon-to-be husband and bride; he remembered the look of Sunny, smiling ear to ear; he remembered Aubrey’s face, full of joy as she wore one of Mari’s old white dresses. He recalled that almost everyone was involved. He remembered Henry’s family coming in to congratulate the happy couple, they were more teasing than Mari, but it wasn’t as impactful. He remembered Sunny’s mother coming in to take some pictures herself. The only people absent were Aubrey’s parents and Sunny’s father, but they didn’t mind; this was a special day for Sunny and Aubrey, a day no one could forget. He remembered being the flower boy and the photographer; he was just thankful he could get a stand to photograph all that had happened. Sighing, all he could do was reminisce about that special day; he was about to return to Sunny’s home and try again to get Sunny; that was the plan until he turned around to hear the faint sound of bushes being ruffled. His paranoia spiked up as he had a feeling of who was on the other side, walking forward, away from the pier. He hoped it wasn’t a member of the Hooligans, let alone their leader. But a tanned figure showed up instead, Kel. And he wasn’t alone as the man of the hour was underneath his shoulder, Sunny.

As Kel ‘carefully’ placed Sunny on the ground, he gave a bright smile to put the sun to shame. Taking a deep breath, he lifted his hand to show a peace sign at him. “Sup, how ya been, Basil?” “Kel?! What are you doing here? And why did you bring Sunny along? Isn’t he supposed to be with Aubrey?” That anxiety was starting to flare up once again as the thought of meeting his bullies was causing him to look around in a frenzy. Yet Kel spoke up before his rapid breath caught up with him. “Relax, Aubrey can’t be that crazed about him; I’m sure she wouldn’t mind spending time with her friends. Besides, we deserve some time with him, don’t you agree?” Basil would respond if he weren’t thinking a mile a minute before sighing, walking over to the blue picnic blanket, and sitting by it. Don’t get him wrong, seeing his best friend/partner in crime back, but that blasted day repeatedly repeated, the feeling of dread never disappears. Only a hug brought him back to his senses, not by Kel but Sunny himself. Raising his head, he only saw the malnourished teen do his best to comfort him; it wasn’t much, but anything was better than having a panic attack. Kel sat on the grass while the two share a moment, picking up his ball and tossing it to play with himself. Little did he know that in this calm state, he slowly laid down, enjoying the scent of fresh grass, the water source nearby, the used basket, and the surprisingly clean blanket. He took all of it in, breathing slowly; for once, he felt at peace.

Kel joined the fun as time passed, placing his ball right next to the basket, kicking off his sneakers, and napping. They were smiling in their sleep; even the quietest Sunny could be seen with a faint smile across his mouth. What were they dreaming about? Who knows exactly, but it made the three happy. Soon enough, everyone woke up. With a faint yawn coming from Sunny, a few stretches by Kel, and shaking off any bit of slumber remaining by Basil, everything was going well; both of them couldn’t believe it. At that point, a loud cough could be heard from the entrance of the hideout spot. Turning his head, Basil’s slight smile was shattered as his daytime torment stood—the Hooligans with a furious Aubrey at the front of them. Looking at what she was holding onto, he shuddered much more in fear as there were no stickers on the wooden bat anymore, only nails. Looking around, all he saw was the members slowly surrounding him and Kel. He knew they were here for Sunny. “C-can I say my peace..?” It was apparent how nervous Basil was as his legs almost collapsed under him; looking around again, the scooter gang closed any open gaps to escape. Aubrey was an emotional ticking timebomb as she aimed the bat at the dirt, placing both hands on the handle. “Say it, quick.” Despite how little there was in her voice, a fire raged on. It was enough to cause Sunny to step back in fear as well. Taking a deep breath, Kel spoke out before Basil took his chance. “I took Sunny away.” Some of the Hooligans nodded at the confession before he continued onwards. “Basil was already here before I dropped Sunny here; as you could see, we took a nap and chatted before taking said nap. Nothing more; check him if you don’t believe me, Aubrey. You had him for nearly five hours; it’s not fair you're hogging him to yourself, wife or not. Sunny is still my and Basil’s best friend.” And with that, silence came from her, her grip on the baseball bat tightening.

Thankfully I had some spare time to write bit by bit of this chapter; finals are kicking my ass. Once more, best of fortunes to all of you fine folks; the manor visit was pleasant; I have a nice and shiny badge to commemorate how blood-drunk I am.

Aubrey wanted to counter that statement; she wanted to lift her bat as if it was Excalibar and cut the fools for getting between her and Sunny; she wanted to make sure no one ever got in the way of her and Sunny. She saw red, full of rage and jealousy; she quickly scanned the area around her. Around the trio of teens in front of her were her new friends, the gang she commanded with a gentle hand. They all look sad, besides Mikhael, since he has wanted an excuse to throw down with Kel ever since. She wanted to bash their heads in with the hilt of the bat, but she couldn’t. She has to accept the reality that she’s in. But seeing Basil made her blood boil. “Everyone out, I want to… talk with them.” Aubrey tried her best to conceal her rage, yet it didn’t take long for her old and new friends to figure it out. It caused Angel to shudder at what was to come; it caused Kim and her brother to look at her with worry, as she did in the morning; it caused Charlene to raise an eyebrow at her. Silence took over until someone spoke out;

Kim slowly walked into the trio and carefully grabbed Sunny’s hand, giving a faint nod at Kel with a faint ‘Trust me’ heard from her. “You promise just to talk?” Aubrey nodded, her gaze fixated on her husband, just tilting his head in confusion. “Then give me your bat. You won’t need it if you're just talking to them.” Looking at Sunny, Kim gave him a small nudge at him before pushing in front of him. Grumbling lightly, he pulled him back into earshot. ‘Take her bat.’ Sunny did was he was commanded to do, holding out his arms for the nail bat. Aubrey knew she wouldn’t win this, especially since her best friend, of all people, was using Sunny against her; oh, she’ll pay for sure. She sighed as Aubrey carefully placed her bat’s handle by his hand, and Sunny walked to the picnic basket and sat on it, looking as innocent as ever if it wasn’t for the weapon in his hand. “I’m also assuming this talk is meant for these two, right?” She pointed at both teens, slowly regaining their cool as the situation de-escalated. Aubrey nodded again, cursing how her best friend was so good at this. “Then we’ll give you privacy, okay, boss?” It didn’t take long before the Hooligans left without their boss. The MAVERICK and Angel were bummed out about how no fighting will be done, but their attitude changed as the second in command glared at him as if she was Medusa, which quickly kept them both in line. Vance stayed behind just as Charlene soon walked over to ride away into the exit with her scouter in hand. And soon, both brother and sister left the old friend group behind, giving a faint wave at their boss, hoping that Aubrey doesn’t take the bat from her ‘husbands’ hands and nails the blonde or brunette with the nails.

And then, there were four people remaining in the area. Aubrey wanted to say something to them, yet nothing came to mind. She wanted to yell, but who should she yell at? Kel, the kid who wanted to hang out with Sunny again because it was one of the few times he left his home, let alone his room, after Mari's death. The kid who always shined brighter than the sun. She had nothing to yell at him besides how he constantly teased her about her not-so-hidden relationship with Sunny when the worst thing that could've happened was a pop quiz from her history teacher. Turning her attention to Basil, she wanted to yell twice as much at him, and unlike Kel, she had a damn good reason to do so. Yet she couldn't. Not when Sunny was around. She hated Basil with all her will, yet doing it in front of Sunny was as good as blaming him that he killed her. So threats wouldn't work at all.

She wanted to fight them but with what? Even with her two hands, she has a fighting chance with Kel, but with Basil involved? All it'll take is one well-placed distraction, and either can do the finishing blow on her. She wanted to vent her frustrations, and yet, nothing happened. She collapsed onto the ground, with tears slowly filling her vision. She was mad, and yet she couldn’t vent it out without using violence. Right?

Henry was having a rough day. Not only was the first bus to Faraway destroyed by random troublemakers in the city his college was, the next one was two things he couldn’t stand. It was cramped, and it made the smell of spoiled Orange Joe seem divine in comparison. And yet he still boarded it since this was one of the few buses back home; he promised his mother that he’d be there before night and would be damned. The only thing keeping this trip back home bearable was the Walkman he was listening to, filled with many kinds of music that, while it expanded his taste in music, he was still too lazy to remove since sometimes it did scratch an itch he had been missing for a long time. Looking to his left, he smiled at what he was seeing; as the city slowly grew shorter and shorter as the vehicle kept moving, he could finally return to what he knew best. Faraway. How quiet it was, how everything was so peaceful, and yet he knew he really couldn’t rest well. Returning to Faraway was and always be a double-edged sword. With one side holding so many memories with his brother, with his friends in high school, and learning to cook so well, he almost made a business go under, especially the memories he made with Mari. And with the other, her death, his shouting match, and his scars made him reconsider not going to begin with. It still shook him to the core of how bad of a boyfriend he was; it was all too good to be true, there was always something wrong, and now, he was to help her late as now she was six feet under, resting somewhere much safer. And yet he can never forget that day when everything changed, all for the worse. He was shaking like a leaf, and even his fellow passengers were wondering what a man like him was crying over, and yet no one helped him. Hero was alone, just like those times alone, while the bus carried on.

Soon enough, the bus finally made it to the last stop. Looking around, Henry sighed as he finally recovered from his relapse. As he was the last to leave with everyone else already off the bus, he followed suit, carrying his bag full of clothes, a few textbooks filled to the brim with notes, and any trash he had as the trip was long and hard. As he was to leave the bus, the driver gave him a small nod; it wasn’t a kind greeting; it was filled with understanding. “Take care, sir. Hopefully, you can take care of whatever you have to do here.” Taken aback, Hero nodded along and gave a small smile, thanking the driver. Soon enough, he got off the bus; it drove off to another part of the town. Taking a deep breath, finally free from the horrible smell of the bus, he can finally enjoy the fresh air in the town. Looking around, he couldn’t help but smile at a group of six waiting at the same bus stop he just left; they were in deep conversation, so interrupting them was unlikely. Looking elsewhere, he saw more people talking, running, enjoying some ice cream, and anything else that came to mind. Maybe today could be a day where he was at peace. With nothing else in mind, he headed home to where everyone would be, especially his baby sister, whom he wished he had more time with.

Once there, he gave a big hug to his mother, a handshake to his father, and played with his sister ever so slightly since she was in the midst of dozing off. He wanted to spend the rest of the day here in his bed. Yet laying in bed was too boring for him, so with wanderlust in his heart, he picked up his walkman again with a set of keys and wallet and headed off to wherever he wanted. His mother was just a bit against it, but it was too late for her as he gave a wave and left to return in just a matter of an hour. It wasn’t long until Hector pounced on him, almost knocking the wind out of Henry, yet he persisted Walking at his pace, he looked around the neighborhood, waving at any unfamiliar faces as he did. And yet it pained him when he walked in front of their home. He wanted to reminisce on his late lover and depressed brother from another mother, but it won’t end well, he assumes. Shaking his head, he went on onwards, not realizing that the door was still open for anyone or thing to enter. As he entered the market to buy himself something sweet to distract himself from any other horrible memories, he couldn’t help but smile at the bread makers at the shop. Daphne and Bowen were hard at work as always, and he couldn’t help but smile at their dedication to take over the bakery when the time came. After a small chat and him walking out of the store with a few chocolate bars in his hand, he went straight to the park to unwind as much as he could. And he would’ve gotten the chance if he hadn’t heard of an ever so familiar voice. “What are you doing, Aubrey?!”

Chapter Text

Getting up, Henry looked around for any signs of Kel. Looking towards his left, he was greeted with more trees, bushes, and children running around. Looking to his right, he was greeted by the newly formed Recycultist waving their banner while chanting their slogan. Some part of him wanted to join, just within, wearing that silly bin over his head. Shaking his head at something unimportant, Henry focused on where the voice possibly came from. Walking towards the hideout entrance he used to frequent many years ago, he could see it was already disturbed as faint footprints were marked on the ground. Taking this as solid evidence, he headed in that direction, not knowing what could possibly be waiting for him on the other end. After pushing through a few branches, he hoped it wasn’t a spider crawling on the tree, and a few rusted cans with it being opened up as if it was a pumpkin; thankfully, he could step on it without trouble. Once reaching the end of the pathway, all he could do was watch as someone with pink hair was at the pier on her knees with a face distraught as his brother was confronting her on what she had just done; if he had been just a bit sooner, he would’ve seen the water move ever so slightly.

A few moments earlier, Aubrey announced her answer to the duo. She was at her limit with seeing Basil. And so she approached him with fury in her eyes. Basil stood up, trying to walk away, but he couldn’t. Aubrey was before him, and not even Kel could push her away. She was done seeing someone as sick as him in her sights, how he wasn’t there to help her, how he ruined the polaroids he once took pride in. She didn’t want to see him and made it clear with gripped hands. Sunny just tilted his head in confusion. He wanted to step in, but something didn’t feel right with him, not to mention he could do nothing but watch as something he feared was just a few feet away from him. The depths of the water may be shallow to some, but to Sunny, he could easily drown in it, so he isn’t taking his chances, besides the blanket he was sitting on was just as comfy as… as if it was yesterday when he was with everyone. Kel did his best, but it was useless as Aubrey and Basil were slowly inching closer to the end of the pier, with Basil barely a few feet away from falling backward. No one knew he could swim, but it didn’t stop Aubrey from lashing out repeatedly. And just like that, one simple shove was enough to risk his life.

“WHAT ARE YOU DOING, AUBREY?!” Kel shrieked at the top of his lungs, the panic was written all over both of their faces, but he was first to act to do anything. And yet, he couldn’t. He wanted to ensure Aubrey atoned for what she did, but who would save Basil? And what about the inverse? If he went to rescue Basil, who would stop her from running? Sun- Not a second later, he heard a second splash to the nearby source of water, and since there wasn’t a massive boulder to fall in, it only led him to know the truth of what Sunny just did. Looking back to where he was once seated, all left was an imprint of where he was once seated and the nail bat that was Aubrey.

It was cold; it was getting darker and darker as Sunny slowly descended into the shall depths. He thinks that opening his eyes isn’t an option as the water he is taking in wouldn’t be good for his eyes. He tried to breathe, but the water went through his nose and soon entered his lungs. Panic soon started to overcome his body as the basic need for human survival started to kick in him. And yet he couldn’t. He couldn’t escape this as something attached itself to his leg. Briefly looking at it, it was something alright; the figure had no problem dragging Sunny further down into the depths of the water. Sunny forced his leg to move wildly, but it was no use. As his strength dwindled, all he could do was slowly accept the outcome, his death… and yet he didn’t let it happen. He couldn’t let that happen. How else would Aubrey feel as if she was left alone once again? How would Kel feel if he never returned to the surface again? How would Mari feel if he met her too soon..? And with his resolve confirmed, he fought back Something, not by swinging and kicking wildly, not by taking more water into his body. He had learned to PERSIST. Soon enough, the darkness faded away, and he didn’t see it anymore.

A figure was above him. It soon covered his vision. They wore a white dress that reached towards the knees. Taking his opportunity, he reached for their hand; almost anything would be better than to drown. And slowly, they ascended to the surface. Once up there, Sunny gasped for the sweet release of air. Looking around, he could see Kel worried out of his mind as he couldn’t stand still for a second. He could see Aubrey practically on the verge of tears, with her rapid breath louder by the second. And right next to him, he saw that the blonde he went to rescue was by his side. Did he do it? It didn’t take long before he looked at the new figure next to him; he was as tall as Kel with slightly better hair and a small smile as if he was relieved. The next thing on his mind was lots of coughing since some water was in his system. After recovering from it, he finally took another look at his hero. Tilting his head in confusion, he didn’t know who he was until Kel said his name. “Hero!” He rushed over to hug him. He regained his composure to give another nod to Hero, real name Henry, but he likes being called Hero for his heroic attitude and his love for sandwiches.

Slowly getting up before coughing up the rest of the water in his system, his blood runs cold as Basil is as unresponsive as ever. Giving a soft poke to his sides, he was thankful as there was a reaction, or at least a reaction a living person would make instead of a soon-to-be corpse. Basil wasn’t in the best condition, mostly because where water shouldn’t be is there instead of fresh air. It was a disaster, but he was living, so that was a silver lining. “Let’s bring him back home; his caretaker knows what to do.” Kel took command as Hero nodded along. And both of them went towards his house; Sunny wanted to follow but not before looking back at Aubrey one last time. She was shivering at what had happened. Some tears did fall off, but not enough to warrant a full breakdown. She wasn’t even aware if Sunny was nearby; she just needed time to process everything. So Sunny did what he believed was best; they were husband and wife, after all. This was the best thing he could do, as it was the only thing he could do.

Both brothers, with the unconscious gardener, soon came to Basil’s home. With a knock on the door, she looked distraught at the sight of how Basil was. He was soaked to the bone, with his clothes clinging onto him as if he ran a marathon through the hottest hell could offer. He was barely conscious, but at the very least, he could hear parts of the conversation. “...bath…a fire…rest until…rise.” It was useless as his consciousness was fading, and soon enough, he fell deep into his little dream world. Once waking up, he saw it. He saw a better time. A time when no one was sad. A time when everyone was happy, and there was no trouble. A time when he could truly be happy didn’t need to wear a mask to hide his insecurities, and his pain could disappear. He wore what he loved, a simple shirt, simple shorts, and a few flowers over his hair. Everything had color and life except for his eyes. They were soulless. But it didn’t change the fact that where he was, it was paradise. And finally, after many grueling days, nights, weeks, months, and years alone. The whole gang was back together. On his left, he saw Kel sitting beside Aubrey and Sunny, joking with the happy couple as they were hand in hand. Turning to the right, he saw Hero and Mari discussing their future together. Of how much they would love and support each other to the very end. And right next to him were his grandmother and his caretaker. While Miss Polly smiled as cheerfully as possible, his grandmother smiled somberly. She was getting old and as frail as you could be without a strong wind knocking her down.

It didn’t take much before this paradise crumbled away. With Mari disappearing in front of everyone, panic set its course as Hero fell to his knees, begging to see her again. Looking around, Aubrey was looking at him but not full of cheer and wonder. It was a face full of disgust as she walked away from him with her fists fully clenched. Kel followed suit, not out of any other emotion other than confusion. Soon Polly left, wearing that small smile; she was just there to do the job, nothing else. Then Sunny looked at him, the same dead-eye look he had when it happened when SOMETHING was born. It didn’t take long before all that was left was his grandmother. Before he could do anything, whether it was a cry for help or begging her to stay by his side, all she could do was hold onto him, a soft hug, a warmth he never felt before. It didn’t take long for a faint but very noticeable sound to be heard in the background—the sound of a flatline. And then, there was nothing as Basil felt something he feared. All alone. No friends, no family, no one. Just him and his demons.

Sitting next to her, Sunny couldn’t help but comfort Aurbey as best as he could. And yet it was all for naught as she couldn’t help but cry. She was a bumbling mess as he couldn’t understand her words. He could’ve left her behind, especially since he had a good reason to. His clothes were still wet, and the risk of sickness increased, with the sun slowly falling and night coming soon. Yet he couldn’t care; he stayed as close as possible to her without being overbearing. He had to ensure she was watched to ensure she didn’t do anything rash. “...Sunny?” What he didn’t take into account was how tired he was. And so, after giving one last hug to her, he leaned over her and promptly passed out. Aubrey jumped from her stupor and checked on him. Since no one would likely come over to check on both of them, she did the best thing she could do. She carried him back home with one hand under his knees and the other on his back, leaving her bat behind.

Chapter Text

As the Dreamer succumbed to his lack of energy during the day, Omori woke up to take his place. Getting up from the center of his eggshell-white-colored room, he could only walk towards all items he was close to. Checking the laptop, he could only wince as there was a change instead of it repeating the same message over and over again. It held small quips and comments about what had happened. His views on his wife’s friends. How scary it was to ‘skinny dip’ in the water. How he wished he could’ve eaten his burger before falling asleep. At the very least, he can observe this and make this land more tailored to him, ensuring he doesn’t leave at all. He left the room with his knife by his side, petting Mewo all she needed to be content.

Walking into the Neighbor’s Room, he was ready to be pounced on by anyone, especially Aubrey. And yet, nothing. Actually, no one was there. The only living being was the snake that offered him his allowance of Clams. Crawling out of the tree stump, he went to the park where everyone else was; he saw no one. Not even the bright and big blue mailbox, and he always took the chance to make a fortune. Something wasn’t right. Arming himself with his sharp dagger, he scanned the area. He looked between the bushes at the many toys placed around the playground, carefully poking at the sand to ensure there wasn’t anything to consume him in one gulp. Nothing. His investigation left him with nothing to look into anymore. The only thing that remained in place was the floating mirror. Looking into it, he sighed as there was no one but himself; he imagined the best thing he could do was play Hide-and-Seek, but what’s the point if he’s finding himself while doing the same thing over and over again, unlike this loop which was necessary for the Dreamer. Heading further into the playground, he saw a dense fog at one of the exits. He left the area because it would be risky to go down there. The entrances towards the forest and the big ladder were also covered in dense fog, so the only way forward was north, where the big body of water lay. Looking around the land before taking another step forward, he spotted the Dreamer’s sister. Mari didn’t waste any time before rushing over and giving her brother a spine-breaking hug.

“Oh, thank goodness your alright, Omori; I was worried sick since everyone else disappeared as if it was a bad magic trick. Come on, let’s go find them together!” Mari wasted no time following by her brother's side; she was as happy as can be; besides the Spelling Bee, Omori shuddered at how long it took its sweet time to spell its name out constantly. Either way, with the siblings together, they ventured off. Everywhere was blocked off, everywhere but north. Seeing as the fog had cleared up, Omori led the way, holding onto his knife as if it was a sword while Mari hummed that cursed song over and over again. And that’s when they were to meet a dead end, or it appears as one. The party stopped in front of a pier where the fog was still dense but not as much as it was elsewhere; seeing as there was no harm, Mari walked to the ladder and slowly descended. The water reached up towards her knees, it was refreshing, and if she could, she would spend the days here. Omori hesitated, or at least he seemed to.

“Everything okay, Omori? I know you're afraid of the water, but you have to stay strong, if not for yourself, then for your friends, for me, and Aubrey.” Mari couldn’t help but through a jab at his heart; besides, she really wanted him to improve; everyone does. No one stays this young, and it turns out for a good reason. Looking down to avoid her gaze, she couldn’t help but notice his ears are barely glowing. Damn this fog and not having hi… a camera by her side, she would love to parade that to the end of times. “Come on, brother, let’s go on an adventure like before.” She was beaming with joy and life as her figure produced a familiar yellow that Omori knew well. Taking a deep breath, he walked forward, his non-existent heart pumped full of dread as he took his first step. Then his last. It was a small ladder, apparently.

Working has always paid off in the end. Despite how much or little, there was still pay at the end, whether it came to calms, a new move, or just getting closer. Aubrey knew this in full, yet she signed herself up for this mess. She hated every second of it, and as much as she didn’t want to admit it, she would rather hunt Sprout Moles or find Basil instead. And yet, here she was, serving drinks to her fellow gamblers who would soon become enslaved to debt by the casino boss and his goons. At least it wasn’t all bad. She was wearing something nice and pretty. It was like wearing a suit the crocodiles were wearing with a hint of showing more skin, especially the arms since there were no sleeves. Just a skirt to the knees, a suit with a few pockets, and her bat by her side. She drew the biggest straw in this situation as she could keep something to defend herself, although not needed because despite how shady these ‘fine’ folks are, they kept their word. From sharing lunch sharing duties and shifts. Unless the boss said otherwise, these people worked well in unison; they even taught her an advanced technique of headbutting in exchange for being one of the dealers at one of the tables. It was all fun to some extent.

No, Kel being around since he was kicked out. Not for disobeying the rules, but more like losing his employee key card and destroying a well-cooked meal. So as punishment, he was meant to stand in front of the casino and get people to enter as well. At the very least, his big size did help with more customers; maybe this was his calling card for so long. Hero was a different story. Profit nearly going up by seven hundred percent, he single handly improves the working staff's morale with his charm, knowing to spot a cheater and a well-mannered customer. He can do everything that everyone wishes to be, sighing she rested on one of the empty tables, using her arms as to keep her from falling. Where was Omori? She had missed him ever since yesterday, for their honeymoon was cut short thanks to something taking him; it took a long time for her to calm down. She does swear bloody vengeance on whoever or whatever took her husband. They better get ready for her bat if they can’t take a stainless steel knife towards it. Oh, she wishes for it to come here so she can give it a welcoming gift. Looking out to the sea of gamblers, she smiled. This wasn’t the worst thing she could be doing or tolerating, now is just a waiting game. Omori would always be there to save them and her, just like he did when they first met. He would always be there, and now she just has to wait. Just for a little longer, and everything will be alright.

Taking a small breath, she was approached by a croc in a suit; despite looking intimidating, he was quite timid, and some even say he was an alligator in very convincing disguise from a rival casino where they operate in the land. Either way, neither minded the other, leaning next to the railing she was next to; they both shared a small silence as they watched the lively road pass by. They saw a spaceship drop off some cargo and an individual before flying away. They saw many Muscle Clams fight for something shiny. They saw someone being pestered at one of the tolls but paid no mind to it. “Say, Aubrey, whatcha doing here?” Spoke the Croc. “Nothing much, searching for a potential friend, and somehow I ended up here.” She lets out a small sigh before focusing her attention on her new companion. “And you? I bet those tats you try to hide have some meaning.” She smiled a bit at her quick thinking; there was some colored ink on his back, it was barely visible, but thanks to her height, it was easy to see what it was. The Croc sighed as his shoulders slumped to the side as him pulling down his shades. “Ga- I mean, a group I used to run with, we thought we were the best of the best. Did anything and everything with them, almost made the accomplishments of Captain Space Ex-Husband look like nothing. And here is where we disbanded. With planning to win the big clams here.” Giving a small sigh, he chuckled. “We lost, but since the boss was so kind, one had to stay to pay it off. As the leader, I stepped up without fear, but I was afraid didn’t matter. After a tearful goodbye and one last meal, they all left. Maybe they forgot about me, maybe they all became toast, or worse. Still, a heck of a ride with those folks. Miss them.” After a small nod, they both got up and walked out back to their shift. Maybe it wasn’t as bad as Aubrey thought.

“Come on… come on Sunny… where did you… a-ha!” Aubrey was worried sick as she now had to care for a still-soaking Sunny. What was worrying was that he was still out cold with no sign of life besides the small breaths he gave out. Fishing for his keys in his pocket, she smiled as she got them, yet as she tried to slot them in, the door was pushed forward, which annoyed her to no end. And then there wasn’t annoyance; there was fear. Fear for someone or something being inside these safe walls. Wincing as there was nothing else to do, she looked around for anyone to be close by. And that’s when she spotted her solution. The brothers were walking back from Basil’s house or somewhere else. Either way, they could help.

“H-hey, Kel… and Hero, come here.” Turning their heads, they saw Aubrey and Sunny; Kel wanted to ignore her and just return home, but Hero saw something more concerning, Sunny’s condition. Then Kel saw it too. Both rushed over as there was no car crossing. “H-hey, what’s going on?” Kel spoke as Hero took a knee and checked over Sunny. With his clothes dampened and him still not responding, he feared the worse. Yet he believes there was life in him, a pulse, and it wasn’t weak enough to warrant a hospital visit. “His house was left open, and I don’t get my bat. Rather carrying him than something replaceable.” She spoke confidently, yet it meant a lot to her, but an object can always be replaceable. A living being can never be. “If you want me to apologize, I’m more than happy to bite the bullet; I’ll sing and dance if I have to for both you and Basil; just check to see what’s inside, please? I need a fire for him and… well, he is doing anything but hot.” Kel would’ve loved to take the chance to tease her at the mention of ‘song and dance’, and yet he couldn’t, at least not when they were in the open. He turned his head, only to find Hero gone and Sunny’s front door open. Following his brother’s footsteps, he shuddered at how dark it was.

Flicking on the lights, he winced as nothing came on, just the sound of it. But the area was recognizable, just not that visible. The moonlight helped with that fact as everything was still visible, just barely. Holding onto the ball, he was so well trained with, he tiptoed around the rooms as if he was an adventurer. One step into the kitchen and he winced as there was some spoiled meat on the pan; checking the fridge for anything out of the ordinary, he smiled at the sight of burgers, enough to feed him and everyone nearby. But it’s cold; there’s no fun in eating it as such, so he closed it without thought. Checking the counter, he noticed something missing, a kitchen knife. Putting two and two together, he placed it back where it belonged, smiling as if he completed a puzzle that took eons to complete. Checking the table, he notices something shiny. Coins and candy, and dollar bills as well! This wasn’t his, so he paid no mind, taking a simple mint for himself, leaving what he assumed was the small pile by itself. Soon enough, he entered the dining room; nothing of interest here for once. Walking back to the staircase, he winced as once he took a step upwards, he heard the sounds of a faint piano playing; looking around, he saw no one besides an open door leading towards Sunny’s room; this didn’t feel good at all. And yet, once reaching the top, it stopped. Taking a step down, he heard nothing but his own steps. Odd, oh well. Once entering the open door, he saw Hero. “Hey Hero, whatcha see?” And yet, he didn’t budge. He didn’t dare to move a muscle. Once pushing his brother to the side, he couldn’t help but stare at it as well.

Notes:

Welp, I got nothing else to say than enjoy, as of now. I've been struck with BR from another source of media, so I'll see where that takes me. From strangers to lovers, the Mercanry and Cooridnator live a different life, without the pain of the manor and new pains. Such as schooling. In comes Ivory High. Kudos and comments are appreciated. Best of fortunes.

Chapter Text

Kel could only marvel at what was in front of him. The moonlight made the piano room look oh so beautiful like he stepped through a portal where art came to life. He has seen some posters of an up-and-coming artist named Weiss Guertennis or someone like that. Many of his artwork was up in a museum across the world. He heard that Mincy and Basil wanted to attend a trip if they were ever given the opportunity. And as much Basil was give or take with opportunity, Mincy blurted out she would do unspeakable things for the chance. Many people laughed it up. Seeing as many people couldn’t see her but do anything but lightly slap anyone who opposed her, the threat wasn’t challenged. But taking a closer look, deep into her soul, Kel could only shutter as she could be seen on a warpath of mass destruction.

Shaking off the feeling of an artist turning into a warlord behind him, he could only smile as Hero stood at the center of the room. He could’ve sworn he heard a piano play briefly before entering the room. Still, here he was. Hero looked… broken. As if he was faced with a never-ending war against the truth of that day, as if he received the day he failed his entrance exam at the college he was planning to attend. Or the day he accidentally poisoned himself when he first started baking. Those days, he will never live down; it was quality blackmail, according to the Suzuki siblings.

Looking a bit deeper into what he was looking at, besides the luxurious piano that was gathering dust bunnies, there was something that he had feared since he could understand the concept of fear and horror. An eight-legged beast of horror with so many eyes facing him. Its fur gave it the cover of the night as it could blend into the night. A small spider was minding its own business, eyeing up the piano as it could be a good place to set up shop if not a nice home. Hero’s deadpan of a face shows his petrification of the beast. Kel could only sigh. “Sometimes I wonder if you really are the big brother…”

Kel exited the room before returning with a cup and scoping up the small fella. With the window closed, Kel could only open it before letting it fly into the great unknown of the backyard. Returning to his petrified brother, he pinched his arm just enough to reset him as if he were a machine. Seeing as he retracted quickly, Kel was satisfied with the outcome. “T-thanks Kel…” Hero sheepishly said. “Thank me by fixing that fear of yours. One day, I won’t be here to help you with it. Did anyone in college find out about it?” Hero only looked away sheepishly before walking out of the room. ‘That answers my question.’ Looking around the room, the only thing significant was the piano. Seeing as there was no other place to hide unless the supposed intruder was a shapeshifter, Kel gave a faint shrug before closing the door behind.

The brothers can deduce something immediately by checking every nook and cranny around the darkened home. There was no one of interest or danger. Maybe another spider to haunt Hero’s morality, but other than that, nothing else of note. As this was the all-clear, Aubrey carried Sunny into the living room. He was still dampened as the water stuck to his clothes. Looking around what was available, she jumped at the remaining pieces of firewood next to them and quickly stacked them in a neat pile to start a fire. Seeing as Hero was occupied with making sure he didn’t keel over another bug and Kel, being Kel, was deciding on the remaining morales in him whether or not to scarf down the refrigerated burgers, Aubrey jumped at the chance to light the fire. She wasn’t a pyromaniac at all; she just loved the warmth and the process of it! Besides, everyone in her gang let her do the honors as the boss; surely they understand. She picked up her beaten-up lighter from one of her few pockets, grabbed a very old newspaper next to where the logs were placed, rolled it up neatly, tucked it into the logs, and lit the fire. It didn’t take long for the fire to pick up. Placing one last log on top of the ever-growing fire, Aubrey was content as the fire grew, but it was controlled. Some part of her was convinced that she had woodsmoke in her veins. At the very least, it was something useful survival skill.

Hero watched it all unfold, and he would’ve jumped at her if she accidentally burnt down Sunny’s house. But he was too slow to stop her from lighting the fire. And yet, to his pleasant surprise, she was smart about this. He knew little about how to start a fire, but how she did this was slow and careful, almost like she had done this many times before. He was almost proud of her, only for the realization to kick in like a mule. Why does she have a lighter in the first place? Turning his focus on Sunny, he saw her carefully placing him by the fire. Far enough not to be burned. But close enough to feel a warmth that was foreign to him. Aubrey sat content as her husband was getting warmer with every second. Rubbing his head softly, she could only smile as he practically acted like a cat. Fitting.

“So… what happened?” Turning her attention to Hero, Aubrey bit her lip at her as she couldn’t get out of this. Kel was one thing; with his brother along, she had a better chance of acing her classes than this. And yet, it was pointless to run. Taking a deep breath, she was going to confess to the fullest. “I-.” She couldn’t say anything else as some noise was coming from the fireplace. Looking back, she first worried that something was going on that Hero wouldn’t share verbally. Her thoughts were only to be interrupted by someone carrying a container half-empty of patties, some hamburger buns, and a cast-iron skillet. While Kel was setting up shop, Aubrey could only deadpan at her friend while Hero nodded ever so lightly at his choice of pans.

She couldn’t say anything else as her stomach growled ever so much. Surrendering herself into hunger, she could do nothing else but help prepare dinner.

“Let me get Sunny some clothes to change in; as much as I don’t like bothering his sleep, he needs to change. Besides, I don’t like that there is no light here. After that, you going to tell me everything that happened until then, alright Aubrey?” As soon as he made sure Aubrey didn’t burn the only good food here or Kel didn’t play with the fire poker, Hero excused himself to slowly find anything for the only sleeping person in the living room to change into. It was a miracle he wasn’t shivering or sneezing just as much. He didn’t bump into any of nature's mistakes. It didn’t take long for Kel to rush back into the living room; as the fireplace was the only source of reliable light, he placed everything by the couch—everything needed for a change of clothes. It also helped that the remaining patties were cooked; well done by the oversight of Hero.

It didn’t take long for everyone to have their fair share of their meal. Sure, it wasn’t much, and the meat wasn’t tasteful, but anything is better than falling asleep on an empty stomach. Looking around the darkened room, everyone was content with their meal. It took a lot more time than anyone would like to admit, but thankfully, Sunny also woke up. Dazed and confused were written over his face, but it was enough to make him change in an empty room and eat his only meal. Afterward, he just crashed hard onto the couch as if he had never woken up in the first place. As adorable as it was to see him act like this, especially with Aubrey's eyes turning into hearts at whatever he did, Hero was worried. This isn’t like him; it’s understandable when someone you look up to takes her own life. Now, all he has to wonder is how long this has happened.

He expected change, especially with something as heartbreaking as this. His wrists alone told his own story, one he regrets as he wouldn’t be able to see Sally, his baby sister. Still, it was worrying that Sunny was like this. He knew his brother practically knocked on his door the day he shut himself off from the world, but how long did he? His heart dropped as there wasn’t an easy answer to this, and it didn’t help that he was like him for a whole year.

Shaking his head and seeing Sunny was content sleeping on the couch, he could only look for Kel to return home, leaving him in his parents and Aubrey’s arms. That would be the case if not for Kel setting up a pillow fort behind the couch. “Come on; it’ll be too late to go elsewhere; besides, what’s one more sleepover before Sunny leaves to who knows where!” Kel said in an upbeat voice, as always.

Aubrey and Hero looked at him as if he had dyed his hair purple and started acting like the Queen had knighted him. It was at that point Kel could only shrug a bit. “Did I not tell you two? It was in front of his door... Oh yeah, it’s dark out; you wouldn’t have seen the sign. Either way, let’s enjoy this; we’ll be active as much as possible until who knows when.” And just like he was out like a light.

The silence was uncomfortable for the only conscious people as Hero lay on one side of the makeshift fort while Aubrey lay closest to Sunny as his chest slowly rose and fell. The only noise was the fire slowly dying, Kel’s snoring, and any night creatures in the background. It was calming; all that was missing was Basil and… and Mari. It didn’t take long for someone to clear her throat and focus on Hero. It was time to come clean with nothing bothering them besides an intruder or the apocalypse; Aubrey gave a small hum before speaking up.

“So, what exactly would you like to learn? Or would just today be good enough?”

Again, apologies for making it seem I have abandoned this story. Was burnt out, so I made something else. Well here's hoping I haven't dropped in quality.

Chapter Text

Tapping his foot in annoyance, Omori could only stare down at the Gator Guy operating the station. Of course, he knew he would be there—he always had and always would. And yet, he hoped that with the many changes, he could walk on through without issue so he could go along with this ‘magical journey’ to find his ‘best friend.’ Nope! He was still a prick as he picked up his sunglasses and gave them the finishing touches to make them shine.

“Sorry buddy, but going there alone is too dangerous for a kid like you. Maybe bring a few friends or someone else of note, and maybe I’ll consider letting you go.” He grinned, showing off his toothy grin, and pointed the other way, leading back to the casino.

Omori tensed up a bit as he had to deal with the usual antics and a supercharged Aubrey. She’s a good girl; he can’t deny that bit. But she’s fake. This whole world is fake. If anything, he wouldn’t mind taking more than he was given. He was a vessel for escapism for the Dreamer for the sin he had committed. And what did he get in return? Him ruining all his hard work. He deserves better, a lot better.

And yet, he had to play his role, like always. Tempting to succumb to blind rage and rip the gator bit by bit, he opted to do something else. Ruining his suit with a well-placed can of toxic sludge with one of his red hands that the stationed Gator didn’t see coming. He smirked as the stationed Gator Guy stood there worried as his cheap suit was beyond repair as this orange-tainted drink ran its course, making sure it was next to impossible to remove the scent from both the suit and the booth itself, he could be consumed by some of the predators of this land, and he couldn’t give a damn, he better show some respect if he knew good for him.

And yet, he walked back to the entrance casino defeated and towards where it was placed; hopefully, things would end the way he had imagined. Omori hummed to himself as he continued to walk towards it. With how flashy the lights were, how it was both the most eye-catching and the only big building in its way, he wished he could’ve dimmed the lights ever so much. Still, business needed to be taken care of in the end. Huffing just a bit, it didn’t take long for him to reach it. And just like before, there was someone already waiting for him. With his bubbly personality, he now wishes he wasn’t the smallest in the group anymore. Maybe he should grow taller; if it worked for these illusions, surely it could work for him, right?

Looking around a bit before hiding in a conveniently shaped rock to hide himself, he did all he could. He put more force into this, more than when he drank that revolting liquidized bread, more than forcing the knife into his best friend’s chest, more than enduring the many blows by the biggest beast that has come from the Dreamer. He focused. And little did he know, he grew.

Checking her company-stationed watch wasn’t much other than having two states of either WORK or rest. She could only sigh as the sign that says WORK was lit while ‘rest’ was dimmed down. Standing from her chair, Aubrey could only sigh as she was getting quite comfortable in it; sure, it was wooden and slightly crocked, but better than the dirty floor itself. Still, she had to follow the contract she had signed to. It was for Paprica or whatever his name is. Huffing ever so lightly, she stationed herself at one of the tables. With no chair in her station, she could only sigh as there wasn’t much she could do besides wait it out. If anything, being sent outside would mean that she can sit whenever she wants, but then there’s Kel outside, and violence against ‘fellow’ co-workers is prohibited. Decisions decisions…

Sighing out loud, she dealt the cards to the gamblers and dealt herself a hand. She didn’t know much about this game; she was told that if she reached 18 or above, she would stop collecting cards and give cards to the players when asked. And even if Kel could count that high, he could never keep to himself. If it wasn’t for the contract, Aubrey worried about what could’ve happened to him, becoming Toast at the very least! He may be annoying, but no one deserves that; even Sweetheart falls in that category, and she’s already bread herself. No one deserves to be toast in the end. So she played this game. Some occupants got lucky, while others lost their clams, ranging from a tasty meal to life savings. She wanted to feel bad for these people, but she couldn’t. Was it thanks to the contract, was it thanks to her blunt personality, or maybe it was likely she missed *HER* Sunny. She was getting annoyed; her patience was running thin, and every sight of someone with black hair made her heart skip a beat until realizing it was someone else; then, her headband went lower than ever before.

Then someone new came in. He may have been just a few inches shorter, but he looked familiar. She wanted to think that her mind was playing tricks on her once again as she’d confused others for her special someone. Thanks to his getup, she wanted to believe it was a stranger, but his face was something else. Wearing a suit akin to her fellow collages; it was a pure black suit with a flower pin shaped like a beautiful gladiolus by his chest. Holding onto a stainless knife, he walked by her, focusing on the slot machine. She was so amazed by his beauty and charm that she knocked over the deck by her side. Not caring for the rules or her contract, she walked over and gave a small poke to his shoulder. Turning his head, she immediately wrapped her arms around him. With a small sigh, Omori followed suit.

Omori wanted to avoid this. He didn’t know what he was getting himself into. But he hated these newfound ‘feelings.’ He didn’t need these things unless they helped him in a fight. He was more than content being in a neutral state. How he was able to grow to the size of his creator, let alone return to this attire once again, was unknown to him. But he wasn’t against it. It felt… odd, nice even, but odd nonetheless. Walking towards the entrance of the casino, he was ignored by Kel. Not in a hurtful way, but more of the fact of what his job is. Giving a wave towards him, hoping he quietly followed him, he entered the casino for what felt nearly 1 and a half thousandth time, maybe less, but it’s hard to tell. There was more detail in some places, but he wasn’t disturbed by it. It isn’t an obstacle, so he’ll try to ignore it.

Turning his attention to the many machines, he tried to blend in. He believed that if everyone assumed him to be one of the many gamblers around, then he wouldn’t be found out. Maybe he could’ve done it by himself. That train of thought was interrupted by the small poke on his shoulder. Besides how light the suit is, he already knows who it is. Turning his whole body over to the stranger, he quickly pocketed his knife as he didn’t want to hurt anyone yet. Feeling his spine being to the point of collapsing, he tapped his hugger by her sides, hoping for her to realize she did so, smiling to the point it put both the sun's and Kel’s bright smile to shame. Now, all he had to do was contain this very happy Aubrey. But on closer expectation, he couldn’t help but turn pink. Slowly, he was accepting the fact that he actually liked this. He shouldn't; she was fake as well as this world. Then why is he starting to like her? Why now, of all times? Why couldn’t it be down the road where the Dreamer was miles away from this blasted town? It made no sense; none of it did. But that didn’t matter, he hopes. Lightly tapping at his cheeks to keep the redness in his face away, he focused on the main objection, whatever that may be. Aubrey, on the other hand, leaned forward and pecked it. She thought it was a signal or a sign for it. Omori was starting to lose it as that monotone and ‘docile’ nature of his was slowly being ripped piece by piece. And if not that, he didn’t know if he appreciated this change, or if he was losing it himself. But his response to that small kiss? Crash into the nearest slot machine, giving him the jackpot. What a time to be alive.

Elsewhere in the real world, Hero was slowly taking in all of the information Aubrey was saying. While he wasn’t in the right place to be a jury or, especially, an executioner, the judge suited his position of whatever Aubrey was planning to do. And yet, he didn’t stop her as he watched while she put on her jacket.

“What are you doing, Aubrey? Where are you going?” Sure, he was mad at her for pushing Basil’s limits, for pushing Kel around and away, and to some small extent, hugging Sunny to the point he started looking blue. But she didn’t respond as she was ready to leave. “Home. I’m pretty sure no one would want to see me now. Don’t worry; I’m not gonna do anything drastic or over-reactive. I… I just wanna think for a while. Besides, Bun-Bun must be hungry; I don’t want blood on my hands. And I need to pick up my bat. I only trust myself and Sunny to carry it.” With a small smile, she left, carefully closing the door behind her. Leaving Hero alone in the pillow fort, he wonders if he could’ve said anything, but he wasn’t in the place to do anything, at least not yet. He can only return to his side of the fort, planning ahead to make the last day for Sunny, a day he wouldn’t forget, a day no one would ever. But overthinking it now would get him nowhere; he needed rest. So he slept as best he could.

Notes:

Honestly, I have no excuse for putting this off for such a long period of time. I just lost interest, and I am considering re-writing it. I'll do my best either way.

Chapter 16: The end.

Summary:

Being as blunt as I can be.

Chapter Text

Hello and good evening, night or whenever whoever may happen to both read this and also care for my sad attempt at a multi-chapter fic. It was my first attempt that made me happy, but sadly, that steam has gone. Now I really don't know what else to add on. Part of me wants to scrap it entirely. Part of me wants to burn it to the ground and make snowmen with the ashes, possibly rebuild it. Either way, I sadly don't see myself focusing on this anymore. If anyone wants to, take it off my hands, put your own twist into it. Take what you can get, and I'm sorry for the few that remain to read this.

The only way I ever see myself writing more of this concept is more akin to one-shots of the happy couple exploring the world at their own pace, whether that be before or after the incident, in a world where it never happened, or maybe something else. Who knows. Either way, for those who liked it, thank you for putting up with me. For those who are much more talented, by all means, try your hand at it. And for those who wanted a completion, again, I'm so sorry. Take care, everyone.

And just on the off chance people want to read more of my stuff, I ain't going away just yet. While I do love writing, I do it more as gifts now. So maybe if whatever idea you throw my way on Twitter, I'll consider writing for you. But enough of my attempt at fame and recognition, ciao. Until my next attempt at making something work out.
