“Ugh,” Hawks muttered while entering the house.
“Ah, welcome back,” Dabi said from the sofa.
“Yeah, lucky me,” Hawks took off his jacket and put it in the entrance wardrobe, he walked to the closed window and lifted up the roller shutters, opening the windows.
The sudden light and the blowing wind made Dabi swear.
Not that there was much light or wind, the sky was covered in whitish-gray clouds, those clouds that may bring rain, everything was quite still, quite meek.
“The hell are you doing? Keep it closed, you shithead.”
“Nah, you need a change of air sometimes, Dabi. Even if, well, this rainy air isn't the best.”
“You don't like this kinda air or the rain?”
“Both,” Hawks closed the window and sat next to him.
“Oh? Is there a reason or…?” Dabi didn't seem too interested in the conversation, he was scrolling through his phone in his usual bored way, still, when Hawks rested his head on his shoulder, he held the phone with the other hand and wrapped the now free arm around his waist.
Almost an automatic action.
It probably was by now, and Hawks didn't know what to think about that.
Or, better yet, he didn't know whether it would have been better for that action to be automatic or not.
“My wings get soaked and flying is more difficult,” he decided to ignore his head in favor of answering him.
“Uhuh, cool.”
He gave him a glance, Dabi was just staring at the phone. “At least try to fake some interest.”
“Mhm, true.”
“You're a dick.”
“Surely,” but he had a half grin on his face that made Hawks laugh a little.
“Heyyyy Dabiiii.”
“What?”
“Look at me.”
Dabi gave him a glance, he smiled. “Oh, God.”
“God what?” Hawks showed him his most convincing smile.
“No, do that face again.”
“What face?”
His smile was now more amused. “Lost in my eyes, you dumb idiot.”
“Uhhh, that’s such a heavy insult,” Hawks lifted his head and moved closer, “you’re losing your touch, Lantern.”
“Lantern?” He would have almost laughed, “what kinda nickname is that?”
Hawks pouted, kind of, lower lip brought out, he quickly blinked. “It’sw becawse wyou awe thwe liwght of mwy liwfe.”
Dabi made a disgusted face. “If you go on like this I’ll leave.”
The blond’s expression broke into laughter as he moved even closer. “Aw, c’mon Dabi, we both know you wouldn’t last a day without me.”
“Well, would you look at that, I have two hands— Christ, the fuck you pulling my hair for?”
“To make you shut up.”
“There are better ways to shut me up.”
“Mhm,” he could feel his breathing on his lips, “well, I know some of them, mh?”
Dabi smiled, and maybe now Hawks understood that Lost in my eyes that he found so beautiful.
Dear God.
He brought a hand to the back of his neck and moved Dabi closer, their lips touched but they weren’t searching for more, again and again and again and nobody searched for more.
Dear God, that was just amazing.
Dabi’s arm around his waist tightened as he pulled him to his feet, he didn’t stop kissing him, hand on his cheek, Hawks was…
He felt good.
Good.
Good.
“Come with me,” the possessed whispered and Hawks let himself be pulled outside Dabi’s apartment, he held his hand as they walked down the stairs and Hawks felt his cheeks become redder and redder.
He didn’t understand why.
He didn’t understand why now, at that action.
At such a simple action.
Outside a few drops of rain were already falling, more and more, Hawks couldn’t understand what they were doing under the rain in an alley such as that.
“Dabi, let’s go back inside, it’s already raining.”
Dabi shook his head. “I want to do something.”
“Like what?”
He smiled. “You remember? Five years ago, at that event?”
Hawks searched inside his blurry memory. “You mean the Hero Gala?”
Dabi nodded. He let go of his hand and moved it in front of Hawks, keeping his other arm behind his back. “May I have this dance, Hawks?”
Hawks didn’t—
He didn’t understand, his heart in his throat, his burning cheeks, God, just why the hell did Dabi have such an effect on him?
But—
He smiled, excited, embarrassed, a small laugh left his lips as he took his hand in his own.
The rain was pouring now, but neither of them cared, so it seemed, already soaking wet, Hawks brought a hand on his shoulder and held his other, while he felt Dabi’s own delicately rest on his waist, God, God, he was so gente, so careful, God—
They hadn’t improved since that time five years before.
At all, they were still pretty uncoordinated, they still stepped on each other’s feet a bit too much, still, still, there was no type of music, only the soft noise of the rain that poured against the street, against them, still, they smiled, still, they moved in that space while laughing between the drops, they were such a ridiculous sight, but that wasn’t important either.
That wasn’t important either.
Still, still, when Hawks slowed down a bit, when he moved his hand from his shoulder to his cheek, his cheek, so cold, soaked, ruined, he….
He felt that same need he felt the first time.
And this time, when he moved forward, half closed eyes and lips brought out a bit, Dabi just squeezed his waist and kissed him again, again, slowly, without any type of rush, of anxious feeling, just, them, under the rain at seven in the evening, the sunset couldn’t be seen from the already less illuminated alley, but to be honest, that wasn’t important either.
The only important part of all that was them.
Only them.
Only them.
And they kissed for an infinite amount of time and they kissed for an amount of time that still wasn’t enough, more, more, more, without a more, without a later.
That wasn’t needed, at that moment.
It wasn’t needed, and Hawks smiled on Dabi’s lips while he kissed him and Dabi smiled on Hawks’s lips while he kissed him and—
Oh.
Oh.
I’m really fucked, uh.
(He was, from a certain point of view.
Hawks knew it far too well.
He couldn’t say he cared.
Despite his head already starting to scream, Hawks…
He felt like in that moment, even if it was just in that moment, it was…
It was alright.
It was alright.
It was alright.)
