Rain poured in heavy sheets, cleansing the earth and soil. Water ran over the ground like a great broom, sweeping rocks and sakura petals along rivulets to join a stream.
A flash of purple; a strangled cry; and silence.
Only the rain dared to speak; even the wind seemed appalled at what had just occurred.
A trickle of red followed the water, staining floating pink blossoms a deep crimson.
A flash of white fur heralded the shouts of soldiers, a sudden cacophony amidst the deadly silence. Lightning flickered across the sky as the cat's snowy paws pounded the pavement, fleeing a calamity he'd long been dreading-
"Quite frankly, I see no logic in this decision-"
"C'mon, Kaz! Everyone knows a true samurai has honour!"
A reassuring smile that did little to ease a growing sense of despair.
The cat reached a harbour; the ocean roiled and churned beneath the force of the storming sky, crashing in on itself like Ouroboros. Soldiers struggled to get through the crowd; and the cat realised he had two options.
Risk the ocean, or go quietly.
He gritted his teeth, ears flattening.
They did nothing to stop her-
They'd stood by idly as his best friend was cut down like a weed-
The cat unsheathed his claws, paws shaking. He noticed a pirate watching him, but paid them no mind-
One slash, and he was free.
The collar clattered to the floor.
It was only when he stood to leave that he realised his paw was stained red…
