Summary
“You remember our word?” Quaritch asks him from what feels like a thousand feet away.
“Yeah,” Jake hears himself answer. He remembers.
“You gonna use it?” the other man taunts him. “Am I gonna take you far enough that you gotta use it?” That snaps him back, and he breaks his gaze from Quaritch’s trim, well-muscled figure to meet his blazing eyes.
“Not a fucking chance, old man.”
Quaritch laughs, loud and mean and delicious, and the sound rings out across the black water and lapping flames.
“That’s my boy.”
