Blue roses
-But Shinichi! –a young brunette around 17 years old exclaimed loudly.
-I said no. –A young man, also brown-haired with blue eyes and around the same age as the girl, refuted with a neutral tone of voice.
-It's your birthday! You can't stay locked up here! –The girl yelled once more.
However, she let out a frustrated sigh when she saw how her friend only crossed his legs and settled even more in the soft chair in which he was reading quietly, ignoring the words of the young woman in front of him.
-Shinichi... please... it's your 18th birthday... it's something important and you have to celebrate it... just this once... –begged the brunette looking at him with sad and pleading eyes.
The brown-haired man looked at her, turned his gaze from her to his book in clear hesitation, and after a couple of minutes in silence, he sighed, closed his little entertainment, and got up.
-Only this time... –he agreed with a defeated voice.
The young woman squealed happily and grabbed his arm before she began to drag him towards the exit. She was thrumming with excited energy and didn’t pay attention to the way he was stumbling behind her, working hard to keep her rapid pace.
-Wait for me to take my things at least! –the young man yelled, but he could barely take the house keys and his phone once they passed quickly through the hall of the house, because she refused to let him go, lest he changed his mind at the last minute.
He sighed even more resigned and let her drag him wherever she wanted since he hadn't really paid attention when she told him where she wanted to take him. They walked for a few minutes and then called a taxi. The brunette gave the address to the driver and the vehicle started on its way.
-And where were we going? –he finally asked as she looked out the window with eyes shining in eagerness.
-You didn't listen when I told you before, did you? –she replied, frowning at him. Seeing the look of “isn't it obvious?” from the boy she sighed. – Sonoko gave me tickets to a magic show. She would have liked to go, but since she would be out of the country, she decided that I could take them and use them instead. –she explained once more, voice exasperated.
-Magic? And since when did I like magic Ran? –he questioned, looking at her with a raised eyebrow.
-I know you don't really believe in magic but... Sonoko said that one of the young magicians that works for this company has been highly praised and that surely even you would be surprised by his show. –she hummed, giggling a bit after saying those words.
For he doesn't know how many times, the brown-haired man sighed and simply turned to look through the window at the landscape again, thus continuing on their way in silence.
They arrived about 20 minutes later. The brunette took him to the theater where the event was to be held and he watched as a huge line of people gathered at the entrance. He frowned in annoyance, thinking that he would have to get into the queue, but his friend just laughed in amusement.
-Relax, that queue is to buy tickets. As we already have them, we only have to enter and sit in our place. –she explained. The boy's brow furrowed again.
-What time is this supposed to start then? –he inquired, looking at her mildly annoyed and with his arms crossed in front of his chest.
-Well... in three quarters of an hour. –she answered softly, avoiding to look into his eyes, knowing well how he would react at her words.
-Are you going to make me wait 45 minutes!? –As predicted, he yelled angrily at hearing her reply.
-It's just... I didn't know how long it would take me to convince you to come so... I decided to go with lots of time to spare, just in case. –she apologized pouting cutely at him.
The young man groaned and began to walk towards the entrance while deep in his own thoughts. It is true what his friend had said. She showed up at his house very early, it was barely 9 in the morning, and she had started chattering about something to which he didn't pay attention because he had just gotten up and had not yet taken the elixir that gave him his life. Yes, exactly that, his beloved and indispensable coffee.
While he prepared his beloved drink, she kept talking nonstop. When he finished eating, she was still talking non-stop. And after changing his clothes and sitting in his personal library, aka his father's office, to read one of his beloved Sherlock Holmes books, she was still talking.
It wasn't until she asked him if he accepted that he looked at her as if only just realizing that she was there. At that moment, his best friend sighed in frustration and she summarized what she had been telling him for almost two hours. Once he vaguely heard something about celebrating his birthday, he had refused without hesitation, but in the end, he had given in, which is why he was now about to see a magic show.
He let out another tired sigh, which he didn’t know how many times he did the same that morning, and looked at the watch on his wrist, noticing that he had been deep in his own thoughts for 35 minutes already.
He looked around confused, realizing that he was already sitting in his place and many more people were sitting in their respective chairs, in that huge theater. He now looked at his brown-haired friend, who was watching her phone’s screen intendedly, but when she felt his gaze on her, she turned to look at him questioningly.
-Is there something wrong? –She asked, tilting her head to one side and her eyes denoted curiosity on them.
-No, nothing. –he answered as he returned his gaze to the stage.
Their seats were in a very good place: in the center of the theatre and in the third row, which allowed him to see the stage more clearly. He smiled, thinking that he would surely be able to discover the tricks behind all this prepared and staged show.
In that moment, a young woman came out, blonde with jade eyes and wearing a bunny outfit, while she spoke into a microphone that she held in her right hand.
-Thank you very much for coming to our magic show. In a few minutes we will start so make yourself comfortable in your seats and enjoy. –she said with a radiant smile on her elegant features.
The audience applauded with delight and she walked off the stage with a calm step. As soon as she turned around, he could see the rabbit tail of her suit move and a slight giggle escaped him, earning a confused look from his companion.
-What’s so funny? –she questioned in a low voice.
-Nothing.... it's just that they know how to win the attention of the public, especially men. –he commented amused.
-Why do you say that? –she inquired now, frowning slightly, clearly not understanding why he said those words.
-Well... having a girl like that wearing such a provocative outfit immediately makes men look at her. –he explained lowly. – On the other hand, surely now a good-looking man will come out so that the women will wait anxiously for someone equally or more handsome to come out again. –he finished telling her, smirking.
She was going to protest that this was not the case, but at that moment a dark-haired, amber-eyed man in his twenties appeared on the scene. The brunette's smile widened and she also laughed with amusement when she saw that her friend was completely right.
-Ladies and gentlemen. Thank you very much for coming. Our first artist will do a show that will leave you with your heart racing. –he announced with a deep and silky voice, earning the sigh of love from many of the young people who were in the place.
The laughter of both friends was present again, luckily the applause of the spectators helped to hid it. Thus began the function. One after another, the artists of that company did their shows, some more complicated and flashy than others, and the brunette found himself trying to see the trick behind each one of them.
He felt proud of himself when he was able to solve each one of them, even if his friend was glaring at him with a pout on her features while telling him that the fun was not knowing.
However, no one could really blame him. He was a detective after all. He was curious by nature and he loved to solve any type of mysteries he encountered in his life.
Almost two hours passed and the last of the artists was finally going to come out. The brown-haired girl next to him was excited because that was the boy that her friend had talked so much about and she was very curious to know how good he really was.
The blue-eyed man, on the other hand, was feeling a little bit tired. He also didn't think however the magician that came out next was so worth the hype. In addition, he had managed to unmask the other artists, so he was sure that this one would be the same as them.
That's when it happened. A young man, about 17-18 years old, appeared on stage, behind a smoke screen. He was dressed in a matching black suit with a purple shirt that fit him perfectly because he looked really attractive. Although, what caught the detective’s attention the most was the young man's face. He also had brown hair, but unlike his own, this one was styled in a messy and sexy disarray, and he had electric indigo eyes.
For a moment he thought they might be twins, because of the resemblance between them, but he knew he was an only child so, he dismissed that thought pretty soon.
He was somewhat amused by the fact that his friend thought the same thing, since she had just told him, but his eyes didn’t look away from the other male on the stage. His smile was splendid, eyes shining with confidence and while looking at all the audience began with his show.
At that moment, the young detective kept looking at all the magician's movements, without trying to see through the tricks behind his number, his mind could only think of that young man who had left him perplexed and with his heart beating faster than it was normal.
A couple of minutes later, Ran asked him if he had found out the trick to the current act, interested because by that time, in the previous performances, the detective would have already explained to her what it was, but this time she only received a confused look from him in answer.
It was then that she realized the dazzled look of his friend and laughed amused, commenting in a teasing way how the young magician had managed to charm him to the point on not being able to think rationally.
He huffed in a mix of angriness and embarrassment, feeling his cheeks burn under her teasing words. He crossed his arms in front of his chest and turned his attention back towards the male on the stage, trying to see through what he was doing. His attempts were in vain because he could not figure out what was the trick behind all those actions. By the time he realized it, he was already on his last number.
He sighed in defeat and, deep down somewhat disappointed to think that this would end so soon, he decided to enjoy what was left of the brunette’s performance. That's when he squeaked astonished when his eyes clashed against indigo ones which were barely a few inches apart from his own. He must have made a very funny face because the other chuckled a bit and without saying anything held out his hand.
He looked at it without understanding causing the taller male to smirk in amusement and his eyes shown with what he could tell was a mischievous undertone on them.
-Would you please be my assistant for my last trick? –he asked in a loud and clear voice for all the spectators to hear.
The detective hesitated for a few moments, biting his lower lip with unsureness, but the way those eyes were looking at him with such expectancy, he couldn’t reject him. So, he took the offered hand in his and moments later, he was standing in the middle of the stage, being watched by about a hundred people. He put on his usual impassive face and waited to see what would happen next.
At first, he thought it would be a simple card trick, as the young magician offered him a deck of cards, but he was seriously wrong. As soon as his hand caught one of them, he was enveloped in a pink smoke and when it dissipated, he was dressed in the clothes of the queen of wands.
The audience applauded but he looked with an angry expression at the magician who smirked at him and winked coyly. Then he asked him to choose a number from 1 to 20 and a color. He didn't understand why but he did it. 4 and blue were chosen, and at that moment he noticed something in his hair. With his hand he reached for it and blushed when he saw a blue rose.
Then he heard the excited cry of the girls in the place and directed his gaze to his dress. On his chest area a rose-shaped brooch next to a blue sapphire could be glimpsed along with a matching necklace and bracelet on his left hand.
The red on his cheeks became more pronounced then and his gaze went towards the magician feeling amazed and unsure about what he should do or say now. The other’s smile widened and announced loudly the last part of his show. He asked the audience to clap four times in a row as soon as he counted to three. As soon as this was done, the detective was engulfed in smoke once more, white this time, and what happened next puzzled him completely.
The young magician was down on one knee as he held his left hand, where he could see a precious diamond ring with a sapphire in the center. That's when he realized that his outfit had changed again. His before red and black dress, from feudal times, was now a beautiful white dress with some ruffles, strapless, and his before black gloves were pure white made by lace.
He sputtered in his astonishment. His blush increased to unsuspected levels. Bride... he was wearing a wedding dress... A breathtaking one, that’s for sure, but a wedding dress nonetheless.
The magician smiled once more and after briefly kissing the hand he was holding, he got up and asked for a round of applause for the young man who had agreed to help him.
The next thing the detective was aware of was the applause of the spectators, and then he was already at the exit of the theater with his friend next to him. And of course, with his normal clothes back on.
-That was impressive, right Shinichi? –She told him excitedly as she walked down the street with her friend.
He barely managed to nod his assent since he was still pretty deep into his stupor. Luckily his blush was completely gone, but not his embarrassment. He would never have imagined that something like that would happen.
He took in a deep breath to calm his agitated heart, which kept beating wildly at the memory of the young magician's smile, look and touch. Damn! He had become interested in someone he didn't even know the name of. He growled in frustration and his friend looked at him with a soft smile and warm eyes.
-Down worry, Shin... I’m sure you'll see him again, okay? –She spoke in a low voice, trying to reassure him.
He just looked at her and smiled warmly at his friend. He was surprised that she would so easily accept the fact that he had taken an interest in another man, especially one who resembled himself in such an uncanny way, but he decided not to comment on it.
He thanked her for her silent support though, since he was somewhat nervous about that topic. It's not just that he liked someone of the same sex, but there's also the fact that the magician is the first person to make such an impression on him. He wasn't quite sure what he should do at the moment.
He decided not to think about it anymore and walked with his brown-haired friend to a restaurant near the theater. It was way past two in the afternoon and they were both hungry so they didn't resist and stopped to take a bite.
They went in and ordered what they wanted from the menu. Once they were served and while they were eating and talking pleasantly about trivialities, an advertisement on the local television caught his attention.
Sonoko's uncle, an older, wealthy and eccentric man, appeared there, challenging the thief Kaito Kid to steal a precious jewel that the man had just obtained.
The two childhood friends exchanged looks and sighed with amusement. That man would never change. However, Shinichi thought that it was funny to see how hard he tried to get the thief's attention and the stupid and crazy plans that he devised together with the police department, which never came to fruition.
Since he was most of the time surrounded by murderers and corpses, Kid’s heists were like a calm balm to his soul. He would never admit it out loud, but he quite liked the thief’s shows. He was smart and pretty creative. His riddles were in a whole other level, so he enjoyed solving them in his free time.
They continued eating and talking, now about what they thought the old man was planning, when the brunette's cell phone vibrated.
He took it out and saw that he had received a message from his friend Saguru. This was another detective who was fascinated by Doile's novels and who had met a couple of years ago, at a convention about the beloved character they both idolized. They hit it off right away and from time to time contacted each other.
He smiled when he saw the message and seeing his friend’s curious look, he showed the message to her.
“Hey, Shinichi, why don't you come over to the Kid's heist tonight?
I know it's your birthday and you could use it to clear your head,
especially after all the cases you've solved this week.
Besides, I'm fed up with the stupidities of the Inspector,
who refuses to listen to what others tell him.”
He shook his head in amusement and thought that it might be interesting to go. He had been invited a couple of months ago, but there was a triple murder case across town and he had to take over. Well... he smiled thinking that instead of just watching it over the tv, if he managed to have enough free time to do so, this time no matter what he would assist in the heist of such a famous international thief. After all, as his friend said, it was his birthday and he deserved a rest from so many murderers and deaths.
He sent a message accepting the offer and arranged to meet the young man at the hotel where the heist would take place an hour before it occurred.
The day passed, he went shopping with Ran and they ate in a café that she had wanted to try for weeks now. At eight pm, he said his farewells to her and went towards the hotel where the other detective will be waiting for him. During all his journey there, a calm smile was taking hold of his features, however in his eyes there was a spark of anticipation and excitement shining brightly. He couldn’t wait to have an encounter with the thief himself.

-Hey, Kaito! –a blonde called, approaching the young man in question.
-Mmm? –he answered while he kept putting his things in the suitcase.
-Why did you have a man help you out with that show? I thought you would use a woman... after all it was a very cute act and... –she blabbered, playing with her hair while pouting at him.
-I chose him because I wanted to. Besides, it was the first time I did that specific trick and I don't think I'll do it again. –he interrupted her complaints, voice nonchalant.
He smiled as he remembered how cute the brunette looked in those dresses and that adorable blush that had covered most of his cheeks had only made it better.
After hearing his words, she grimaced, obviously upset at the new information. It was clear that she wanted to have been his helper for that particular trick.
-Why? –she demanded to know, frowning and looking at him with angry eyes.
-That’s none of your business. –he replied, huffing at her over the top reaction.
He finished collecting his things and left the theatre, ignoring the girl's yelled complaints. He hummed, walking towards the exit with a smirk on his face before he frowned a little at remembering that he didn't know the name of the young man who had caught his eye since he saw him from the stage.
He sighed in frustration and walked in the direction where his assistant and friend of his father, Jii, was waiting for him. On the way there though, his gaze went towards a restaurant’s window and he gasped at recognizing the brown hair of the young man who had caught his eye before. He sent a quick message to Jii that he would be eating there and he could leave before entering the place.
When he finally gave his order, he looked at the brunette. He was conversing calmly with a very pretty young woman and that bothered him. They looked to be too close to be just friends and he felt a little pang in his chest. He could admit to himself that he felt a bit jealous of the girl. His brow furrowed instantly and he hissed in frustration since he wasn’t sitting close enough to be able to hear what they were talking about.
At that moment, an advertisement on television made him look at the screen and he smirked amused when he saw the old Suzuki's challenge. He already knew that he would do something like that so he had no problem preparing something for that night. He just had to wait for Jii to send the warning note, which he would do right now, surely.
He turned his gaze towards the blue-eyed male once more and saw him shaking his head in amusement next to the young woman. Fed up with not knowing what was going on, he walked over and swept past, dropping a small microphone under their table. He did it fast enough for neither of them to notice his presence.
Soon after, he returned to his table and activating the small device he began to listen to their conversation intently, pretending that he was engrossed in the phone in his hand.
-What do you think he would do this time, Shinichi? –she heard the young woman's voice ask with curiosity.
A devious smile appeared on his face after learning the other male’s name. His eyes sparkled with satisfaction and certain giddiness too.
-I don't know... that man is too stubborn for his own good. However, I’m pretty sure that none of his ideas will work, since they are too stupid. –this time he could hear a lower tone of voice and he knew it was the male who had talked now.
He couldn’t contain the amused chuckle that left his mouth at his words though since it wasn’t usual for someone to bluntly say what he had always thought. He was glad they both thought the same, at least for that specific topic.
-You’re probably right, but... –she trailed off and he looked in their direction, watching how Shinichi looked at his cell phone with a soft smile. He didn’t hesitate to show the received message to his companion and she giggled in amusement to whatever it said.
-Are you going? –she inquired, tone of voice curious.
-I think so. I wanted to go for a while now, but didn’t have the chance before now. And it had also been a while since we both met. –he hummed, agreeing to whatever he was invited to do.
-Hmm… its unusual for you to agree so easily, but I’m glad to hear it. After how much it took me to take you out of the house in your free day, I’m happy to know you won’t hole yourself up inside right away. –she commented, arms crossed in front of her chest and eyes shining with happiness.
-Yeah well.... I can still change my mind, Ran. –he pointed, rolling his eyes and smirking at her.
-Do not even think about it. You have to finish celebrating your birthday as God intended. –she threatened with hard eyes and a displeased grimace on her face.
-And what’s that way supposed to be, I wonder? –he questioned, unperturbed by the penetrating gaze of the young woman.
-I don't know, but there has to be something more fun than staying at home all day reading. –she huffed, reclining in her seat to be more comfortable.
-Mmm... considering that I spend my time surrounded by murderers and the dead, I think I deserve to be quietly reading in the solitude of my house. –he grumbled as an answer.
That caught the attention of the magician who put aside the friends' conversation to search with his phone for “detective Shinichi”. Once the screen came up, he watched in amazement at the amount of news about the young detective and all the cases he had solved.
He looked in the pair’s direction once more, feeling conflicted. He liked the brunette, he felt pretty attracted to the slightly shorter male, but he was also confused and a bit unsure because of his night job. His smile was more of a grimace at the whirlwind of emotions and thoughts inside his head. He got up, paid the bill and left the restaurant. Good thing he had been eating while he was spying on them because otherwise, he would have left the food untouched.
While he was walking, deep in thought about everything that had happened in such a short time, he pressed a button on his cell phone that would destroy the small microphone he left at the restaurant. After all, he didn’t want to leave a single trace about what he had been doing.
He let out a tired sigh before deciding to leave all thoughts of the cute detective on standby. He had a heist to focus on and after doing his best on that night’s show, then he’ll think about the brunette once more.

He got to the hotel just at the appointed time and looked around in search of his friend. He immediately found him standing right at the entrance of the building, arguing with a middle-aged man. He approached feeling quite curious about the ruckus they were causing and called his name, making him turn in his direction.
-Hey, Saguru! –he called, looking at him calmly.
The blond turned around with a frown on his face which disappear soon after he saw the brunette. A little smile showed in his face then.
-Shinichi... you’re right on time, as expected from you. –He greeted him back, more relaxed now.
-And who is this? –the older man inquired in an annoyed grumble.
-Inspector... this is the young detective I was talking about. Kudo Shinichi. –Saguru introduced him and the brown-haired male only nodded in greeting.
-Just what I need…. Another fucking brat bursting into my case. –the inspector complained with clenched teeth.
The brown-haired man only raised an eyebrow, as he had heard the man's mumbled words as he walked away from the teenagers. He looked at his friend asking for an explanation and the blond just sighed tiredly before shaking his head. Shinichi understood and said nothing about it.
Without wasting any more time, they walked and entered the luxurious building that would be the place of the heist that night. They both talked and speculated about what would happen and by the time they realized the time had come. It was 9:00 p.m. and Kid was making his presentation speech.
He smiled because that seemed like a function. An entertainment for the public. And he wanted to participate in that fun and entertaining game.
During the entire chase he did not let himself be seen by the young magician. It seemed fun to him to watch how the entire police force went after the magician, but they couldn't catch him, because he always had something planned to stop them. He saw them knocked out cold on the floor because of sleeping gas, nets that constricted their movements, sticky substances that left them stuck to the floor or the wall....
He chuckled when he saw his friend covered in pink paint angrily yelling at the magician, but without moving an inch from his place because he had also ended up glued to one of the walls of the place.
He shook his head in amusement. He definitely did not regret having attended the heist. It had been a lot more fun than he had originally imagined.
With a calm step he walked towards the stairs that led to the roof, for he knew with certainty that the magician would be there. He didn't understand how the inspector and his friend didn't already know, after all, Kid always went there after his heists. He didn't know why, but he always did.
He reached the roof and carefully opened the door so that the other would not notice his presence. However, his heart started racing when his eyes fell on the tall figure standing in front of him. There, under the moonlight, he could make out the figure of the person who, hours earlier that same day, had drawn his attention so deeply.
Without realizing it, a heavy gust of air closed the door behind him, causing it to slam loudly against the doorframe. That's when the magician turned around and the brown-haired man was able to glimpse the tiny bit of surprise on the other’s face before it was quickly replaced by his usual poker face. Apparently... the young man in white had also recognized him.
¬///¬///-K-///¬///¬///-S-///¬///¬///-K-///¬///¬///-S-///¬///¬///-K-///¬///¬///-S-///¬///¬
It was always pretty entertaining for the magician to make fun of the police. They boasted that their plans were perfect and that they would surely catch him, but his tricks were always more advanced and therefore they never managed to reach him. The fact of seeing the father of his best friend yell at him in frustration and anger when one of his traps incapacitated him, was the most satisfying thing for the magician.
He hurried up to the roof. He still couldn't believe that none of those present who called themselves his chasers, had realized that this was the place where he always went after the show. He laughed even more amused as he watched his best friend's boyfriend shout at him completely pissed off as one of his tricks turned him into a big pink statue.
He arrived without problems and did what he always did. He held up the jewel and looked at it against the moonlight. He tutted when he saw that this wasn't what he was looking for either. He was beginning to believe that he would never be able to find Pandora.
As he was going to jump to fly away, as was his custom, he heard the loud noise of the door closing. He was dumbfounded, for he was sure no one could have gotten there, not if they were covered with his special mixture that would leave them stuck to any surface available for a few hours at least.
He turned around to see who it was that managed to follow him up there and couldn't hide the look of surprise that formed on his face. Luckily, he quickly managed to control himself and turn his poker face on.
There he was, standing right in front of him, the young detective who had caught his attention hours before. He stared at the blue-eyed brunette without moving, analyzing his expression and trembled when he realized that the other was doing the same. He knew it was impossible for him to have recognized him, but a part of him wanted to believe that he did. Because, well… that would mean that the adorable teen in front of him was interested in him, at least a tiny bit. True, that fact would cause him problems, but he couldn't help but feel a hint of happiness at the thought.
-My, my.... I didn't know I had a new chaser. –he commented with his best mocking voice.
The brunette frowned and slowly walked up to him. He stopped only when he was right in front of him, just a few inches away, looking deeply into his eyes.
-That's because I'm not. I'm not interested in catching a thief. –Shinichi replied, smiling a bit at seeing the uncertainty flash on those gorgeous indigo eyes of his.
-Then why are you here, Meitantei? –Kaito questioned after humming in consideration.
His heart was beating like crazy in his chest, the breath getting caught in his throat a bit since the smile on the detective’s face was one of the cutest things he had ever witnessed in his whole life. He had to control himself from smiling like a doofus in front of the other male. He had an image to maintain after all. Even if it was taking his entire willpower not to grab those full cheeks and steal those plush pink lips of his with his own.
-Because I wanted to have a good time on such an important day as today. –Shinichi answered calmly, shrugging his shoulders while he moved away from the magician and leaned against the railing of the place, looking up at the moon.
-Interesting... and what happens today that deserves a celebration? –The magician inquired once more, but he stayed in his place, looking at the detective's back.
-Well... a birthday is something to be celebrated. Or at least that's what all of my friends kept telling me all day. –the brunette explained, turning his head to the side a bit to look at the magician with a soft smile and a certain twinkle on amused exasperation in his beautiful sapphire eyes.
-Wow... is it the detective's birthday? And how old are you if you don’t mind me asking, of course? –Kaito politely asked, approaching the detective with careful but determinate steps.
He contained his glee at knowing that tidbit of information about the cute brunette. Making sure to keep it well into his memory for the future.
-18. –Shinichi said, staring at the taller’s eyes once more.
-Mmm... well, that does deserve a celebration for sure. I hope you enjoyed the show, because I don't have a gift with me to give you. –Kaito commented with a flirty tone of voice, stopping in front of the young man, as the other had done previously.
-I'd like to make a little request. After all, I don't think the great Kaito Kid would have any problems in fulfilling a small whim of mine. –the detective told him, a shine in his eyes that the magician could not quite understand.
-I’m sorry to say that if what you’re going to ask of me is that I surrender and let the police catch me, then I am afraid to say that my answer will not be affirmative. –the magician huffed a bit, a slight bit of annoyance slipping from his tone of voice.
-It's nothing like that. It's actually something very simple. –Shinichi giggled a bit, entertained at seeing a bit of true emotion break through that amazing poker face of the taller brunette.
-Is that so? What is it then? –Kaito inquired, now looking at the detective with clear curiosity on his indigo eyes.
He blinked in shock at having his lips taken in an unexpected kiss as an answer. It took him a few seconds to assimilate that the brunette was kissing him and before he could reciprocate, he saw himself being pushed at the chest by strong hands and the next he knew, he was falling from the building.
Stunned, he saw the brunette's face who was smiling at him while he watched him fall. He frowned and unfurled his hand glider, flying with practice ease. He thought that the brown-haired man would be frustrated to see that his move hadn't gotten him the expected results, but then he saw it. A group of policemen, the few who had escaped unscathed from his tricks, had reached the roof.
The smile returned to his lips, because the brunette hadn't kissed him to distract him, but because he had wanted to do so. Chuckling a bit, he left the hotel, traveling through the sky as if it was as easy for him as breathing. He couldn’t stop thinking about the detective’s calm voice, his adorable smile, the shine on his mystical sapphire eyes and the warmth of his plush pink lips.

By the time he got back home, it was almost midnight.
After Kid left, he helped the remaining police officers to clean up the heist site and peel the agents off the walls and floors which actually took forever because whatever mix Kid had used it was a pretty good one and it wasn’t easy to dissolve.
He giggled, feeling pretty amused as he remembered the angry look on his friend's face when he was told that it would take a few days to get all that pink paint off his body. His clothes were beyond insurmountable which just pissed off the blond even more.
The heist had been really fun, as was seeing the frustration of those foolish men that had believed they would manage to catch the elusive thief with their own hands. However, the only thing he didn't particularly enjoyed was that the kiss with the magician had lasted so little.
Back when he was going to ask him to give him a single kiss as his birthday gift, because he had no intention of forcing him since he didn't know if the magician felt the same way for him or not, he heard the loud and fast footsteps of policemen approaching the roof.
That's how he ended up stealing a fleeting kiss from the thief’s lips and then pushing him towards the railing, causing him to fall off. He wasn't worried because he knew that Kid was always ready to fly away at any moment, and he didn't let him down when he saw him go away quietly and easily.
He sighed somewhat disappointed because in the end he had not found out the name of the young magician, nor if he had been interested in his person or not. He didn’t seem upset at his action, but he didn’t reciprocate either. He just stood there, blinking at him with shock and surprise.
He saw the clock in his living room and decided that he would go to sleep. It was close to midnight by then and he had a new case to attend to the next morning. In fact, he was called right after the heist was finished and asked for his presence immediately. However, inspector Megure noticed the tiredness in his voice and was considerate towards him by letting him spend the remainder of his birthday at his house.
He calmly climbed the stairs and walked to his room, thinking about the young magician clad in white. He never thought to find out that he was the same person who had brought him out on stage that same day. When he saw him, he thought that he was confusing him, but when he got closer and heard him speak, he realized that this was not the case. Kaito Kid and the magician he had fallen in love with were the same person.
He growled and cursed under his breath at all the gods above who seemed to be having a great time with him. It was just his luck than the one person that would interest him ended up being a criminal of sorts. Luckily, the magician wasn’t a serial killer, not that he knew at least. That would have been even more fucked up. He didn’t know why he did what he did, but his instinct screamed at him that the other male had a pretty good reason for it. He just needed to find all about it.
Sighing to himself, he opened the door to his room, resigning himself to never seeing the magician again, unless he had the opportunity to attend another heist, which was unlikely since it seemed that killers all around Japan didn’t want to respect the plans he had for any single day of his life. At least, they didn’t so far and he doubted that would change any time soon.
A gust of air made him come out of his thoughts and curses against half the world. He blinked confusedly and looked in the direction of the window of his room which was slightly open. He didn't remember leaving it like that, but he couldn't be 100 percent sure either. Most of his mornings were a blur since he didn’t wake up completely after he had drunk a few cups of coffee at least. So, he couldn’t swear that he had closed it that morning.
He let out another sigh and walked to close it, but it was then that a slight sweet smell got to his nose and he turned towards his bed. His eyes widened as he observed a huge bouquet of blue roses resting peacefully on top of his bed.
He approached cautiously, because he didn’t know if that was any kind of joke, a dream or, even worse, a trap. Luckily for him, nothing weird or dangerous happened so, he decided to sit on the soft mattress.
He looked at the flowers carefully, feeling a bit suspicious at their sudden appearance, but at the same time a slight and warm smile was seen on his flushed face. There was a little bit of hope blooming inside his chest at seeing the pretty flowers. A small note was among the roses and he took it with his heart pounding loudly in his chest. His breath caught in his chest at what he read.
“I know it's a little late, but I wanted to give you something for your birthday.
I hope you like them as much as I liked the kiss you gave me.
Although, I hope that next time it will last longer (;
PS: If you wonder why I'm so sure there will be a next time, it's because I'm a thief
and my goal is not only to steal your heart, but your whole being.
Atte: Kuroba Kaito.”
Shinichi couldn’t help but let out an amused giggle after reading those words. His cheeks felt so hot that he knew his pale skin got a noticeable red hue to them, but he didn’t mind it because he felt too happy to care about it.
-Kuroba... Kaito.... –he whispered to himself, seeing how those syllables taste on his tongue, which he quite liked it to be honest and laughed joyfully. – I think... I owe a thanks not only to Ran and Saguru... but also to Sonoko, because today has been the best birthday of my life. –Shinichi murmured to himself at the same moment that the clock marked midnight.
Officially, his birthday had ended, but the memories of that day, he would never forget. He was also quite excited about whatever would happen in the future. He couldn’t wait to see the outcome to all of this.
…… The End …..
