“Wow, Tsumugi, this is amazing!” Angie exclaimed, twirling around to better admire every inch of her surroundings. Tsumugi’s sewing room wasn’t an unfamiliar sight to her, but it was rare for her to spend extended periods of time there, especially when her girlfriend was busy working. Angie disliked being interrupted in her studio when she was trying to make progress on her own art, so she extended the same courtesy to those around her. For Tsumugi to invite her in felt quite special if she was being honest.
“Thank you, but I don’t know if it’s anything that impressive,” Tsumugi replied, hands clasped in front of her as she watched Angie survey the room. “I’m just a plain, small-time cosplayer doing what I’m passionate about. My workspace is nothing compared to a professional fashion designer’s.”
“Don’t talk like that.” Angie frowned, waltzing closer to cup Tsumugi’s face in her hands. “If Angie thinks you’re amazing, then you are. You could definitely be a fashion designer if you wanted to, but you’re super cool either way! So many people love your cosplays. Hehe, even Angie could probably learn a thing or two from you.” The soft skin of Tsumugi’s cheeks warmed under her hands, a clear sign that she was embarrassed when coupled with the way her eyes darted around behind her glasses, avoiding Angie’s own. Never one to go easy on anyone, Angie stayed where she was a little longer before taking a step back and letting her hands drop to her sides.
“I’m not so sure,” Tsumugi began. She must have noticed Angie preparing to argue again though, because she didn’t continue that thought, just shaking her head instead. “I’m glad you think so though. I think this con will be extra fun with you by my side. My followers will love it too.”
“So, is it time for Angie’s fitting?”
“It sure is. Here you go,” She said, handing over a hanger from a nearby clothing rack. “I have the shoes and accessories prepared too, but you don’t need to try on the whole outfit right now if you don’t want to. The most important thing is making sure the dress fits properly.”
“No, no,” Angie replied. She knew how seriously Tsumugi took cosplay. If her girlfriend wouldn’t be satisfied trying on only part of the whole ensemble, neither would she. “Angie wants to know how it all looks together so she can admire Tsumugi’s hard work. God is curious too.” With that said, she made quick work of changing into the painstakingly sewn cosplay, admiring the soft, orange fabric and floral details. It conjured up memories of her island hometown, and she made a beeline for the nearest mirror, eager to admire herself.
“This is great,” she murmured as Tsumugi helped her with the jewelry. “It already fits pretty well too.”
“Mm, it could be better.” Tsumugi pushed her glasses up from where they slid down the bridge of her nose, inspecting Angie from all angles. “I could take it in a little more at the waist, and some of these flowers seem loose...” She continued mumbling to herself, occasionally pinning sections of fabric or taking measurements. Angie didn’t understand many of the technical details, but she was happy to stand there and let Tsumugi work, humming softly.
“You won’t even need a wig for this cosplay,” Tsumugi added after a few minutes of talking to herself. “Your hair’s a bit shorter than hers, but if you wear it down, it’s exactly the right style and color. I really did well,” she continued gleefully, her sheer happiness bringing a wider smile to Angie’s face too. “You suit this character so well. The only thing that could improve this cosplay is the right demeanor, but I’m not sure I’m ready to see a cold Angie-chan.”
“Angie can act however you want.” She wrapped her arms around Tsumugi’s waist, pulling her in close and giggling at the yelp she elicited. “But right now, she’s super curious about who Tsumugi’s going to cosplay with her. Can Angie have a sneak peek?”
“Well, I’m not done yet. There’s still some finishing touches to make. But for you, I suppose I could reveal what I’ve done so far.”
