Work Text:

Dystychiphobia- the fear of hurting someone

The sun is bright as Izumi and I watch the kids play. They seem so happy and carefree, it's comforting.

A flock of turtleducks waddle side-by-side in front of me. I toss a piece of bread to the older duck, and Izumi tosses hers to the ducklings.

We watch as they feast on the small pieces before waddling towards the pond. After a while I hear a loud burst of laughter.

I look up to see our daughter, Ursa. She seems to be playing with something that isn't meant to be a toy.

I can feel my body freeze. I can't move. My eyes intensively watch as she twirls the metal cables around her small frame.

I wanna stop her. I wanna metal bend them away from her, but what if she ends up like me? I watch as Iroh laughs along with his sister.

I can feel a warm hand on my back. My eyes wander over to the person beside me. She gives me a nod of understanding before she softly calls out to Ursa.

The little girl stops and looks towards her mother. I look away guilty, feeling terrible for ruining the girl's fun.

Ursa runs clumsily as the long metal cables drags behind her. Finally coming to a stop she questions why her mother called her.

"Ursa, what did we tell you about taking mama's things without asking?" Izumi asks in a stern but gentle tone.

The girl blushes slightly, looking down at her shoes. "You told me to ask." She says quietly, lifting her head to look at Izumi.

"And did you?" Izumi questions with a raised brow. Ursa shakes her head slowly to the question.

"Give it back to mama and apologize please." The firelord concludes. The little girl timedly hands me the cables before letting out a quiet apology.

All I can give her is a small smile and a nod. Ursa backs away and runs back to her brother finding something new to play with.

Once again I feel Izumi's warm hand on my back. I looked over to her, "it's okay, look she's just fine." She tells me assuringly with a smile.

I lay my head on her shoulder clutching the long metal cables. "Do you think she's mad at me?" I ask shyly, finding my wife's hand and clutching it tightly.

"Of course not, my love." She says, rubbing my thumb soothingly.

I nod into her shoulder deciding not to say anything else.

Dystychiphobia- the fear of hurting someone.

It's a terrible feeling.
