Work Text:

Yamada-Aizawa Hizashi was having a very bad day.

Check that, he had had a previous bad night that seeped all the way into the current day.

Last night he was supposed to have a big time European rock band as his special guest on "Put Your Hands Up!" That came to very abrupt bust when a sudden tsunami level rainstorm descended on the city.

If that hadn't been trouble enough, the studio's ceiling had sprung a leak in several places including right on top of Hizashi's precious radio equipment. Technical errors went into overdrive and his whole show had to be replaced by a back up system of pre-recorded playlists and little radio bumps he voiced over. He had been at the studio until almost five in the morning trying to help mop and dry out the place.

That resulted in Hizashi not having enough time to even head home to get cleaned up. He went outside only to find out that his front tire of their car had went flat during the night. He had to contact a tow company but due to weather, they wouldn't be able to get it for the next three days or so.

He had ran full speed to UA and as luck would have it, the second surge of torrential rain soaked him to the bone. When he finally came drenched in the teacher's office, he found a note from his husband letting him know he had been called away for a partial day mission but he noticed Hizashi had left his neck speaker at home.

Which forced the blonde to teach his English classes feeling completely bare without the heavy piece wrapped around his throat. His hair had lost all of it's hairspray and he felt more like a drenched cat than a teacher.

Somehow Hizashi had trudged through the day but by the time he gathered up what little he could safely carry, he was in full self misery mode. Even Nemuri's bright goodbye couldn't shake him out of it.

The walk home was freezing despite it being late Spring. When the lanky man finally got to his apartment door, he realized his keycard was back at the studio. He was ready to scream when a small blessing came that their landlord happened to be checking the floors for water damage and was able to let Hizashi into the apartment.

Now he stood in the living room, sniffling from the cold and the complete urge to burst into tears. His green swirl eyes caught another note sitting on the kitchenette bar.

"Hizashi, I'm sorry I will probably miss you. I only had a chance to run home and write this before I got called out on Patrol. I won't be home until very early morning. Shouta."

That may have been the straw that broke the camel's back. Hizashi knew there was nothing Shouta nor he could often do about their schedules but he just wanted to lay in bed with his husband and cuddle.

Instead he drug himself with tears falling out of his eyes into a hot shower. His back and shoulders hurt. But most of all, he just felt very lonely.

When he ventured finally out of the bathroom, he spotted Shouta and his two cats, Ying and Yang laying happily together on the couch. Hizashi paused to give them both scratches behind their ears. Both purred happily at their owner before snuggling up together.

"I wish Shouta was here so I could do that too." Hizashi whispered.

Miserably, he made his way into their empty bedroom and plopped down on the bed. He grabbed his tank top and his lounge pants, yanking them on. The bed seemed to extend farther than Hizashi had ever recalled. Usually the two slept so close together they used to joke they should have never gotten a king size bed. But now it really did look too big and Hizashi laid down, curling himself up into a little ball holding Shouta's pillow against his chest.

He closed his eyes and drifted off into an uneasy sleep.

*****

The quiet sounds of movement awoke the blonde the next morning. Hizashi stared blearily at the clock's red numbers.

"DAMMIT, IT'S 8 A.M.!" he mentally screamed.

The Voice Hero threw off the blanket he had buried under some time during the night, Shouta's pillow falling to the floor. He barely managed to get his slippers pulled on before he darted toward the door.

And stopped dead in his tracks.

The golden haired man blinked once, then twice before rubbing his tired eyes.

The Erasure Hero was standing in the kitchenette humming a quiet tune while Ying and Yang were playing with a puff ball nearby. The smell of breakfast cooking wafted up into Hizashi's nose and his stomach rumbled it's approval.

The slightly shorter man paused and then glanced over his shoulder. Raven hair was pulled back into a tight ponytail and Shouta was wearing one of his black tank tops with a pair of his low slung gray running pants. He only wore those when the duo decided to lay low and spend the day inside.

"S-s-shouta?" Hizashi stuttered out.

"Good morning." came the simple response. "Why don't you go and sit down on the couch. The food is almost done."

Hizashi stared for a moment longer before finally getting his legs to move. He took a seat on the piece of furniture and rubbed his temples for a few moments. He looked back up as Shouta set down a tray on their low coffee table.

Two cups of the blonde's favorite lavendar chamomile tea. There was a blueberry bagel with cream cheese for him and just a piece of buttered toast for Shouta arranged on plates that generally were used only when they had special company. In the middle was a small yellow daisy.

"Shou?"

The dark eyed man picked up the plate with the bagel and handed it to Hizashi. The taller leaned back on the couch unable to think of doing much else. He took a bite and an instant feeling of relief settled into him. He hadn't realized how little he had eaten in almost a day and a half.

Shouta took a bite of his toast before picking up the mugs and offering Hizashi one. The emerald eyed man let the gentle floral infusion drift up into his nostrils and he could feel the tension seem to seep out his shoulders and neck. The more it did, the further he sunk into the cushions behind him.

The two men ate in comfortable silence only being interrupted by their cats playfully pouncing each other before finding their cat tree and getting ready for a long nap.

"Kitten?" Hizashi finally spoke around the last bite of his bagel. "Did I miss something?"

"Hmm?"

"I mean, is there a holiday or something I don't know about? Shouldn't we be heading to the school? I mean, I know we're already late but..."

"We have today and tomorrow off, Sunshine." Shouta interrupted gently. "No patrols for either of us either. And you don't have to worry about the radio station, they called when you were still asleep and told me they wouldn't be able to be live on-air for another two maybe three days."

".....oh." Hizashi murmured unsure what else to say.

"I... I, uh, heard you had a pretty bad night with the station during the storm and then our car got a flat?"

"Yeah, it did." Hizashi nodded. "Then I got caught in the rain and found your note about my speaker still being at home. Then even after Nemuri tried to cheer me up, I ended up getting locked out of our apartment. I was glad the landlord was on our floor. Then I came in and you were already on patrol and I was so tired... And... And..."

Hizashi had to set down his mug as he started to cry. Shouta set his down and opened up his blonde husband quickly buried himself in the other man's strong embrace.

"I'm sorry... I'm sorry... I shouldn't... I shouldn't even be... crying..." Hizashi sobbed.

"You cry all you want, Sunshine. You're stressed and overwhelmed. When I noticed you had left your speaker, which you virtually have never forgotten, I took that as a sign that maybe we both needed to take a little time off. So today and tomorrow we're just going to spend with each other, okay?"

"....okay...." Hizashi answered quietly as Shouta wiped under his long lashed eyes.

"I thought maybe we could take a nap together until lunchtime. I placed an order to that Dim Sum restaurant around the corner you love so much. I even got those funny ones that are shaped like little bunnies."

That comment made the other man giggle a little bit.

"And Egg Flower Soup?"

"And Egg Flower Soup for you. Spicy Hot and Sour for me."

Hizashi wiped a little more at his eyes. He felt lots better already just knowing that Shouta remembered such minor things, like his blueberry bagel or that he loved those little bunny dim sum.

"And since it's supposed to rain later today, I thought we could make some popcorn, have a couple beers and watch some of those weird American Horror movies you like. You know, the ones with the bad scripts and even worse effects?"

"B-Raters?"

"Yes, those are the ones. You always make them much more amusing with your commentary."

"And after that?" Hizashi asked, his voice hopeful.

"We're going to take a nice long bath, I'm going to brush your hair and paint your nails if you'd like."

Hizashi nodded, Shouta was very studious and the blonde's nails always looked so beautiful because of it.

"Then after your nails are dried, I'm thinking some very slow and very thorough love making will follow?"

Hizashi's lips split into a toothy grin that matched Shouta's equally broad smirk. The green eyed man couldn't resist kissing his handsome husband. After only a few moments, Hizashi was being pulled onto Shouta's lap by his strong arms. It always made the other feel giddy knowing the man could literally lift him as if he weighed nothing.

"Or..." Shouta stood and Hizashi let out a playful yelp as he was carried in bridal style. "We could start with the love making now, nap later, and then wash and repeat."

"You are insaitable. I love you."

"I love you too. And I hope you know that."

Hizashi tucked his head underneath Shouta's chin as the man walked them to their bathroom.

Yes, he had had a terrible time previous. But as he was laid on the soft mattress of their now "just right" sized bed, Hizashi could only marvel at his husband.

The man that people thought was aloof and unpleasant was anything but.

He was thoughtful, caring, devout and more loving than the blonde could have ever dreamed of. And though most were never privy to seeing that side of Shouta, Hizashi got to see it all the time.

And he was truly grateful for all those small, little things.

THE END!
