Summary
Once Jean’s footfalls disappeared down the hall, Eren turned on her. “Don’t think I forgot about that look on your face at dinner.” He leaned forward, catching her face in the wide span of his palm. “This face,” he says, his thumb and pointer finger digging into the meat of her cheeks. “The one where I can tell you’re thinking about something filthy. You can’t hide from me.” Like always, buried within his flirtation was a threat, a reminder that there was some ancient power that he seemed to hold over her – that both of them did, the way men had always been able to lord themselves over girls.
She held his gaze because she knew that her pride was all that she had. Besides, when she looked into his eyes, she was reminded that she wasn’t the only one so affected, that his pupils were blown out, his mouth parted, his gaze drifting toward her lips. Giving her the confidence to tell him the truth, shameful as it was. “Sometimes, I like to think about you and Jean, together. Doing things without me.”
