Work Text:
It was a perfect evening in the late winter. The season had, barring a few exceptionally cold days, been unusually warm, and with spring only a few mere weeks away, many had believed the snow would never come. But alas, with the weather cooling just enough, the snow came, and perfectly at that.
With the weather being relatively cold compared to previous weeks, combined with the lateness of the hour, most stayed indoors, so the white sheet that covered the ground remained undisturbed. The critters of the woods silently slumbered in their burrows and in their nests, so not a sound could be heard.
Clouds and haze covered the night sky, so the only illumination that could be perceived emanated from the snow that had gently gathered on the ground and on the tree branches. The snow was soft and pillow-like; the sort one might sleep on under the right circumstances. Indeed, this was one of those evenings that made life worth living.
Soon the rain would come and wash it away, or it would be stamped out by frolicking children, or the perfect whiteness would be marred by litter and waste, but in this one, quiet moment, God unveiled His Presence, and enlightenment seemed within reach. Not all the serpent’s temptations nor all the troubles of the many realms of man could change that, and no one on the quest for enlightenment could be made to forget it.
