Work Text:
Izuku isn't feeling particularly fortunate today. It started off okay, other than the headache, but by the time he had dragged himself out of bed, ten minutes later than usual, he was feeling all stomach-knotted and cold. And shivery, actually.
His Dad, of course, notices the moment that Izuku drags himself, fully dressed and hair half-brushed, into the living area.
"You feeling okay, lil' one?" He's already putting down the lunch he was partway through packing, coming over to half-crouch in front of Izuku, eyebrows scrunched, his concern written in every line of his face and flash of his eyes.
"Mm."
"That's a no, then," he huffs, fond,
"You don't need to be up and about today, love."
"But-"
"Izuku, lil' one, you're better off looking after yourself, or letting me look after you, than pushing yourself too far. Then you're only worse off than you started."
Izuku would really, really like to argue with that, but his head is pounding like one of his Dad's dance songs but bad, and he feels ever so slightly like he might be about to throw up. Lying down for a while sounds far better than having to go to classes.
Apparently his non-answer is enough for his Dad to decide, because he nods, hair sweeping around his shoulders in a golden veil, just as pretty as when Izuku first saw it in person years ago. He's tangling loose fingers in it before he can even really think about it. It makes Hizashi smile.
"We're gonna take a day off, love, so I want you to go get changed into something comfy. Maybe take a shower if you want. Is there anything you fancy eating?"
"...Rice?"
"I'll make rice with cheese then." His Dad knows him so well.
Soon enough, Izuku is curled up on the sofa, his head in his Dad's lap, a gentle hand running through his curls. He's eaten a small bowl of rice with some broccoli and melted cheese, enough to have settled his stomach a little, and the closed curtains are helping his headache. Not as much as the careful head massage after they first sat down did, but still. It's appreciated.
His hero is humming, almost subvocal and very sweet, surely aware that Izuku is now too sleepy to pay attention to the story he was reading quietly for him.
Maybe today actually has been pretty lucky.
