Work Text:
Elrond knew something was wrong when the rhododendron bloomed, their pink blossoms bright against the snow.
“Celebrían,” he whispered. “Celebrían, my love, what happened? Where are you?”
She should have returned from Lothlorien by now, and worry had been growing in Elrond’s chest with every passing day. Now he reached out through their bond and felt… nothing.
“Our Lady is in danger,” the rhododendron sang. “Our Lady, far away in the mountains… Rescue her, Lord!”
“Our Lady is gone,” the rhododendron sang. “Our Lady is gone, never to return…”
Elrond wept, his tears watering the soil of his wife’s garden.
