Work Text:
A meow makes Kim Rok Soo open his eyes, he doesn't remember falling asleep so Record must be up to his annoying little magic trick again.
A second meow, hesitantly, makes him finally notice the source of the sound, the first thing he sees is a small black cat, filthy from head to toe as you'd expect in an apocalyptic world (although the world today looks nicer?), before he says anything, a flicker changes the image all of a sudden—
Oh, it's On, so he can't be Kim Rok Soo, Kim Rok Soo is on earth. A flash of a dream, a quick little meeting in the middle of a war, an agreement that made his face combine with his name again. All in all he sank deeper than he expected in his memories.
He opens his arms and On needs no words to leap into his little embrace, all previous thoughts fading as he appreciates how the evening sun illuminates the cat's fur in a way that almost looks like furry gold.
A purr comes from the cat tribesgirl at the caresses her guardian provides, the Henituse is glad she and he understand each other so well without the need for words, he doesn't think he can form any at that moment anyway, his tongue heavy against his unwilling jaw.
On is similar to him, that much he knows, probably something everyone has noticed by now, but he's glad she's not the same as him. He wouldn't know what to do if she was getting into trouble wherever she went, finding some way to get into battlefields or getting hurt. The very idea tastes sour to him.
Yes, he's very glad. That's the last thing he thinks as the remnants of his dream fade away, taking the memories of warm afternoons in a broken world, accompanied by two people very similar and very different from Cale back to the trunk they came from.
