Work Text:
He hated suits. He hated ties. He hated the fact his dad had managed to convince his mom to let the fruitloop take him to this stupid gala in the first place. Danny should have known Vlad would play dirty just to be able to claim Danny was his son to a bunch of socialites! If he didn't care about his own secret identity, he would out Vlad right then and there amongst his oh so precious peers.
Luckily, Danny was able to escape the older halfa and was quickly making his way to the refreshments table. Unfortunately, a sudden hand on his shoulder stopped him before he could reach it. If he wasn't let go right this second, he was gonna bite someone. Just let him eat already!
A boisterous laugh cut off his barely-less-than-murderous thoughts. "Why, this kid right here could be one of mine!" Oh hell no.
Danny would later claim that it was definitely the hunger that drove his next course of action. That or it was Vlad's fault. On second thought? Blame Vlad. It's not like his contentious relationship with the fruitloop wasn't on record, and their knockout throwdown fight on the steps of city hall was legendary by this point. The accusation wouldn't be out of the realm of plausibility. It might even stand up in court, if he was lucky!
What happened was this. When the laughing rich man said that Danny could be his, his mind blanked and he went full on feral on the man. It was only after the fact that he learned he bit Bruce Wayne at his own gala. What's worse, he didn't just bite the man, no. He bit him while also somehow judo flipping him? Or the two events happened separately but close enough together that they might as well have happened at the same time? He wasn't sure, and no one was clarifying that point for him, so he'd likely never know. The point is, Danny physically assaulted a well known, well loved billionaire at his own shindig to the point of drawing blood, and the man's only response (that possibly only Danny could hear, considering it was under his breath as the crowd of people around them gasped in horror, and ghostly enhanced hearing was a thing he was absolutely cursed with) was to say, "Oh, you should be one of mine."
Apparently Bruce Wayne likes adopting kids who physically assault him?! What even was that revelation!? Was Danny going to have to dodge the fruitloop and a crazy billionaire with a masochistic relationship with his kids?! He... Honestly wouldn't be surprised if that were the case. His luck was crap like that.
Danny sighed and shifted in his hard plastic chair. Vlad would have him released soon enough, couldn't let his "little badger" have a record, now could he? I hate stupid rich people galas.

Bruce couldn't help but think about the kid who bit him earlier. His hand had already been cleaned and stitched, his head checked for any bumps or bruises, and the kid (regretfully) had been escorted away by the police, but still his thoughts kept circling back to his earlier realization. That kid could actually be mine. His reaction was such a Damian thing to do, and, despite what his kids seemed to believe, his biological son didn't get all his bloodthirsty tendencies from Talia...
"Hey, B, I looked into the kid's records, his name is Daniel by the way, goes by Danny, and anyway, you're not going to believe what I found. Do you remember a Madeline Nightingale from about fifteen, sixteen years ago? Short, red head, purple eyes? Well, apparently—" Tim continued talking, but Bruce's mind was elsewhere.
Of course he remembered Maddie, she was one of the smartest women he'd ever slept with. They'd actually managed to have a conversation before falling into bed together. Hell, they'd even managed a conversation after falling in bed together. She'd been in town for some science convention and had to leave the next day, but they'd talked a few times since then. Whenever he needed help with some obscure tech, he'd talk to her about it and next thing he knew, he had a working prototype showing up in the mail a few weeks later. He funded some of her research, though it was very niche and honestly kind of beyond him. All he knew was that she and her lab partner had managed to create a portal to another dimension a year ago, a functional one. He had sent her a small congratulations gift, and that was the last he'd spoken to her. He wasn't too concerned, they often went long periods of time without talking.
For a while, he'd been worried she'd call him up after the fact and tell him he was going to be a father, however that never happened, so he left it alone. Now, if what Tim was telling him was true, he should have looked into her more thoroughly. Especially because it was looking more and more likely Danny was his. I'm so sorry for everything I put you through growing up, Alfred. This had to be some sort of penance for being such a terror growing up...
