The sun warmed the crowds in the sun, not too harshly, the wind carrying a light breeze to help keep them cool.
Sam and Castiel did have to cover their eyes to see Jack and Eileen who were in line for a ride, meanwhile they got something for lunch.
The line they were standing in wasn't moving very much, so they were able to see Jack's excitement grow as his and Eileen's line moved forwards. Somewhat being able to make out the conversation tbey were having with whatever signs and expressions they could see.
They knew they were a bit distracted, but hearing a stranger yell, "Rock on!" pointing at them, caught them off guard.
Sam was confused until he realized he was holding Castiel's hand and they very close to each other. It was very easy to tell they were together.
Sam blushed, but still gave the stranger a thumbs up. Castiel looked at Sam frowning, "Rock on what?" They asked, and looked around once more, "There are no rocks."
There was an undeniable smile on Sam's face, "They weren't talking about a literal rock, it's a sign of celebration."
Celebration? Castiel felt Sam swinging their hands as a hint, looking down, "Oh."
Sam nodded, and Castiel looked back at the direction the stranger went, turning back to Sam, "I'd still prefer a rock."
Sam laughed, nodding, not even surprised, "We can get one before we leave," he promised.
Castiel lit up at the sound of that. In fact, "Can we-"
"We still can't get a hamster." Sam reminded them. They didn't have to look at Castiel to see the grumpy look on their face.
Castiel rolled their eyes, and sighed, "We can start an apocalypse, upset the balance of death and life," Sam felt stares and people looking at them strangely.
He just gave a tight lipped smile as Castiel continued on, "murder monsters and sometimes people,"
Sam pretended he didn't see a couple get out of line after hearing that, "escape the afterlife from Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory, even the Empty, but..." Castiel looked Sam in the eyes, "Getting a hamster, that's too far."
Sam kissed Castiel's temple, "One day. When were not all so busy." Castiel sighed, Sam weakened their defense with that kiss, and both of them knew it.
"Fine," Castiel relented, "but I am quite old." They said, "Maybe I should retire." Sam tilted his head, retirement?
"Want to retire together?" Sam asked, amused at Castiel's efforts for a hamster, but immediately Castiel shook their head,
"No. It might like you better." Sam didn't know how to respond to that. So he just shrugged.
"I highly doubt that but okay." He said, "Only you'll retire." Castiel nodded in approval. Not that they'd truly retire, unfortunately, they care too much about helping others to simply retire. But, it was a nice thought.
Castiel's guard slipped away completely as Sam led them a little further down the line, and rested his head on Castiel's shoulder, "I love you."
Castiel turned their head for a kiss, Sam picked up on it immediately, and followed Castiel's lead, "I love you more," Castiel said lips still pressed together.
The strangers words echoed in their mind, they were right, their love is a wonderful celebration.
