Work Text:

Somewhere at an airport in Mobotropolis...

Sally and Nigel stand in front of Private Jet, which is preparing to take off.

"Now, Sally," Nigel spoke. "I'm going to need you to watch over the kingdom until I'm back, okay? The meetings with South Island should only take a day or two."

"Okay, Daddy," Sally answered her Father

"Can I trust you to do this while I'm gone?" Nigel asked his daughter.

"Of course! I'm 16, I'm not a kid anymore." Sally replied.

Nigel chuckled slightly. "I'll stop treating you like a kid once you stop calling me "Daddy"."

"Fair enough," Sally smirked. "But trust me, I can take care of the kingdom for a day or two."

"You're right, you're a strong girl. And you've handled way more than most of your age have, and you've handled it well," Nigel smiled, proud of the woman his little girl has become over the years. "I better get on now, don't wanna keep the pilot waiting."

Nigel patted Sally on the head, before heading onto the plane, and waving her goodbye through the plane window.

Before she knew it, he was gone. And with that came new responsibilities she had never had before. The entire kingdom was now in her hands until her Father returns.

"Hello, Princess," a voice said from behind her shoulder, as she quickly jumped in fright.

"Don't scare me like that, Nicole," Sally chuckled, turning around to look at the Holo-Lynx.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you, Sally," Nicole said as if she did something wrong.

"Oh- no, no. You didn't do anything wrong, Nicole. It's just something people say," Sally assured her.

"Your father is gone," Nicole told Sally.

"Yeah? And so?" Sally asked Nicole, confused about why she was telling her something she had just witnessed.

"And so that means you must fill in for his royal duties until he is back," Nicole explained to Sally.

"I know, how's that relevant right now? It's not like he had anything planned for today. I know my Father, he likely cleared out everything for today. So I highly doubt I need to be in a rush to begin my royal duties," Sally explained to Nicole.

"I'm aware of that. I was gonna say that you need to get into more fitting clothing before you can begin. Your usual wardrobe is not nearly fitting enough to do royal duties in," Nicole explained to Sally, trying not to imply her "tomboyish" attire was informal, even though it quite is.

"You mean like put on a dress?" Sally asked Nicole, despite already knowing the answer quite clearly.

"Yes, I do. I know dresses are not really your thing. But I highly recommend you wear one. You do not want to leave a sour taste in the mouths of the people with the first time you have responsibility over the kingdom," Nicole reasoned with Sally.

"I get it, I get it. I'll put one on," Sally admitted defeat, despite never actually protesting the idea.

Nicole grinned, excited to help Sally pick one out.

"What are we waiting for, then?" Nicole grabbed Sally's hand and pulled her along. Not all so differently than Sally had done to Nicole when Nicole had first revealed her physical form. Nicole has come a long way since they first met. Back when Sally was young, Nicole was emotionless and unable to have a physical form.
Nicole had always been there for Sally. Even if she could not feel sympathy for Sally at her darkest of times back then. She still always listened.

2 hours later. After they picked out some dresses for Sally and tried them on.

Sally exited the bathroom wearing a blue dress, similar to the color of the vest she normally wore. Nicole clapped as she sat on the edge of Sally's bed, watching the Princess dawn her dress.

"I don't know about this, Nicole. I just don't think dresses are my style. And everyone already knows that. And it's just 2 days. Nobody will care," Sally sighed, looking down at her dress.

"Nonsense!" Nicole playfully shouted. "I think you look gorgeous!" She smiled brightly, standing up to stare the Princess in the eyes.

"I'm sure you would look prettier in it than me," Sally teased, giving a smirk to Nicole and etching her face uncomfortably close to Nicole's.

"O-Oh," Nicole's eyes darted away from Sally's face. "I'm sure that's not true."

"Oh, really? Why don't you prove it then?" Sally smirked at Nicole, again. If Sally wasn't flirting with her, then Nicole knew she would have to look up what flirting is again. Because there was no way Sally wasn't teasing her on purpose. Nicole wasn't sure if Sally even liked her that way. Especially since she was not only a woman but also a sentient computer.

"Alright then!" Nicole giggled as she waved her finger around in a circle, as her clothing transformed from her regular attire to a replica of Sally's dress, but in the shade of purple, Nicole's regular outfit is in.

"See!" Sally grabbed Nicole by the shoulders and dragged her in front of a mirror. "You rock that dress WAY better than me."

"Hmm, I guess you're right," Nicole giggled. "But that doesn't mean you look any less pretty."

Sally blushed slightly. Nicole had never talked to her like that before. But also, Sally had never talked to Nicole like she had moments ago, either.

"Oh wait," Sally checked the clock that laid on her nightstand. "We spent way too long on the dress. We need to get going. It's about the time my Father listens to people's suggestions, complaints, and askings." Sally reminded Nicole in a rushed tone, before quickly heading to the door. Although it would be way more effective to just have a suggestion box. Nigel still liked to take one day out of the week to listen to his kingdom in person.

Nicole grabbed her handheld and followed Sally out of the room, and into the hallway. Completely forgetting that She is still wearing the nearly identical dress as Sally. Sally and Nicole barge through the door and rush into the room. 2 Mobians stood there waiting. A Koala standing by the throne, wearing royal-like formal wear. Sally remembers seeing Him around the place sometimes. He's likely the one who normally helps Nigel with these in-person events. And then there was an adult female fox, seemingly a regular citizen. "Great, she left someone waiting on her," Sally thought to herself.

"Your late," the Koala says in a monotone-yet irritated voice. Which is fair enough, Sally left Him alone with this Lady for 17 minutes. She couldn't begin to even imagine how awkward that is.

"Sorry, sorry. We got a bit held up," explained as she sat onto her father's throne.

"We?" The Koala asked, too busy focusing on Sally to see the other person who stumbled into the room with her.

"I hope you don't mind, but I thought Nicole could join us," Sally sorta stated in the form of a question. While Nicole nervously waved at the Koala.

The Koala stared at the Holo-Lynx's dress and then at Sally's. He wasn't in any particular mood to question it and moved on.

"I suppose that's allowed," the Koala mumbled turning towards the fox who had silently been watching this all go down. "I believe its time we begin."

35 minutes of listening to people rant later.

"Ugh!" Sally slumped back in the throne. "Who knew listening to people's ideas and problems was this tiresome?!" Sally said as she threw her hands into the air.

"It's okay, Sally. You only have to do this for another 25 minutes," Nicole told Sally, the former standing right beside the throne, opposite side as the Koala.

"Nicole, that's just 10 minutes less than what we've already done," Sally looked at Nicole.

"At least you're more than halfway done," Nicole said, looking on the bright side. She closed her eyes briefly and smiled.

Sally knew exactly how to make this more interesting.

"Kibs, could you fetch my mother's old throne?" Sally asked the Koala, who's name turned out to be Kibs.

"Not too intrude, but... Why..?" Kibs asked skeptically, squinting his small beedy Koala eyes.

"Please..?" Sally asked like a little child asking for chocolate. Although she was a 16 year old asking for him to go get a dead woman's throne that is who knows where.

"Ugh, fine," he pinched that little area between his eyes. Before he walked off to go get the throne. Of which he still had no idea where it was or how he'd get it into the- Oh hey, it's in the corner of the room with a big sheet over it. How convenient. After some arguing about furniture placement, and 6 minutes of moving the same 2 things around. Nigel's/Sally's throne was now moved over a bit to make room for her deceased mother throne.

"May I ask why your mother's throne is now beside you?" Nicole asked Sally, confused and curiously.

"For you, silly!" Sally giggled.

"For me? But I am not a royal, nor do I require to rest my legs ever..?" Nicole asked and stated to Sally. Seemingly more confused than before.

"Yeah, but don't you wanna sit down anyway? I'm sure it's a lot more fun than just standing there. Plus... We could sit next to each other..." Sally's eyes looked away from Nicole nervously, add her face reddened.

"O-Oh... Sure!" Nicole waddled over to the second throne and say on it, just now realizing the dress, and how this must've all looked like to Kibs.

The remainder of the "event" goes by. With strange looks by people here and there. Yet nobody with enough balls to mention how it looked, or to ask about it. Nicole doesn't know how, but at some point her and Sally's hands ended up intertwining as they sat there. Despite the day not even nearly being over yet, this somehow has already been one of the most flirty days Nicole had spent with Sally.

"And, that is it," Kibs sighed a sigh of relief, announcing that the longest 60 minutes of Sally's life was over.

"Finally! I don't know how I would've been able to get through that without either of you guys!" Sally also sighed a sigh of relief, removed her hand from Nicole's. And got up from the throne and stretched. Nicole missed the warmth of Sally's hand.

"Well, Nicole. What's next on the agenda?" Sally asked and turned to the Holo-Lynx.

"Well, uh. Nothing!" Nicole cheerfully, but awkwardly said. "It looks like your Father really cleared out his schedule for you... Like a LOT."

"Oh. Well I guess we got some time to kill then. Whatcha wanna do? I don't think Bunnie and Antoine are busy today, we could go hang out with them?" Sally suggested an idea.

"I don't really care what we do... I just wanna spend time with you," Nicole said, not realizing she said the second half out loud.

"Wait, wait! No! I didn't mean it like that!" She quickly stood up and waved her hands frantically back and forth, redness swelling up in her face. Rambling and fumbling her words.

Sally simply just smiled and gave Nicole a peck on the cheek. Which very quickly silenced the Holo-Lynx. Nicole was in a total state of disbelief. She put her hand on the cheek that Sally had kissed, and just stared into Sally's eyes, not fully paying attention to the world around her.

"You just- My cheek- Your lips- I-" Nicole was failing to even think straight(ha ha funny joke bc she's not thinking straight because she's gay my humor sucks). Nicole finally decided to give up on words, and put her hands up to her face to hide her eyes and blush.

"Oh- Nicole, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to fluster you!" Sally apologized, putting her hands on Nicole's arms and pulling her hands away from her face.

"No, you don't need to apologize, it's not your fault. I just wasn't... Expecting that," Nicole assured Sally.

"So... Would you like another one, with warning this time?" Sally not so slickly asked.

"Actually, could you... Do it on the lips this time..?" Nicole asked, avoiding eye contact, and fiddling with her fingers.

Sally simply smiled, before resting her hand on Nicole's cheek and bringing their faces closer together. Until their lips met, and locked together. Sharing a warm embrace. Nicole wrapped her arms around Sally's waist. The girls stood there for what felt like minutes, but was likely only 10 seconds. Eventually, Sally removed her lips and tongue from Nicole's to gasp for air. Hand still on Nicole's cheek, and Nicole's arms still around her waist. They stood there staring into each other's eyes. Both breathed heavily, despite Nicole not even having lungs. Unfortunately, a certain third wheel had to ruin the moment.

"I'll just... See myself out..." Kibs pointed to the exit, and left.

Sally and Nicole both bursted out with laughter.

"Does this mean you like me? Like like me?" Nicole nervously asked.

"Of course it does! I love you!" Sally bombarded Nicole's neck with kisses all the way down it.

"The fact I'm not technically real does not bother you..?" Nicole asked Sally. "The truth is... I'm just a computer that is all so desperate to feed itself lies and delusions that it can ever be like an organic being, and truly feel emotions, or be alive..." Or at least, this is what she told herself to be true. Sally, however, would heavily disagree.

"Nicole... You're one of the most important people in the world to me. You're just as real and alive as me, Sonic, or the others. And you never forget that, okay?" Sally closed her eyes, smiled, and rested her forehead on Nicole's forehead.

"Although, you're technically wrong about the alive thing. The sentiment is still much appreciated." Nicole said as she too closes her eyes, smiles, and enjoys the comfort and peace of the moment.

A bit later at Bunnie and Antoine's house.

"Didya hear that, Sugah-Twan?" Bunnie said, looking at Antoine who is literally standing right next to her.

"Oui amour, I'm standing right here." Antoine chuckled as Bunnie aggressively patted her back.

"Ah still can't believe ya gone got ya self a girlfriend, Sally-Girl!" Bunnie said nudging Sally's shoulder

Sonic comes bursting through the window.

"DID I HEAR SAL GOT A GIRLFRIEND?!" Sonic began to nudge Sally as well.

"Sally got a girlfriend?!" Amy came out of a couch cushion.

"Wha-" Sally began to question before being interrupted.

"Sally has a girlfriend?"  Rouge came from behind the TV.

"HEH?!" Sally was dumbfounded.

"Good job, Sally." Big appeared from BEHIND A LAMP.

"WHAT THE FUCK?!" Sally looked around to see the entire house filled with people.

The End.
