The Sun, The Star, The Moon, and The World

Summary:

sac·ri·lege
/ˈsakrəlij/

noun

violation or misuse of what is regarded as sacred.
"putting ecclesiastical vestments to secular use was considered sacrilege"

He knew, realistically, that they were one of the lucky few sedoretu that genuinely loved each other equally, but it just wasn’t enough.

Sacrilege, that’s what he wanted.

Sacrilege, he could see it’s what his spouses wanted.

Notes:

Hello hello! Written for Multiamory March day 14. Prompt: Sedoretu.

Now, I understand that most people may not understand what a sedoretu is, so here’s a quote from the Fanlore Wiki:

Ki'O society is divided into two halves or moieties, called (for ancient religious reasons) the Morning and the Evening. You belong to your mother's moiety, and you can't have sex with anybody of your moiety.
Marriage on O is a foursome, the sedoretu — a man and a woman from the Morning moiety and a man and a woman from the Evening moiety. You're expected to have sex with both your spouses of the other moiety, and not to have sex with your spouse of your own moiety.

So each sedoretu has two expected heterosexual relationships, two expected homosexual relationships, and two forbidden heterosexual relationships.
The expected relationships within each sedoretu are:
The Morning woman and the Evening man (the "Morning marriage")
The Evening woman and the Morning man (the "Evening marriage")
The Morning woman and the Evening woman (the "Day marriage")
The Morning man and the Evening man (the "Night marriage")
The forbidden relationships are between the Morning woman and the Morning man, and between the Evening woman and the Evening man, and they aren't called anything, except sacrilege.
It's just as complicated as it sounds, but aren't most marriages?

In this case, Tsukasa and Emu would be of morning moiety, and Rui and Nene would be Evening.

SO. I’m sorry about that little infodump, I hope you read a little easier now, though!

Work Text:

The thing about love is that it’s unpredictable, yet still determined.

And yes Rui loved his spouses more than anything, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t aching for more. Just a little. Just everything.

The Morning marriage; Rui, Emu. He loved her so damn much it drove him crazy

The Evening marriage; Nene, Tsukasa. He could see just how much they cared for each other, how much love was packed into a single touch.

The Day marriage; Emu, Nene. Beautiful, golden. More loving than Rui had ever thought possible.

The Night marriage; Rui, Tsukasa. Sometimes it surprised him how he was able to live so normally when he was ready to drop to his knees every time he touched him.

But.

He knew, realistically, that they were one of the lucky few sedoretu that genuinely loved each other equally, but it just wasn’t enough.

Sacrilege, that’s what he wanted.

Sacrilege, he could see it’s what his spouses wanted.

Rui could see how Emu and Tsukasa’s hugs lingered just a little too long, how they would smile at each other with the sort of affection that was strong enough to power the world for a lifetime.

Rui saw it, because it’s the same thing he felt with Nene.

He truly, truly loved his spouses. He only…he just wanted them all.

He would never take for granted how Emu would run and jump into his arms, knowing he would drop the very universe to catch her. How Tsukasa grabbed his hands while ranting about what they would do for their show.

He would never take for granted the way Tsukasa moaned into his lips when they kissed, how it made him want to do things. How Emu would give those little gasps of hers that made Rui much more excited for a simple kiss than he should be, how they made him have to breathe a little deeper to keep things cool.

He would never take them for granted, never forget every little fidget, and scar, and freckle, and insecurity.

But was it really so bad to want that with Nene, too? For Tsukasa to want it with Emu?

They weren’t siblings so for the love of everything good and holy, why couldn’t they love who they wanted?

Rui wanted to know what it was about Nene’s kisses that left Tsukasa and Emu reduced to blushing schoolgirls. Wanted to know what she said before bed, in the comfort of the dark.

Tsukasa told him one he wanted to know what it would feel like to hold and kiss Emu like an oversized teddy bear.

Rui responded that he wished to know the same about Nene.

But there was nothing they could do.

There was no word for a marriage between an Evening and an Evening, or a Morning and a Morning. No except sacrilege.

Sacrilege, sacrilege. Fucking sacrilege.

And the worst part of it? The marriage was an amendment. The marriage was secondary.

The real ban was the sex. Which, at least in Rui’s case, wasn't an issue. Nene was asexual, after all. Later, when they had kids, they would need to adopt to make up for it, but for now it was fine.

No one ever pushed her, and Rui would either if he had the chance.

It was the sex that was banned, but the forbidden marriage that came as a result.

And as time passed, the need just grew to be…too much.

They were sitting outside one day, the four of them. Out in the field, hidden from plain sight.

“Let’s run away,” Rui suggested. “Let’s go to Hain. It’s a nice planet. It’s nearby, too. They’ll let us be together. All of us.”

It was a bold move.

If someone heard them, if someone reported them—

Well.

“I like that idea,” Nene said quietly.

“I always thought this farm was a really ugly color,” Emu added. In other words, that was a yes. Rui let out a small laugh and ruffled her hair.

“I’d like that,” Tsukasa said, leaning his head on Rui’s shoulder. “Let’s leave.”

“When should we go?” Emu asked.

“Two days,” Nene responded. “Enough time to pack our things and leave.”

Carefully, shyly, she reached for his hand from behind Tsukasa’s back, unsung him as a shield. Just a moment later, Emu took his other one. Likely noticing the movement, Tsukasa reached behind Rui and hesitantly took Emu’s. With his one free hand, Tsukasa took hold of Nene’s, and something clicked.

This was what they were always meant to have. This.

The girls’ hands in his, Tsukasa on his shoulder. This.

The three people he loved the most, clinging to him and each other like a lifeline.

In a way, they were.

How could they live without each other?

Rui squeezed Nene’s hand.

“Two days,” he said. “Two days and this is ours. I love you,”

“My Sun,” he added, looking to Emu.

“My Star,” to Tsukasa.

“And my Moon,” to Nene.

Tsukasa turned his head so his lips were pressed against Rui’s throat. “And us you, our World,” he muttered.

“Our World,” Emu repeated, squeezing his hand.

“Our World,” Nene echoed, squeezing his other one.

Rui could almost cry, the moment was unbearably soft. He was used to excited yelling from Tsukasa, a voice booming through the farm.

He was used to “Wonderhoy!” Echoing through their halls.

And he was used to sharp teasing from Nene, always delivered in a honey-sweet voice.

He was used to chaos, to discord. He was used to their chaos, and their discord. The type that slotted perfectly together, like sliding matching puzzle pieces together.

But, he supposed this softness was nice every once in a while. They were about to uproot their lives, the least they could do was sit down for a moment and enjoy each other's presence.

Hopefully, oh hopefully there would be more to come. Rui couldn’t wait.

The Sun, the Star, the Moon, and the World, all held together by one singular, uniting force. Gravity. Love.

Notes:

Woooo! I had a blast writing this, it’s so soft <3
