Work Text:

“C’mon, babe,” Jane Shepard nudged her girlfriend from across the cafe table. “You’ve seen the way Garrus looks at both of us. What’s the worst that could happen?”

Liara snorted. “That’s what you said about that fake distress signal. And the asari with a captured sister. And the unusual shipping logs from that freighter on Feros.”

“Okay, I guess that’s fair,” Shepard replied with a wince. “But it’s not like Garrus has a squad of pirates or Geth in his back pocket to spring on us.”

“He could have C-Sec connections,” Liara argued, somewhat feebly. Shepard smiled: finally, Liara was seeing reason. Or at least she was out-stubborning her girlfriend. Take that, asari patience!

“I’m a Spectre; I outrank them.” Shepard folded her arms over her chest with a satisfied grin.

“Fine, we’ll just tell Garrus, then,” Liara agreed. “But if he–”

“If he what?” asked the confused turian. “Sorry, was I interrupting a date? I just thought I’d go for a nice walk through the Presidium, and I saw the two of you.” God, Shepard thought, he was cute when he was flustered. The way his mandibles fluttered? She just wanted to kiss them.

Liara coughed meaningfully, snapping Shepard from her reverie. “The Commander and I,” and she definitely saw Garrus twitch with pleasure at the invocation of her rank, “were wondering if you might like to join our romantic relationship.” Just going to lay it out there, huh? Shepard wondered. Take that, asari subtlety!

“I. Um.” Garrus paused and tapped his talons on the table where he stood. “All three of us, huh?” He blinked, and to Jane’s surprise, seemed to be taking his time to consider what she thought would be a no-brainer of a choice. “Just to be clear, this isn’t a trick or a hallucination? Because I’m really not sure what you two lovebirds are getting out of this.”

Shepard reached over and gave him a pinch. “It couldn’t possibly be that we want to see how things go with our attractive mutual friend,” she teased, grinning madly up at him.

Garrus narrowed his eyes. “Is this human sarcasm? Liara, you’d tell me the truth, wouldn’t you?”

“You’re asking the Shadow Broker that?” she whispered, clearly also enjoying herself. “To think, Shepard, we were worried.”

You were worried,” Shepard countered. “I knew we’d be fine. Although I still haven’t heard a yes from you, Vakarian.”

“Is that an order, Commander?” he purred back.

“Only if you want it to be,” she replied, starting to feel more at ease.

“Goddess, is this how you’re going to be all of the time?” Liara muttered quietly to herself, and made a note to herself to set agreed-upon limits on banter.

“Yes,” Garrus and Shepard said in unison. “And, to your earlier question, Commander…also yes.” Liara stifled a snort of laughter and used her biotics to pull a spare chair across the café for Garrus to join them.
