Chapter Text
Once upon a time there was a town, no different from another. Now in this town there was a prince, but not the ones you’ve seen in fairy tale stories that live in big beautiful castles and wear the finest clothes; but the one you hear about the rule high school in teen romcoms. His name was Seungmin and he was your stereotypical jock. Dated almost every hot girl in school, played on the states best high school football league, partied, but most of all he was a complete ass.
Most people hated him but loved to be liked by him. Pretty privilege was apparent in his day to day life and he knew it was true, using it to his advantage in getting what he wants.
But just like how the story goes, fate will turn you into what you are on the inside… an ugly beast.
The day before the incident a girl had came up to Seungmin to offer him a gift, a beautiful bright red rose. He had never seen her in their school before, she ugly in Seungmins eyes. She wasn’t thin or had clear skin, she had crooked teeth and these ugly hazel eyes. Seungmin had laughed in her face through in her rose to the floor and rubbed it into the floor with his shoe, glaring at her the whole time while she watched in shock.
“I don’t take things from pigs like you. Do yourself a favor and go ask a frog out since they are the only creatures dumb enough to want someone as ugly as you” he had said when she looked up with tears in her eyes.
It just so happened that on the day he had broken the heart of yet another girl, the walk back to his house would end with karma. The clouds had swarmed together and made an ugly shade of gray. It was the biggest storm the town had ever seen. The thunder roared like a lion, the wind whistled as it roughly blew through the trees, the rain came dropping like bullets, and the lightning seemed to strike with purpose. With to much of a purpose.
Seungmin ran through the harsh weather with his hood pulled above his head. He hadn’t driven his car to school that morning because he felt like walking and the buses didn't go to his house, so he was left with running home in the rain. The world had become dark, all that surrounded him was the blurriness from the rain. He kept running though hoping to find shelter.
Seungmin doesn’t remember much of what had happened that night but he remembers running and then feeling this sharp pain on his lower back, as if someone had stabbed him. He felt the pain rush through every vein he had as he fell to the ground. That was where he had blacked out. And there he laid for hours with rain pouring down on him in the darkness that was surrounding him, only to be found after the storm had hit.
His life changed after that night.
Seungmin POV:
Look at me, I’m hideous. Apparently I had been struck with lightning on the way back to my home a year ago. That lightning bolt ruined everything. The place it had hit was right on some important nerves, damaging them in the process, it had taken away my ability to play football. The electricity that had coursed through my vein left behind lightning scars all over my face and body. It had burned all the hair follicles leaving me bald everywhere.
Even after I healed up no one recognized me and I wanted to keep it that way. My parents had the school change my name on their roster so no one can find out who I was before I became this beast.
I kept my hood up and had a mask on everyday. I couldn’t let them see me. There was a time where people tried to reveal my face but it only ended with someone getting their knee dislocated. No ones tried since which I’m am heavily grateful for.
Life like this was miserable. Everyday I wake up dreading the fact that I’m even alive. This morning started like every morning. I wake up, get ready, avoid any meals, and eat breakfast with my head down with my parents. It was normally quiet now, only the clinking of the silverware hitting the bowls or plates. So it was weird when my mom spoke up
She coughed, “Umm sweetie you got something in the mail this morning.” She said. I almost lifted my head to look at her in confusion, who would send me mail? “Here you go son.” She said as he slid it across the table, ending perfectly in my view.I mumbled a thanks while taking the red envelope and put it to the side, I’ll read it later.
I put on my mask and threw up my hood, grabbing my backpack and the envelope on the way out of my house. On the drive to school I couldn’t help but to keep glancing at the red envelope in my passenger seat. Something about it was alluring to me. I knew I had to open it so as soon as I pulled into the schools parking lot I ripped it open.
“Dear Oh Seungmin,
Remember me? The girl you had stomped on her rose? Yeah that is me. People like you are the people who don’t even deserve to live, you're lucky I wanted to see you suffer. If you want your old life back all you have to do is give someone a rose. Sounds easy right? But it can’t just be anyone, it has to be someone who loves you, can’t be one sided either. If you don’t find someone by the anniversary of your accident than you’ll stay like this forever. Good luck ”
