James doesn't know why he's so nervous. He really shouldn't be since it isn't like they don't live together and love each other already. This is just another step in the right direction.
Yet, here he is, sitting across from the love of his life and practically shaking from nervousness. What if Sirius wasn't ready for this? What if he didn't enjoy the prospect of being a Potter? What if this scared him away?
"Jay, are you alright?"
James looks at him and wipes his sweaty palms on his trousers, "Oh, of course."
"Then why are you so jittery?"
"Well, I - I am just nervous," James admits. "I have a rather special and present for you."
"You know I'd do anything for you," Sirius assured him.
"Including become a Potter?" James questions pulling the gift box out of his pocket, kneeling on one knee, and opening it.
Inside is a beautiful gold locket with the engraving James and Sirius Potter, 1976 to forever.
It's his attempt at an engagement gift.
Sirius looks down at the locket, and then back at James, "Are you asking what I think you're asking?"
James smiles. "Will you marry me?"
"Yes, of course I will!" Sirius says, pulling him to his feet and giving him a kiss so passionate that there are wolf whistles in the background.
They break apart and Sirius hands him the gold locket. "Put it on me?"
James gleefully helps his fiancée put the locket it on and as Sirius resumes his seat at the table, he asks, "What do you think?"
"I think it fits perfectly."
"Just like you and me."
"Exactly."
