This is a tale of total crack for sure!

Part of Tales of the Bad Batch universe of things / The Crack Tales series

Notes:

And now for something completely different!
With the ye ole body switcheroo, ancient gadgets involved, don’t touch that dial!, plot devices, absolute crack, really poor attempts of humour, totally inaccurate science… you name it, it’s all in here.
But this is science fiction. Pure fantasy, so why not?!

Chapter 1: Hiding in plain sight?

Chapter Text

‘Like a scared rabbit he hides in the dark hole or fell into it? Either way, we are not supposed to see him?’

The Bad Batch had gotten wind of Crosshair leaving the Empire.

And so, hacking into the HoloNet galaxy of things, Tech had managed to obtain the last known location of the sniper. It was only a matter of mapping the possible routes to find their missing Batch mate.

Simple as that right?

Having spent some time in space the team finally managed to hone in on Crosshair’s signal. As even if he wasn’t consciously sending it out for all to hear most likely wanting to hide, it was still there for the Batchers to hear.

Yeah, those inbuilt clone frequencies really were a Force sent plot device for sure!

But, that was neither here nor there. The Batch had found Crosshair and that was it.

The location, an ancient outpost on a remote planet somewhere outside the Outer Rim. Not really part of the latest maps even. Something which should not have been there but was just the same. As if someone had wanted to wipe it out of existence. Or then it appearing on purpose?

Alas that was not why the Batch was there for. No, they were here to finally get Crosshair back. They could only hope he would be willing to go with them this time around. As the last time they had met had not gone so well. Oh well, ancient history, pun intended.

“I am getting a clear signal. Just as before.” Tech was doing his scanning thing.

“Spread out and start looking for him.” Hunter ordered the others.

They did as ordered. starting to search through what looked like some very old base time had long since forgotten. But, after some roaming about they came up empty handed just the same.

“Nothing?”

“Nope, not a peep.”

“He is here.”

“Hiding?”

“Looks like it.”

“It seems, that Crosshair does not want to be found.”

“Why? Doesn’t he know it’s us?”

“Well, I can only speculate. It could be something to do with his chip?”

“Not the chip again!”

“Yeah I thought that was already settled.”

“Besides he said it was removed.”

“Maybe he lied?”

“Whatever! It’s not the chip!”

“Just Cross acting up?”

“Maybe. He does that some times."

“Yeah? Well. Imma gonna find ‘im.”

“Good luck with that!”

It took some moments, but Wrecker was adamant to keep his promise. And soon enough, he found the huddled up scaredy cat of a Crosshair hiding. Practically in plain sight.

“Cross! It’s us. You can come out now!”

“Why would I?”

Yeah, surely a dead giveaway he was there. Responding to the hoots and hollers of his Batch! If you want to hide, the shut the hell up!

“Because we are here for you. We want you to come home with us.”

“Why?”

Hunter sighed and rolled his eyes.

“Because it’s high time you did.”

“No.”

“Wot!?”

“No.”

“Wrecker, you take the left, Echo, Tech circle around.” Hunter ordered. “Omega, you’re with me.”

The five of them moved closer and closer to where the sniper was holding his stance, sitting on top of some construct. An obelisk of sorts which had been erected in the middle of a stony platform. The only remains of the base it seemed still intact.

Just as the five Batchers entered the stony area, moving in closer to Crosshair, they could hear a low humming sound starting which grew louder the closer they got to the centre. Before any of them knew what was happening, a flashes of electrical current started to form around the stone construct.

“That doesn’t sound good at all!”

“Ya think!?”

“We need to get off this platform. Right now!”

But Hunter’s warning came too late.

Before any of them managed to get out, the electricity around them was crackling with full force electrocuting the lot. All of them falling to the ground unconscious.
