“Will you teach me to fight, Hráve?”
Hravanáre studies the child. Þornandil is too young to hold a blade, they think. But this is Beleriand, not Valinor – here all must learn to fight, or die.
Þornandil’s mother was of the King’s personal guard, Hravanáre knows, and they know it is the child’s greatest desire to follow in her footsteps.
(Fëanáro is dead, and Nelyafinwë captured, but Kanafinwë… Kanafinwë has taken a liking to the child. Þornandil will serve their regent, one day, and Hravanáre will do their best to teach them everything they need to know.)
“Very well,” they say.
