Do You Even Lift?

Summary:

“Is this why you’ve been going to the gym so much?”

Chloe grunted a smug affirmative. “Okay,” Max said, and patted Chloe again, and reached over and squeezed Chloe’s admittedly impressive forearms, oohing and aahing as she did. More smug rumbling.

“Wait,” Max said then, frowning, “How long can you hold us up for?”

Notes:

In this house, when we see a tense just walking down the street start mutating painfully into a different shape, screaming through the whiplash transition, we just keep our heads down and mind our own business :D

Work Text:

Max was crouched in the gravel under the hot humidity of the summer evening sun when she heard it.

Chloe was yodelling her name. She was really giving every letter a good work out. Max sighed. The left football stud and the pair of stockings could wait for the moment atleast. Hopefully Rachel wouldn’t notice the stockings before Max had run them through the wash.

The yodelling continued as she trudged to the door. As she’s unlocking the door when CHloe starts repeating her name like an automatic rifle.

“I’m here!” Max said, waving her hands, “First Mate Caulfield, requesting permission to-”

Max blinked, standing still in the doorway.

“Yea,” Rachel said, waving from her perch on Chloe’s shoulder, “She got me, I’d say save yourself, but she has a huge stride so-”

Chloe launched into movement, striding across the floor before Max could react. Max only just caught sight of Chloe's arm muscled tight around Rachel’s waist, holding her in place before she was getting scooped up herself.

Some kind of small animal squeaked pathetically and it definitely wasn’t Max.

“Chloe!” Max protested, from her newfound altitude far above five foot and some change, where she usually spent her days.

Chloe kicked her head back and launched into a cackle.

“Hey, Sappho, eat your heart out!” Chloe crowed.

Max met Rachel’s gaze over Chloe’s head. Rachel shook her head and sighed.

“I’m the da king of da gym!” Chloe bellowed.

Max looked down at the sniggering and cackling Chloe, and tapped her on the head. Chloe grunted and turned a scowling, beady eye at her. She even growled. Max smirked and patted Chloe on the face.

“Is this why you’ve been going to the gym so much?”

Chloe grunted a smug affirmative. “Okay,” Max said, and patted Chloe again, and reached over and squeezed Chloe’s admittedly impressive forearms, oohing and aahing as she did. More smug rumbling.

“Wait,” Max said then, frowning, “How long can you hold us for?”

Chloe hummed thoughtfully. Max noticed her shoulders were twitching beneath Max’s legs.

“About five…” Chloe mused. Rachel groaned, and buried her head in her hands. The arms around Max and Rachel’s waists tightened hard.

“Five? Five minutes?” Max said, eyes wide. Rachel groaned louder as the arms got tighter.

“I fucking hate this place…” she murmured. Chloe started moving through the flat, avoiding the ceiling fan as she did. Max was distracted at how different the flat looked from this height. She felt like a kid in Jurassic Park as Chloe led them to the couch. Max’s mind started whirring with all the ways she could use Chloe for her photos.

“Aw come on, it’s cool she can do it so long! Five minutes, seriously, Chlo?” Max said, leaning slightly to catch Chloe’s eyes, she’d have preferred a bit longer for some photo subjects, but she could make do. She was already wondering about Chloe’s recovery time. But then Max saw Chloe’s face. What she saw froze her with fear.

Chloe slowly turned to her like a clockwork robot, tears gleaming in her eyes. Her mouth was frozen in a painful grimace, like a clown at the thousandth eight year old’s birthday.

"Three…," Chloe murmured.

Max frowned. “You’re so lame, Price…” Rachel murmured to the side.

“Two…”

Max’s eyes widened. No,” Max murmured breathlessly. She’d realised. “Why’d I ever think you were hot…” Rachel sighed.

“One…”

"No, no, no Chlo-eeeeeeeaaaaaa!” Max yelped.

As Chloe's legs crumbled and they all plummeted to the surface of the couch like a brick from a skyscraper construction site does to the head of a suspecting passerby below, Max yelled all the way down. Rachel sighed all the way down, which was impressive. It was a long way down.

They hit the couch surface, and kept going with vicious momentum. Somewhere, someplace in the low mountain regions in the dark depths of the couch, a spring gave away and died.

In the aftermath of the dust and the debris, Max had a hazy thought, not unlike the feathers floating in the air above them from the now crushed cushions, Atleast she made sure we fell on the couch. Kudos for that.

Rachel sighed as a feather gently tucked itself in on her hair. Max giggled as Chloe rumbled happily, and tugged Rachel closer.

Rachel groaned. “Ugh,” she huffed, leaning down to kiss her, “You’re so annoying Price.”

“That was my couch,” Rachel said to Max, “I thrifted that couch.”

Max nodded along sympathetically, ignoring how Rachel stroked Chloe’s hair. Chloe shook Max insistently. Max smirked and leaned down and tacked a kiss onto Chloe’s cheek. More happy rumbling.

“I know we’ve been digging the whole deadlift alpha thing all this time,” Max said, “And we do, but if I look in the mirror and see chalk handprints on my ass…”

“What, you’ll make us do a photoshoot for an hour and a half on a work night?” Rachel said. Chloe barked a laugh and they broke into giggles.

Max sniffed and only held out for a few moments before quipping, “Jeez, you make it sound like I take all the fun out of domestic molestation.”

It breaks them all, and it’s some kind of sweet and stupid torture to laugh and gasp in the dusty, post couch eruption air. They cough and choke and chortle, and it goes on and on.

The come down is slow and prickly, hot sweat under their clothes in the humidity of summer, dust stinging their eyes, and their itchy bodies woved in and above and around each other. Chloe’s happily flexing away between them.

“You know if I’m being all sexy,” Chloe said, “You guys gotta match up. Can’t let such a primo cut of beef like me go to waste with some bland ass salt and pepper!”

“Oh yeah? I’ll season your primo cut of beef with the shreds of all the shots I’ve taken of you,” Max warned.

Rachel hummed. “I mean, we could get a bit cute tonight,” she said thoughtfully, “Actually, you guys know where my stockings are?”

Max stiffened.

Fuck…, she thought.
