Summary
For years, Rita thought she’d know where her life would lead her. The plan had been immaculate. After graduation, she would stay in Aretuza as a perceptress's apprentice, then she would earn the title Mistress of Magic and become a teacher herself. But as always when you think your future is carved in stone, destiny finds a way to put a spoke in your wheel.
Instead of staying behind the walls of Aretuza, Rita is forced out of her comfort zone and onto the back of a horse – on the behest of her beloved Rectoress no less. A stipend for a dwimveandra is a grand opportunity that Rita would much rather let pass. Alas, the decision isn't hers to make, and so she is forced to comply and leave not only Aretuza, but also the place under Tissaia de Vries' wing that she so desperately wished to earn.
Rita can't, for the love of all the gods she never believed in, understand why she is put into this situation. And maybe that's exactly why she needs it.
