Work Text:

“Then I fell over the banister and landed on some of the glass display cases” Sam sighed

It was another Friday, which meant that Sam was back in Woodsboro to visit her father in prison. It was a routine that she would probably never be able to shake. Tara wanted to come again, but then Chad asked her to go on a date. Which left Tara in a mild crisis since she didn’t know what to do, Sam just told her to go and she’d bring her to see Billy next week. She didn’t know when it happened, but Tara had really taken a liking to Billy, anyways. Sometimes she came to tell him about the latest Ghostface killer that was after her, sometimes just to tell him something exciting that happened, or just to complain about normal life stuff.

It was nice having an adult that was willing to listen to her and wouldn’t tell her she was being dramatic. Much like her mother had done, she’d done that before she even found out Billy was her father so it wasn’t like she had someone to listen to her until recently.

Billy gave her a place that she could breathe, most people asked why she didn’t talk to her family. Tara, Mindy, and Chad all had their own problems however, and while she was sure they’d understand and listen, she didn’t want to stress them out as well.

That was just the way Sam was and had always had been, she was trying to work on it but it was hard. Opening yourself up to someone and talking about something upsetting you without getting brushed off or laughed at. Sam was convinced she had gotten slightly better at opening up with people, first with Billy, then Gale, and now the rest of her family. She still didn’t like stressing them out with her problems though.

Sam sighed as she realized she was getting off topic and allowed her brain to wander a bit. So she focused herself and looked back over at Billy.

Today it was the latest Ghostface killer that went after her, honestly she was less scared at this point and just annoyed. Tara felt the same way, she could tell from the way she reacted when they got swarmed by news reporters.

Even though Gale had promised once again that she wouldn’t write a book she did. This time though she didn’t make Sam or Tara out to be crazy lunatics. Hell, she even called them to ask for more accurate details since she was in the hospital and missed quite a bit.

It was kind of nice, that book helped turn Sam’s reputation around a little bit. At least no one was throwing cherry coke-a-cola at her anymore. That was nice, truly she got tired of that quickly.

She didn’t notice that Billy hadn’t said anything until that moment, he was unnaturally quiet and his eyes were darting around wildly. Sam realized that he wasn’t looking at random things though, he was looking at her, his eyes darting to look over her.

“Uh…Billy?” Sam called “You good?”

Billy sighed and ran is hands over his face, his eyes holding a type of nervous energy in them. He ended the motion by resting his face on his right hand.

”…You fell over a banister and landed on glass?” Billy asked, his voice tight

Then it clicked for Sam, she finally got it. She cursed herself for being so slow and not realizing what was bothering Billy sooner.

“Oh jeez” Sam yelped “No No, I’m fine, only a few minor cuts, I still don’t know how but only a few minor injuries.”

It didn’t seem to calm Billy down at all, his eyes were still wild with concern. Concern for her, and that was another discussion for a different time but her now she needed to focus on Billy.

She didn’t know what came over her and she’d later deny the event ever happened. Sam leaned over the table as gave him a kiss on the cheek. Almost laughing from the way that his beard tickled her lips

She knew if the guards saw their jaws would’ve dropped thinking that Billy Loomis and Samantha Carpenter had some weird incest thing going on. Which they didn’t. A kiss on the cheek is used to greet, say goodbye, and comfort someone, it doesn’t have to be romantic.

Billy froze at the gesture and blinked a little at Sam. Gently she took his hands in hers and held them tight. Squeezing them every now and then to keep him with her.

”I’m okay, I promise” Sam told him

Billy nodded and squeezed Sam’s hands back, a silent promise to one another. He let go slowly and leaned back into the stupid folding chairs the guards set up.

The conversation drifted back to normal after that, Sam squeezing one of his hands once in a while. Every now and then he seemed to space out and lose himself in his thoughts. Hence her needing to squeeze his hands to bring him back to reality every once in a while.

By the end of the visit Billy seemed much calmer and finally seemed to believe that Sam was okay. She could understand why he was so worried. He didn’t have much of a family, his mother left him, his father was an abusive bastard, and well…he didn’t really have friends. He had Stu sure, but that was it, and he didn’t seem like someone that was good at being serious long enough to listen and comfort someone.

More like the kind of guy you would go to when you were in need of a good laugh. Or maybe you needed a goofy guy to take your mind off something.

Either way, Sam make sure that Billy was fine before she took her leave. Their hour visit was up after all and they’d have to wait another week to see each other. That didn’t matter though, everything would be as close to perfect as it could be when they saw each other again.
