Chapter Text
Sebastian’s first impression of the farmer was– well, interesting. To say that he had heard about her was an understatement. She was all the buzz in Pelican Town. It’s not every day you get a new resident after all. Plus, most of the families here had lived here their whole life, and everyone knows everyone else. It was no wonder that strangers are widely gossiped about.
Everyone had good things to say about her, though. Talking about how cute she was as she scrambled around to introduce herself to everyone. Pierre was especially looking forward to having someone buy seeds from him again, especially when he learned that Morris made her uncomfortable.
Sebastian didn’t run into her. Their paths simply didn’t cross, as he was in his room all day. It wasn’t until he was about to head to the saloon on a Friday night that they finally met.
He just reached the top of the stairs when the door to his house was opened, and a muddy sopping-wet farmer dragged herself in. Robin was immediately fussing over her, sending him to go fetch a towel and a warm drink. Grumbling under his breath, he obliged, but only because he loved his mom.
He came back to see her shuddering on one of the chairs. Despite all this, she quietly asked Robin if she could build a silo for her. Clicking her tongue, Robin agreed.
“Of course, dear. I hate to say this, considering you look like you’ve been through a lot, but do you happen to have the materials and money on hand? I’m afraid I can’t start until I have those.” The farmer nodded and hopped off the chair to rummage through her wet sack on the floor. She produced all the materials needed for the silo, which looked surprisingly dry, and high quality. Robin shook her head.
“Full of surprises, aren’t we? I’ll get started on it first thing tomorrow.” Sebastian took this as his cue to step into the room with a towel and a mug of steaming tea. He handed the towel to the farmer who took it with a quiet “thanks.”
“Sorry, we didn’t really have any other hot drinks. I hope you’re okay with tea.” The farmer nodded and graciously accepted the mug with two hands. She let the towel sit around her shoulders, and he noticed she couldn’t stop shivering. Her nose was red from the cold, and her cheeks were flushed.
“You just moved in right?” She nodded again, which he was starting to notice to be her preferred response, and took a sip of tea.
“Cool. But man, out of all the places you could live, you chose Pelican Town?” She smiled lightly at him.
“I know. But something called to me here. I don’t know. Plus, grandpa said a lot of good things about this place. I guess I wanted to experience it for myself.” Sebastian rubbed his chin, not expecting her to answer seriously.
“Cool. I’ll see you around.” He waved at Robin, and the farmer, and head out into the rain. He idly noted she had a pleasant demeanor, and wondered if the whole dragging herself muddy and sopping wet into his house thing was gonna become a recurrence.
