This is Nice

Summary:

Tangle is hungry, and so invites Whisper to get a bite to eat at a cafe. And then head to a park. Little does Tangle know. Whisper is a little more than happy to see her, and decides today's the day she asks Tangle the question that's been eating her up.

Notes:

Just wanna state that I likely will make a couple more whispangle fics following this continuity. And that this takes place in the same continuity as my Sally X Nicole fic (2 Dresses, 2 Thrones). South Island having a government like America's, and West side Island having the Acorn Empire.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It was a normal day in Spiral Hill.
Children play outside. People talk and have fun.
And Tangle comes zipping around lamp posts.
The lemur swung around the lamp post and landed on her feet. She knocked on the door before letting herself in.

"Hey, Jewel!" She called out for her best friend. "I'm here!"

"Coming!" Jewel cried out from the other room.
She came out of the room, coffee in hand.
She pulled up a chair for Tangle to sit in.

"So, how have you been enjoying your vacation from the Restoration?" Tangle asked the Beetle as She sat into the chair.

"If by vacation you mean Lanolin and Amy prying me away from my desk. Then well, it's been pretty good. It's nice to sit down and relax for once," Jewel chuckled.

"That's great to hear!" Tangle smiled brightly. "I wish you could spend time off more often. But any time I get with my best bud is enough!"

"I'm glad you're not upset," Jewel admitted to Tangle.

"Why would I be?" Tangle asked, seeming to not understand.

"Like you said. I hardly get any time off. We hardly get to do anything often anymore..." Jewel looked down.

"That's not your fault. You have such an important job. And many rely on you to lead the Restoration," Tangle out her hand on Jewel's shoulder.

"I guess you're right," Jewel admitted. Smiling at her friend who was so understanding.

"Wanna go get a bite to eat? I'm STARVING!" Tangle over exaggerated the starving part.

"Sorry, Tangle. But I was actually about to get ready and see my brother. He got married a few years back. Just had his first kid 2 months ago," Jewel informed the lemur.

"Oh, good for him! Tell him I said hi!" Tangle said, excited to be able to see the cold some day.

Jewel chuckled. "Don't worry I'll let him know."

"If you were about to get ready, then I should get out of your hair," Tangle said as she got out of her seat.

"Be safe," Jewel waved.

"You have fun at Astro's (Jewel's brother) place!" Tangle waved as she left the mineral museum.

"Well... Better find something else to do..." Tangle stopped and pondered. Putting a finger on her chin.

She pulled out her phone and looked at her contacts and started scrolling through them. Stopping once she saw Whisper's name. She tapped on Whisper's name and sent her a message.

"Hi."

"Hey."

"Wanna get sumn 2 eat?"

"Sure. Where at?"

"Cafe in Spiral?"

"Sure. Will be there soon."

Tangle pumped her first into the air. "Success."

5 minutes later.

Whisper walked into Spiral Hill. Smiling a kind of smile she only ever smiles when she is with Tangle. Whisper didn't understand how someone like Tangle was able to slip her way past her cold exterior so easily. If you told Whisper from before she met Tangle that someone would ever make her smile like this just from the thought of having lunch with them. She would call you crazy. But low and behold, here she is.

"Hey, Whisper!" Tangle bounced forwards at Whisper, who slowly approached Tangle. Awfully similar too the time Whisper first visited Spiral Hill. But this time Whisper didn't push her away with her wispon. She hugged her back and smiled.

"H'lo, Tangle," Whisper said as she pulled away from the hug.

"How are you?" Tangle asked Whisper excitedly.

"Good, how about you?" Whisper asked the question back to Tangle.

"Hungry, that's what! Let's go and eat," Tangle playfully laughed. Whisper very quickly joining in. They walked into the cafe. They had been there many times, it was Tangle's favorite cafe in town. Whisper also liked it too. It had some good pound cake. The two bought some food and sat down to eat. Tangle got a strawberry doughnut and Whisper got some pound cake (strawberry as well, Tangle insisted she try it).

"Yummy!" Tangle said gleefully after taking a bite of the doughnut.

Whisper took a bite out of her pound cake, as she watched the lemur enjoy her doughnut, unaware of the wolf watching her.

"You ever thought of where you wanna live once you're ready to settle down and get a home?" Tangle asked curiously.

"Not sure," Whisper tilted her head. "Can't even get a home yet. Not enough money and not old enough."

"I know. I'm just saying it sucks you have to live in a tent. Makes me all sad to think about," Tangle pouted.

"Don't worry about me. I'll be fine" Whisper encouraged Tangle.

"I'd offer you to stay at me and my parent's house. But there isn't enough rooms. And I don't know if my Dad would take kindly to some stranger in the house," Tangle rambled on.

Whisper liked listening to Tangle ramble. Even though most find it annoying, Whisper listened to every word she said when Tangle would ramble. Unless she was trying to pay attention to something else, of course.

Sometime later, Tangle and Whisper are sitting on a park bench together.

"And then Sonic spin dashed into the Badnik and destroyed it!" Tangle finished a story of a battle she and Sonic had with some Badniks a few days ago.

Tangle leaned over and rested her head on Whisper's shoulders. Closing her eyes and taking a sigh of relief.

"This is nice," Tangle said, calmly.

"Mhm," Whisper said, watching the Wisps play around in the park. Her focus on the Wisps is quickly interrupted as she feels something go around her back and to her side. She looks down to find Tangle's tail is wrapped around her waist. Whisper's face turns a hue of red. She wasn't quite expecting this today. Although she didn't mind it. Tangle's tail is quite comforting. And in all honestly? Whisper had a big crush on Tangle. A crush that she was too afraid to tell her feelings of to Tangle. She didn't want Tangle to get hurt by someone like Mimic. Or to have Tangle not feel the same way. What if things got awkward between them and Tangle didn't wanna be friends anymore. Whisper knew that Tangle would never want to stop being friends over that, but the fear still lingered in her mind. But this crush was weighing on her. She wants to be able to be with Tangle, but she's afraid. But she knows today has to be the day she tells Tangle. She can't let it linger any longer, or else it's going to eat her alive.

"Tangle..." Whisper said in a somber tone.

"Yeah?" Tangle asked, her eyes still shut.

"I think I have something to tell you..." Whisper said, unsure if she really wants to go through with this.

Tangle's interest peaked. She opened her eyes and lifted her head. "Yeah?"

"I've been thinking... And I can't get this thought out of my mind... You're so nice, kind, and funny. And... You've made a dark time in my life so much brighter... I just feel so empty without you. Being around you makes me so happy- And... I think- No, I know I... LOVE you. And I just need to know if you feel the same way..." Whisper's eye open wide, waiting for a response.

The lemur sat in shock. Mouth and eyes wide open. Seconds... Relentless, painfully silent seconds. Before suddenly Tangle quickly smiled, and embraced Whisper in a hug.

"Oh, Whisper! I love you too!" The lemur cheered, squeezing the wolf.

"I love you so much. And I was so afraid you wouldn't love me back. I even put a little heart next to your name on my phone contacts!" Tangle said in a fast and overjoyed tone.

The two sat there hugging for a while longer. Eventually letting go and just sitting there, staring straight forwards.

"So like... Does this make us girlfriends or like..." Tangle asked, unsure how this all works.

"Sure. I mean... If that's what you want," Whisper said nervously.

"That's what I want," Tangle replied without any doubt.

"Then yeah... I guess that makes us girlfriends," Whisper answered Tangle's question.

Silence... Awkward silence.

"C-Can I... Can w-we kiss..?" Tangle nervously stuttered out a question.

As soon as Tangle finished the question, Whisper immediately grabbed both sides of Tangle's face and pulled her into a kiss. Tangle was shocked for a second. But quickly leaned into the kiss, and closed her eyes. They wisps very quickly noticed what was going on and decided to pester the couple. Flying over and spring in their language in a taunting tone.

Whisper pulled out of the kiss. "Stop you guys!" She muttered in an embarrassed tone.

"What're they saying?" Tangle inquired, with a curious look.

"N-Nothing..." Whisper said as she slid the mask onto her face, hiding her embarrassed look as the wisps giggle.

Tangle could only assume that the wisps were making fun of Whisper for kissing her.

"C'mon, guys. You can't have all the fun embarrassing Whisper!" Tangle giggled before she grabbed Whisper's hand and kissed it.

Whisper then pushed the mask tighter against her face and looked away from Tangle. "T-Tangle!"

"I'm sorry, what can I say? It's your fault your so damn cute," Tangle cheerfully smiled at Whisper.

Whisper should've seen this coming. Not even five minutes after becoming a couple and Tangle is doing everything in her power to embarrass her.

"Hey, I heard Jewel's older bro had a kid. Jewel's there visiting. Wanna see if we can catch her while she's still there?" Tangle asked, sensing that it was time to stop teasing Whisper.

"Sure," Whisper said, taking her mask off.

The couple, and the wisps stood up and began to walk out of the park. The lemur and wolf locking their hands together as they walked.
