The following excerpts from Commander Shepard’s official Spectre log have been declassified and unredacted in accordance with the Galactic Open Records Act of 2177.
21/3/2183. It still feels strange to be in command of the Normandy; I had been looking forward to serving under Anderson. He’s putting a good face on it, but it’s a hatchet job, and we both know it.
Speaking of good faces…I think the first lead we’ll be following is Matriarch Benezia’s daughter. I reviewed the dossier and she is extremely cute and very smart likely to have useful information on both the Protheans and her mother. Yes. An entirely professional interest which falls within the very broad scope of my investigation and authority.

13/4/2183. I still don’t know if it was the right call to bring Liara to Noveria. We were able to avoid the worst-case scenario: losing my crush a valuable team member to Benezia’s influence. But Benezia proved too far gone for her daughter to save. I suppose at least they got to say goodbye to each other; the batarians didn’t provide me with the same grace.
Liara seems to be coping as well as can be expected. I should– I shouldn’t. What do you even say to someone who’s just helped kill their own mother? Mercy killing, self-defense, the necessities of war: however you want to spin it, I just killed my future mother-in-law a close friend’s only parent.
Fuck.

28/4/2183. We’ve melded twice now. The visions are as strange and chaotic as ever. This was the warning the Protheans left the galaxy? No specifics, no advice, no clues. Maybe it wasn’t a warning after all: just a dying scream into the void.
Although, if it’s not a warning, then why do I always feel my pulse race and knees go weak whenever I look into those intense, black eyes Liara and I review the vision?

2/5/2183. Commander Jane T’Soni. Mrs. Jane Shepard-T’Soni. Dr. and Cmdr. T’Soni-Shepard. Jane and Liara Shepard. Spectre Jane T. Shepard.

20/5/2183. Anderson taking the fall for me again. Can’t let this become a habit. If we succeed I can make it up to him. If we fail…well, I won’t live long enough to be making habits.
We’re on the way to Ilos. We’ve collected the clues, solved the puzzle…and paid the price. Kaiden, if you’re watching us, wish me luck with my interspecies booty call life or death mission for the fate of the galaxy.
