Work Text:

They are together all the time. That is one thing that has not changed since George got to Florida. The only difference is that they can touch now – and they do, all the time.

George sleeps in Dream’s bed. George wears Dream’s clothes. Dream cooks George breakfast. They play chess on a real board on the living room floor. Dream kisses his neck and makes him laugh. Dream kisses his lips and George kisses back.

He is hardly surprised at the development. Every time he looks up and sees Dream right there in front of him , he gets this feeling in his chest. Not butterflies or anything too sudden, but rather something warm. Something like candlelights on a late night – something, George realizes, like love .

And the craziest thing is that despite the fact that most of their time together is spent doing absolutely nothing, George never gets bored when he’s with Dream. Not really, anyway, because there is always something to talk about.

George thinks it might actually be his favorite thing about his relationship with Dream; the fact that they can just be quiet together and for it to still feel like the most valuable way he can spend his time.

That’s the thing about Dream, he has this presence that makes George feel instantly at ease. He knows he can tell Dream anything, and knows he will always be taken seriously. Their dynamic has always been like that: A push and pull; a safe space.

⎯⎯⎯

Lying on Dream’s chest in Dream’s bed one lazy afternoon, George remembers this thing he read online about how it’s normal to get sleepy around the people you love. It has to do with how relaxed you are when you’re with them and how it releases the right hormones. …Or something.

Either way, he is often reminded of it when he and Dream are hanging out like this, half-asleep despite having woken up at noon.

Because, fine , he’ll admit it – he loves Dream. (Obviously). Plus, the study offers a scientific explanation for why they enjoy each other’s company so much even when they’re not doing anything special. And George is nothing if not a sucker for science.

They have been switching between dozing off and scrolling on their respective phones for the past couple of hours, occasionally tipping the screen toward one another to show off something funny or cool.

Dream is like a human furnace that George has been toasting by like a cat, curled up in the safety of strong arms. It’s easy to get lost in his warmth, to forget that he actually has responsibilities.

But alas.

George sighs and drops his phone onto the mattress, folding his arms on Dream’s broad chest and resting his chin on them. He looks up at his boyfriend.

“I need to go shower,” he announces.

Dream clicks his phone off and takes a deep breath, George rising with his chest. “Okay, let's go take a shower then," he mumbles.

George laughs, his eyes creasing in the corners. “What do you mean 'let's go’– I’m gonna go shower.”

Dream giggles and drags his hands down George’s sides. “Yeah, I get it. We’re gonna go shower,” he replies, being annoying on purpose.

“No,” George draws out, leaning in closer to emphasize his point. “ Me, singular."

Predictably, Dream is only staring at his lips, and George is fully expecting it when he gets a peck on the mouth. That doesn’t stop him from smiling, though, totally smitten.

He reaches up and runs his fingers through Dream’s hair, settling his hand by the blond’s ear.

“Another time, okay?” He says, slightly apologetic. Past experiences have proved that showers don’t exactly tend to be efficient when they take them together.

“Fine, whatever,” Dream says with a short sigh, feigning indifference in the most adorable way.

George grins and moves his hand to squish Dream’s cheeks together. “Aw, baby’s upset,” he pouts teasingly (being annoying on purpose).

“’m not upset," Dream lies, his words getting muffled. His hands slide down to George’s ass and squeeze. A weak retaliation, in George’s opinion, as it only makes him smile more.

“Okay, well I’m going now,” he says simply. But when he tries to push himself up and off Dream, the arms around his back tighten, making him fall forward again.

Dream giggles, “No.”

“Dre-am,” George groans, knocking his head into his boyfriend’s stupidly broad chest.

“Listen, do you promise to come back here as soon as you’re done?”

George dances his gaze across Dream’s features, eyebrows raised slightly in exasperation. Are you being serious? He almost says, but he knows that wouldn’t get him anywhere.

“I promise,” he says instead, adding, “idiot.”

“‘Kay,” Dream loosens his arms with a grin, and George rolls his eyes as he gets up.

“You actually are the clingiest person in existence,” he says, though he is given away by the fond smile on his lips.

“What if I just love you?” Dream counters, giving him puppy eyes from the pillows.

George just shakes his head, grinning like an idiot.
