    Summary

The only difference between a pirate and a privateer is a single piece of paper from the King, and this single fact is something Cyno is all too aware of. After all, it is currently the only thing keeping him, and the crew of his ship, from the grasp of the hangman.

But a bad string of luck onboard his ship has left Cyno all too aware of this paper, as well as a letter from the King. He is given the ultimatum, either find the ever elusive monstrous siren that has been wrecking havoc on any Spanish (or otherwise) ship along the major trade routes, or he can find The Green Watcher, the even more elusive Indian pirate.

As he sets off on his journey across the ocean, Cyno can only come to one conclusion.

He really should have been a farmer.

    Summary

One evening, Tighnari is out alone in the night when Collei approaches him.

He didn’t hear her wake from a nightmare. But his ears perk up nonetheless, still on alert, because rarely does Collei ever seek him out in the middle of the night.

The Nilotpala lotuses aren’t blooming. It’s a shame. The pounding rain only minutes ago obscured the moonlight, and he hasn’t been able to sleep, still wired from hours of hearing nothing but the pitter patter of droplets hitting windows like drums and the crack of thunder like divine punishment.

Collei sits down beside him. “I… had a dream, Master Tighnari.”

Tighnari hums in acknowledgement. Her voice is soft. Quiet. He can’t help but appreciate it.

“...I was wondering if you’d like to hear about it.”

Impossibly, his lips twitch in the ghost of a smile. “I would.”

It’s the first time Collei talks to him through the night instead of the other way around.

    He doesn’t mind.

OR: Tighnari finds a world in the young girl with a smile as bright as the flowers in the rainforest and heart too big for her body.

And then, he loses it all.

    Summary

“Did I know you?” Tighnari blurts out, before they can let go and be on their separate ways.

Nilou pauses in her motion of retracting her hand. She tilts her head. “What do you mean, Tighnari?”

“...I don’t know.” Tighnari breathes out heavily through his nose. “I keep getting the feeling that I know you, that I’ve seen you somewhere, but I can’t place my finger on it.”

Then, a thought occurs to him. “Nilou, have you ever danced in the forest?”

    ~

Cyno regards him for a moment longer, then lets out a breath that can perhaps only be described as fond. “Such an irrational statement, for someone who studies in the nation of wisdom.”

“I know.” The Amurta student shifts, surprising even himself. “I’ve been irrational for a while, I think.”

    “Really?”

    “Really.”

OR: Tighnari grows up as a child of the forest in more ways than one. And then, he enters the city, exchanging memories of impossible spirits and illusory gardens for wisdom and knowledge.

    It's not a fair trade.

OR OR: A story about growing up.

    Summary

Touya was like a crow. A crow with clipped wings, wanting to fly away.

If that bird- Touya, needed help, to have someone to look after him, Kanade would gladly play that role. Even if she herself felt like a bird trapped in a cage, wanting to escape this wretched life.

Maybe Touya couldn't let her out, but she'd at least have company until she met her untimely end. And to Kanade, that was enough for her.
